Anyone else see the preview during the season premier of Southland? Looks like it might be decent.

This is on now and so far I think it's pretty decent. Acting is decent so far. Not too many plot lines so far, but it's been a decent amount of story development and action... There are robot aliens and also organic aliens so far. I've added it to my shows to watch, and i'm hoping to does well because I really like sci-fi!

I wanted to like it from the previews but after watching it, I give it a solid meh.
The overall plot line reminded me of the Battlestar Galactica reboot. A group of ragtag survivors consisting of civilians and military types trying to survive. Heck, that leader of the bandits reminded me of Gaius Baltar.

Watched about half of the pilot... Not going to bother finishing the rest. What is the point of using your dog to lure out the aliens, if you don't want anything to happen to the dog? And why put yourself into danger to save the dog that you put into danger in the first place?!?
Terrible, cliched writing, that's why.

I watched it and thought it was a great example of a half arsed effort all around.

watched the pilot.. aliens looked like claymation. It's a poor man's Walking Dead.

I'm giving it a shot since there's not much show on right now. Plus Moon Bloodgood + Sarah Carter are definite plus.![]()

The show is ok and hopefully gets better. I'll stay tuned for now for the same reasons as FiveAinOne, blondes don't do much for but but Sarah Carter does for some reason.

I like the premise but it feels like "Walkingstar Glacti-Dead".
I'll give it more time.
There was a lot crammed in the first episode to set up the story for a broad audience.
Nerd hat on:
-In BSG, the humans could "hide" in space due to its vastness
-In TWD, the survivors had "dumb" pursuers so they could use distance & stealth
On this show, the technologically off-the-charts aliens can't detect/see the survivors walking up a hill en masse just miles away (and within line of sight) from the mothership?
I think it'd be more compelling if things were more desperate, but then there are production costs and a broad audience to reach.

I didn't get any sense of Walking Dead or Galactica.. my first thought was Terminator Salvation -series for tv. The robots, the destroyed city landscape, torn/old clothing, Moon Bloodgood is even playing the same rebel part.

Tonight's episode was pretty good... looks like there's some connection between the skitters and the kid's brace thing. Guess we'll find out next week! This was pretty enjoyable with True Blood and Topgear UK tonight.

I will say this episode was much better than the first. The actors did not seem so "wooden".
#16
This episode was better, and I think the actors did pretty well considering 95% of sci-fi television shows are complete flops and have terrible acting.
I'm not seeing much similarity between BSG (Or Caprica), Walking Dead, or most of the other Sci-Fi television shows... The main thing they have in common is they are sci-fi, survival based, or set in post-apocalyptic settings.

The last episode was all Lost. Sawyer, Jack, Sayid...all present.

Did they cancel any existing shows to being us this, and if so what ones?

Is it just me, or is this show going a bit down hill? Like the father of the first kid that they brought back, acting way too impulsive and pulling those "leeches" right off his back. Then whole old man talking to the doctor, then doctor getting forced emotional at the picture wall. There's bits and pieces everywhere that's throwing me off.
#23
definitely turning into more drama than Sci-Fi![]()

I figured this would definitely be a one hit wonder but they announced it has been picked up for a second season.

I just finished watching Battle LA and realized that Falling Skies could be a continuation of Battle LA.
And yeah, I didn't enjoyed the latest episode. Anyways, from what I've seen so far, a Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle would come in handy. Since those mech thingies can't detect humans hiding about, I'm sure a sniper could take one out from a distance with a couple of rounds.

IMO the first two episodes (the premier) was really corny and they blew it on a lot of fronts like Colin Cunningham trying to channel some typo of Jon Wayne persona, the black dudes trying to hard at Hollywood OG stereotype BS, Will Patton's character being wooden, etc.
The third episode was WAY better than the first. I think it was the best episode so far.
After that they have been better than the premier, but nothing special.

My issue w/ this show is that it never ends on a cliffhanger. The endings are too soft.
#29
I think the "soft" endings w/contained stories that begin/end are likely being set up to get "drive by" viewers to jump into the series.

Watched the pilot and the next 3 episodes. Not sure if I'll watch any more.
#33
I really dislike the flow/pacing of this show. There's no build up to a climax or conclusion. It's just a bunch of random dialogues. So disappoint.
#35
yup, last episode was pretty good.. still watching.. on DVR
