what should be the operating oil pressure for a 2.0 aba.

the reason i ask is, I installed my new oil pressure gauge and duing a cold start up it reads 60 psi. and when revved it shoots up to 100+ (im pretty sure this is not correct)

after running for appx 10-15 minutes, the oil pressure gradually drops to 35-40 at idle, and then shoots up to 80+ when revved.

dont know if it makes a difference, but my oil pressure gauge is tapped into one of the existing ports by the oil filter.

what numbers should i actually be seeing? and what could be the cause of this?

Service manual FTFW. If you had one, you'd know

VW spec is 2.0 bar at 2000RPM, 80*C.

    Max 7.0 bar above 2000RPM

How does that not help? It's direct from the factory service manual.

If you convert bar to psi, what you posted is about right. I guess you don't speak Metric?

    2.0 bar = 29.00755 psi
    7.0 bar = 101.5264 psi
    80*c = 176*F
