ya the honcho is a good starter scaler but toss a set of 1.9 pit bull rock beasts under her and you will swear the flat irons are slicks![]()

Yeah the kit comes with no electrics. I'm using a Novak crawler brushless system. I forget what my gearing is to be honest, but it rocks. Super torquey, but it's got decent wheel speed.

I'm looking at getting into RC cars with a Rtr kit (in Italy the dingo costs around 350€ and the honcho 450€!), but since the prices are this steep I might have to get a Traxxas slash or another short course car.
It seems to me that on crawler RC cars, a brushless motor is not as important as on short course car. I won't be doing any racing, but I like the idea of modding and upgrading along with changing bodies. This just seems limited on short course cars...hmmm
What kind of speeds can crawler vehicles reach?

if you get a slash do yourself a favor and get the vxl version. i had 1 at one time with the vxl brushless set up in it and with a 2s 5000mah lipo at half throttle i was able to keep up with a honda civic doin 25but then again that dont say much for hondas. i then upgraded to a castle creations sidewinder with a 5700kv motor and it would wheelie with any trigger input after 1/2 throttle and was a handful on a 3s lipo weeeeeeeeeeeeee

ye, I would like to start with a brushless to avoid future problems...just means I'll have to put aside more money then what I initially planned...and wait until my gf goes to the US so I don't pay an extra 150$ buying it here in Italy
edit: it seems for 40$ more getting the 4wd is worth it

I just finished my Axial Dingo kit a few hours ago. Novak Timbuk 2 ESC and Novak Ballistic 18.5 turn Brushless motor. Torque torque torque torque torque, plenty of wheelspeed - slow jogging pace, donuts on command, small wheelies ... yet it's so SMOOTH and easy to modulate on rocks and trails

Wish I knew. Haven't had any damn snow! At least not since I bought the skis. And the way it looks, I doubt if we get any at all.
Crazy fun drifting the Rally though. Almost through my first set of tires already. Also, ran two 2c's in series.....big mistake. Fried the ESC and motor within the first 20 minutes out of the box. Replaced and having a blast with it now. Can't wait to get it into my new basement in a few weeks......800sq ft of unfinished wide open cement floor!

I used to have an RC10 about 25 years ago...damn I miss that car and the times had racing/playing around![]()

I'm amazed that even today with newer gear the car is still competitive with newer cars. I have two complete runners and three in progress

well the RC10 was the car that revolutionized the sceene. its what all off road buggies and trucks are based from today. there really hasn't been much change to the layout in 20 plus years.

Does anyone know where I can find scale ratchet straps? I want to strap my truck down in my hatch to take it places...

Just got a Traxxas Rustler VXL. Holy Sh!tthis thing is fast strait out of the box. So far the only damage has been from my pitbull chomping the body. Been thinking about going lipo adn the higher gear. It does about 40 right now.
And my buddy jumping his slash!

Just built an SC-10, moving up from a slash. I like it a ton better.

hey sean! not sure if you remember me...it's nes from the days of the peninsula meets.
awesome RCs you have there. i'm just getting into the hobby myself. i purchased a slash VXL less than a month ago and i'm having a blast with it. ...and an axial honcho is waiting for me at home to get set up (wanted the trail finder 2 but couldn't justify the cost). let me know when you do scaling/crawling, i might just want to tag along and learn a bit. it's another expensive hobby but it's still cheaper than modifying 1:1 vehicles.![]()
#101
Yeah man i remember you! How you been? RC's are definitely less expensive than 1:1, but just as fun. There's a great spot to run your Slash in Foster City, just south of the Foster City sign on the east side of the city. It's a bunch of bmx jumps called Shells. Just watch out for the puddles- fried my receiver yesterday when I let my buddy test drive lol.

I start a better higher paying job this month. I will be saving for upgrades for the tundra.
