The hella all clears are brand new out of the box and after yesterday detailing they had moisture inside.... what gives? Do i have to tighten the nuts on the inside of the trunk more to make a tighter seal ?

This is a photoshop made by chrisvr6 over at the mk3 forum of what the finished product is supposed to be. Except I'm not planning on shaving the door handles. All of this of course if it does not sell.

Sucks you're selling. The car looks good, but sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do.

Hopefully you'll keep it though man!

Got some new fender emblems for it. I had ordered them from TMTUNING about a month ago....

    They finally got here.

Also installed some RSD hood lifts but don't have pictures for that.
Hope to install new tie rods and control arms tomorrow. Top is going to be fixed on friday, and suspension is going on saturday....Let's hope I can stick to this schedule for once!

All of this if it does not sell!

If you decide to sell, let me get that interior.

I give hugs when I buy stuff too. That help any?

Those are actually 17. I am not running coilovers though... Those are bilstein shocks and H&R springs.

Well guys..... It was fun while it lasted but I sold the cabby today.

Although I got a really good amount for it I sorta have mixed feelings.

Time to pay some needed attention to my audi now.

I will be constantly lurking around. Thanks for everything

There is a certain art to fixing these old VW's without having more into it than it's worth.... that being said, posts like this are the most interesting I think, and the satisfaction of having brought back a car from this far over the hill has to add to the enjoyment of the finished product.

Thanks for posting, I love following the progress on posts like this... nice work, too. Grab another wreck and post again!

Well, First of all high to all.. it's been a while but I have been lurking around since I left.

I might be getting back into the cabrio...let game.

Should I continue this thread ? Or should I make a new one.

I am going to go look at a cabriolet today that seems to be in great shape. Since I have never had a cabrioLET before, anything I should pay special attention to?

    Sellers Pics

    Welcome back in the game!

Right side of that red one looks fishy to me but you seem to know your way around body work, just don't overpay for a blender...

    Good luck!

As far as body work I am not that afraid of it. As long as it is structurally sound as far as floor pans, rochers go.

Wondering why some pics I have seen of cabriolets have 2 headlights instead of 4 and what would I have to do to mount a gti fron on it (what do I need)

Also I have seen some front fenders without the sidemarkers, Is it becuase people"shave" them or are they different type of fender altogether?

This is the front I would like... (all of this is hypothetical since I still don't have the car...)

Grabbed this pic from a thread on here so thanks to the user...

I believe you, but that red cab you posted looks like it's in overall good condition & the seller will want to see that reflected in the sales price but the right side looks to me like it had an accident & apart from the door which they probably got from scrab everything else looks like bondo-artwork.

The front fenders w/o markers usually are Euro fenders since they probably are the cheapest fenders to come by anyways, the rears you have to shave yourself, if you know bodywaork it shouldn't be a big deal.
The 4 light front was an option in Europe, here in NA all cabbies had 2 lights from factory till I believe '88 or whenever the clipper kit came out, then they all had factory 4, grills are readily available new & used, with emblem & w/o, early style many small bars & late/Mk2 style fewer larger bars, 2 & 4 lights, no chrome, little chrome & more chrome.

I will go to look at the car on Saturday just spoke to the seller.

He also just gave me, I think the really bad, news that the car is an automatic.

I don't know this platform very well.... But I know auto trans suck in mk3,4...to infinity and beyond.

How well do these auto trans perform?

I picked up a 91 Cabriolet auto about 6 weeks ago, and honestly the trans is fine. The auto is only 3 speed, which I figured would be lousy, but it shifts smooth and I've got no complaints.

    To be fair, I don't do a ton of driving in it over 65 or 70, but it's a cabriolet w/ a slow 8V.

Well.... It is oficial, agreed with the seller (which is a friend of mine) and on friday I will be going to pick up my new cabriolet!

Can't wait to start ripping at it.

I know for a fact that this fellow has kept the car very well. But I would like to, disregarding any previous maintenance, give the car a complete tune up and overhaul since this car is going to be my daily driver and I need it as reliable as can be.

As far as mechanics what should I do?
Timing Belt? Spark Plugs? Obvously oil and filter?

He also says that while steering it makes a little noise and he thinks it is the power steering pump that is on its last days......Oh and the air compressor is broken.

Where can I get good, adequately priced parts?

Anyway I know someone will shime in and steer me in the right direction.

Also I really like the three piece grill and single round setup.

Where can I get a three piece grill? Would it fit? Will I have to change my headlights?

Also would this one work? Would I have to change my headlights? I actually like this one better and is CHEAP!

Well It is official. Went and picked up my cabby today.

As soon as I got home I gave her a little bath to see in more detail what I'm up against.

    First off.

There's definately something wrong with the windows (powered) as when I push the button they go down when ever they feel like it. and when I am going to close them they get stuck like 3/4 of the way and won't go up unless I open the door or push the window to the outside. Might have something to do with bad alignment or something.

Second, once I finished washing her I got inside the car to move it and when I closed the door I heard water "sloshing" around in it.

Curious note not to much water went inside while washing it.

And speaking about curiosity... Anyone know what wheel this is?

Also I think it has been in minor front end collision as the front bumper kind of slants in the passenger side.

And pic of the best side of her.... I think it is pretty good.

Well, what do you want me to say, congrats? I'd like to, but I'm not sure how happy you're gona get with it, that whole front end doesn't line up at all, I thonk that car has gotten bumped pretty good & that could be the reason for the windows not opening/lining up properly.

As for the wheels, see if under the hubcaps or on the inside of the spokes there is a # starting with "KBA" basically the German DOT, any part except lighting you want to change on your car for an aftermarket part needs to have an approval by the KBA & has the approval # on it somewhere, if you google the # you should find the approval document stating the manufacturer & part description somewhere on the web, probably on the manufacturers website.

Well... Interesting.... The cabby caught fire today!!!!!

I heard a little "chick, chick" sound coming from the lighter and a millisecond after flames were coming out of the lighter socket and outermoste left air vent.

Freaked out. got out of the car. got in. grabbed a bottle of water. threw it at the fire. popped the hood. unplugged battery. smoked a cigarette. towed it home.

Eeee... I don't een know where to start. I am assuming I will have to take the dash out to see the damage and replace it....

Anyone could gimme a hand or a hint as to where to start and what to look for ?

By the way I was not using the lighter to light my cigarette. It didnt even have the element plugged in. Hell that car does not have a lighter element. just the socket.
