girls are awesome, although I'm kind of hoping for a son the next time 'round. 14 years old, holy crap man. Must've been scared to death, or maybe too young to feel the fear. I was 27 when my girl came along, and still felt woefully underprepared. Kudos for keeping it together at such a young age, a lot of guys don't, or won't.

Thats a typo, it was suppose to read before my 16th. Me and my wife got an apartment not to long after my 1st was born. My father knew a guy that had a 2 br and he rented to us on the DL till we were old enough to sign a lease. I was scared but i man'd up and worked full time and went to school full time till i graduated. I went to work for the dealer and went to school after HS. Having a family motivated me so much.

It's life changing.. you're a better man for it, I'd bet. I watched my brother do the whole deadbeat dad routine and it's pretty sad. Nothing but shame and regret down that road.

I hate how people are so surprised when I tell them that my kid's MOTHER is the deadbeat.

    .
It was the opposite for me. My 2 older brothers were my roll models. The brother above me works very hard, 12+ hrs a day, 6 days a week to take care of his family. I wanted to be just like that. My oldest brother is an Ansetheologist (SP?) and i watched how he chased his dream even if it took him to work 36 hr shifts at the hospital to put himself through school. I remember helping him move to Buffalo cause he was going to BSU for his Doctrine and he saved his money for a few years just so he didn't have to work while going to school. 2 1/2 yrs he lived of what he had in the bank. He pushed me to chase my dream no matter what. They also edged me into being a VW tech because everybody need someone to work on their dubs as my entire family own/drives VW & Audi's including my brothers. Even though i'm 36 and the bro' above me is 42 (44 for the oldest) i still look up to them.

The most important person in my life is my wife. She has stuck with me through thick & thin. She gives me the freedom to spend on my hobbies. It's hard for me to get her into the cars. All she want is her car to look good and go fast....hence why she got the twin turbo Allroad...lol. Her getting cancer 3 yrs ago and beating it just makes me push to be the best at what i do. I'm trying to set a foundation for my kids to take over. After achieving most of the goals i've set in life, that is the most important one for me.

it is a life changing situation. It made me realize how simple life can be. And at the same time, that voice inside of me telling me to be on top of my game to support them... it's awesome

I'm not old, not a father and definitely not married so i don't meet the standards of this particular thread, but I will say that some of you ****ers are pretty good role models. I know that the day I get there, I'll still have a mk2, and i'll still probably post on here from time to time. Glad to see some good fathers out there.

I am 36, one daughter and a girlfriend with two boys. Low paying job and child support. The reason why I own a mk2 is he ease of working on them, parts are cheap and the our kids like the car. They want me to make is faster and cooler. They are not embrassed to be driven around in the car too.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. Am I too old to be messing around with this damn mkII Gti? What do the neighbors think? Married, three kids, and a mortgage but I will always have MkIIs.

Almost a true story, the tire iron was in the car, but it was Tonya and Jeff. Rolled up after seeing the ad in the paper (back before Craigslist!). Had no idea who she was. She gave me a story about driving from Portland to Idaho for competitions and getting too many tickets and Jeff was making her sell the car for something else.

It was about 1990 give or take a little, car had about 84K IRRC and paid about $3500 for it. I didn't figure out who she was until about a week or two later when I saw her on the front of the sports section about winning some competition.

It wasn't until the Nancy thing I thought up the tire iron. Still makes for a good story and a laugh or two either way!

If it wasn't for the crazy people, who would we laugh at or make us feel a little more normal?

    damn, we're not that old

it's interesting to see lots of 30 somethings here. My theory is that when these cars first came out (1985-1992), we were either slightly too young, starting to formulate our love for cars, just got our driver's license, or couldn't afford a new car..... but then some years down the line, the Mk2 still tugs at our heart strings, we're a little older, wiser, money in our pockets, these cars are cheaper..... bam, they land in our garage. At least that's what happened in my case.

WELL said, I waited 14 years for my mk2, and love every part of that car although I had many other cars that were probably "better" but there is no other car like it!!!

In my 30s, Married, Mortgage, Kids, and a Rusty old MK2 GTI that I love driving everyday. Wife drives an 04 Passat 4motion wagon. The Jeep is the project now getting a V8. Then the GTI goes back under the knife to get finished. Wife doesn't mind the the beeter GTI so much, but does make me take a cell phone when I drive it, Just in Case....
