Perhaps making new users wait a month before creating a thread to ensure they searched and are somewhat familiar with the site layout and rules could be an easier option.

The mustang forum i belong to does this. I believe you only wait a week, but during that long week of waiting to post you have time to get familiar with the forum.

I'm fairly new to this site, and there are a few things I've noticed. Seems to me like everyone around here just wants to have some fun. A gif here, some sarcasm there. Most of the time, its all in good fun. Even from day 1, I can honestly say I've never been flamed, my posts don't get bashed, and the few threads I have made, weren't gif'd to the point of being locked. Why is this? Because I used my brain before I posted. I'm all for having fun, I'm all for poking fun at people without being overly hurtful. Sometimes it gets out of hand, but I can see where the vets are coming from. Seeing the same thread 5 times a day, its not even a matter of searching, its just a matter of going "hmm, maybe I should see whats on page 2." Seems to me that some people just need to sit back, take a deep breath, and see what all this forum has to offer.

Kudo's to trying to make this forum a better place. It sucks having someone PM you because they don't feel like dealing with some of the people in here. Even though i haven't owned a mk3 in years, i still come here to see if any of the new guys need help.

The biggest problem with this forum and most here on Vortex is this "Bad ass" internet persona. People feel the need to be someone they're not because it makes them look cool (in their eye's) when it's actually hurting the forum. Some will also say "It's just the internet" when they thenselves know it's more then that. I've been a member for almost 11 yrs and all of that has been in the mk2 forum and that forum is my home. And just like any other home, you have to get along with the people in it. You also take pride because you've been in the house longer then most.

You guys should sit back and look at the forum. It takes Tdogg and other mods to watch you guys like baby's. Whats crazy is that there are some long time mk3 vet's here that aren't doing anything. You don't need to be a mod to post a thread like this. I'm sure Tdogg wouldn't lock it. I've posted threads like this in the mk2 forum just to remind the guys (both old & new) of the rules, written & unwritten. I guess if you act like baby's, you get treated like one.

And please be open minded. Not everyone is into "Stance" and uber rare wheels. Some are actually into good ol' fashion horsepower. ..

You're already on top of things. there's no need. I've never used that button BTW. I rather kindly ask the person not to do it weather in a PM or the post. I think the older reg's have a duty to make their forum a better place. You've been trying to make this a better place long before you became Mod or else they wouldn't have chosen you. Great thought and consideration goes into awarding the Bag. It is not random.
It's slung at only the hardened, repeat offenders, and is intended to do as you are now doing.

i've moderated on other forums before but nothing this large so forgive ignorance on this..

if we report posts will that jeopardize the entire thread or im guessing you guys can just yank problem posts(the stance thread is a good example of this right now) 290-300 page thread that would suck to have locked because people are pms'ing that there is snow on the ground and they can't drive their junk


what is the whole 'infraction' thing? three strikes and you're out? of just the mk3 forum or vortex in general? I don't plan on abusing this but would be good to get it out there to cover the people that travis and the other moderators have talked to via pm or just so that its clear cut..telling me that im going to get an 'infraction' doesn't really tell me what that is


this place has turned around substantially in the past couple weeks. You guys are busting your asses to encourage positivity towards the n00bs and keeping the drama/bs to a minimum. Please keep up the good work and continue with the way you have this rolling. These cars are 20 years old yes but we are all still driving them for a reason

I've been working on re-doing the MKIII DIY. I need to revive my Microsoft Werd so I can complete it. Not that you have to totally delete the old one, but yah. Complete with lists of parts websites (maintenance and aftermarket).

Every infraction has points that "go away" (usually in a day) but the infraction itself (and reason) is kept forever with that username. Everything can be moved to new usernames as well.

It resolves the old system where it was never a "get your points back" deal. I think this system works better for everyone.

As for the DIY/FAQ: the format is excellent and is in line with all other forums. It's the links that are broken and pics that original posters have stopped hosting that are the problem.
Some links within the FAQ never made the transition and need some attention.

No FAQ created by a non moderator can be stickied. So if you guys want to help, great. Help fix broken links, compile them, then get them to the mods and we will edit the FAQ.

I will not comment on the exact number, but too many infractions and a user is banned. Its also worth noting, however, that bans are not automated and need to be authorized by an administrator. Moderators cannot ban or restrict users - so there is some oversight there.

We also rarely ban users without a warning. If you're close to a ban, you'll know about it.

Usually option A will be better than option B if option B is "flaming". Flaming is against the rules and will get you banned if you do it continually. So yes, report "instead of flaming".

I agree that the stance thread was locked due to a few people constantly derailing the thread. Had i read this thread before the stance thread was locked, i would have reported some to save one of the best threads in this part of the forums. Unfortunately, i suppose that was the last straw for you guys so i understand the lock. Just an unfortunate situation where a few people ruined things to try and "be tough".

I completely understand the zero tolerance plan and giving out infractions to those who like to flame and what not. Maybe even ban a few of them for being extreme a**holes. I guess zero tolerance doesn't come into play on the stance thread. Instead of taking down BS posts and giving infractions it got locked. Thanks mk3 mod team.
