    I've refraind from opening this thread for fear of getting an earworm but judging from the last couple of pages that won't be a problem, I don't regnize most of these songs anyway.

    i am going to post the line of my current earworm that is most likely to be going through my head the past few days. yes It's a wierd one.

    "Suddenly ahead of me, across the countryside
    A gleaming alloy aircar shoots towards me two lanes wide..."

    mostly it's just the guitar that won't stop.
    Next edit by onebadbug; tomorrow at 10:13 AM.

    What you get isn't always what you see.

    So, since she appeared on Fresh Air with Terry Gross a short while back, I cannot get Carole King songs out of my head -- especially these two:

    What a phenomenal songwriter!

    There are about 4-5 catchy tunes in Les Mis that appear out of nowhere in my ears and won't leave for days.

    This is the Apocalyptica one I would put as "earworm" worthy (orig. Rammstein; here with Nina Hagen):

    Not to dominate the thread - but I have a couple more (I am rather haunted by earworms...not my fault!). Here's a classic - try getting this one out of your ear!

    Finally, of course Roger Hodgson (Supertramp) is a master of catchy tunes in fine arrangements. I won't even mention It's Raining Again, Dreamer, or Breakfast in America (oops - I just did ) - here are two others that frequently torment my ears:

    Yeah, about 80% of the responses in this thread I don't really get - they are no earworms to me, never could be, and don't satisfy my definition of one --- even though my taste in music is very eclectic.

    To me, an earworm truly is one if it:
    • has a catchy, yet rather challenging (so as to be slightly unusual and interesting) tune/melody (think Eleanor Rigby);
    • is not too repetitive, and balances more complicated layers with a somewhat simpler refrain/chorus -- many great songs have a double or very long chorus (see, e.g.: Adele);
    • has a memorable, significant beat to it (see, e.g., Tom's Diner or any Carole King song);
    • has great instrumental additions (if it is not a Capella) that are often emphasized during the breathing pauses or between the verses (see Supertramp);
    • if great, the more important instrumentals play back in my mind same as the lead melody (notice that in the second example I posted above, Carole King is doing the same thing: she is singing part of the guitar sound).
    OK then, before I post the other three Roger Hodgson earworms I mentioned above, here are two Adele songs haunting my ears, at times:

    And here a 40+ year anniversary of (the unfortunate death of) a great singer still haunting my ears:

    One of our clients are Red Lobster chains in the state. So anytime one of my coworkers talk about Red Lobster, I start singing the song. They have learned to speak of Red Lobster in secret and away from me.

    I'm confused as to why ( being that I'm a hetro non Mexican) that this song is stuck in my head. Probably because some of my slightly older friends were talking about the day the Charming Man came to town.
