Well I guess I should post in here, I'm 34, been selling VW parts for a living for the last 10 years now.. I've owned a little of everything, air, water, even a dreaded emmkay 4 for a little while. I keep coming back to MkII's, just nothin else feels the same. My GTI has been an ongoing project for about the last 4 years now, and I still don't drive itOh well, that's what the Scirocco is for, it's the daily

Don't worry my MK2 gti has been a project(vr swap) and I haven't even started yet since last year, and I have all the parts just sitting in the garage and the donor car sitting next to the gti(they both run and are drivable). Family and children( inpretticular) slow everything down a bit!!!

I haven't posted in this forum for a while... I had a Mk2 GTI for quite some time, even after the 2nd child. I'm sad to say that I gave in to more practicality and got a 4-door - it was getting to be a pain to get them into the back seat with only 2 doors.
BUT... at least my "new", more "practical" car is a VW.

Used to be my '87 GTI 16V:
I would like to get another Mk2 someday. It probably won't happen until after I get a shop built, which is probably ~5 years off still. I wanna try to save up for it rather than taking out a home equity loan.![]()

Hmmm I wonder if Honda-Tech has near this many 'mature' owners on the EF Forum?
I'd bet not.Something about VW's you just can't shake them. They are like a part of your family. Fun, practical, stylish, economical, easy to maintain, customizable (especially our beloved Lego MKII)
Honestly when It's time for a new car, I'll be replacing my MKII with another MKII. After over 10 years of ownership I'm pretty convinced it's one of the greatest cars ever made. I'd rather spend 10K on a totally mint MKII GTi then by a used MK4.

Thanks!
The Maxima does have the CVT. I agonized a bit, then did a lot of research prior to getting it. It's my wife's car and she didn't want a manual (tragic, I know). I really would have liked to get her an Infiniti G35, but I just couldn't stomach the payment... it's steep enough on the Maxima. We test-drove a lot of cars to replace her '98 Passat (1.8T sludge... we got it with 75k miles...) and she had a smile on her face every time we came back to the Maxima. I was pleasantly surprised with the handling when we took it to the coast a couple weeks after getting it. For such a large FWD car, I was impressed with how neutral it felt in the corners.
