Thread: If Steve McQueen was alive today, what would he drive?

Steve McQueen loved cars and that is pretty obvious, as he had many many rare and exotic cars, like an 1956 Jaguar XKSS, a long time love with a 1958 Porsche 356A, and 1976 911 Turbo, a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, and even a few bikes! So this had me thinking, if he was alive and well today with cars becoming more advanced, lighter, faster, even cooler, I wonder, what would make him get up and say, "Wow, I've got have that. Now with that in mind TCL, what do you think Cool ol' McQueen would drive today? get those brains aworkn' and good luck!

      1956 Jaguar XKSS

      1958 Porsche 356A

      1976 Porsche 911 Turbo

      1963 Ferrari 250GT Lusso

Well, if he was alive today, he'd be an old man. If he was still able to drive, I could see him rolling in something big, soft, fast, and sleek. That car would probably be a Merc CL63

      Or possible an aston.

      Came here to post this.

Now I think you're probably right about the Mercedes or Aston.

He would be pretty old, and probably pretty careful with his money. I am thinking Lexus LS hybrid.

Cooler is subjective, but i think older cars are cooler. And todays more advanced cars are def. not lighter.

      Worst suggestion, ever.

You people saying that McQueen would be too old drive anything other than a barge, suck. Paul Newman was turning laps almost until his death at 83. He would be a good model to speculate on for SM.

      http://www.speedtv.com/forums/viewthread/308781/

As the Coolest Guy Ever, McQueen wouldn't have just one car. He'd have a fleet. One to match every mood, and I can almost guarantee you that a Lexus hybrid would not be among them.

I think that his stable would look something like this:

      Heritage Edition, specifically

      Just to name a few...

He probably would have bought Newman's old Escort just to prove a point.

No current automobile is cool enough, even for an octogenarian Steve McQueen. He'd still be driving this:

and women would still be throwing their panties at him as he drove by.

There's a big difference between Paul Newman and Steve McQueen though.

Newman was clean cut and generally well received 'til his last days.

McQueen came in all flashy, was an awesome actor and racing driver... And then he turned into a womanizing, alcoholic, drug abusing dick. He then found out he had cancer and turned to God, then died at age 50 after an operation to remove the tumors in his neck.

He was an awesome actor and racecar driver and for those things I admire him, I have a couple of his movies (Bulitt, Le Mans) and some model cars. If he hadn't found out that he had cancer he'd still be a complete anti-social drug abusing ******* he'd become before he passed.

      *shrug*

I read the rumors of his drug use/abuse, but there are some things to consider; he'd lost some good friends under tragic circumstances in the late 60s, including but not limited to Sharon Tate in the Manson Murders. I'm not excusing a turn to drugs and booze, but it might explain some of the paranoia he developed, especially since he was also an alleged target.

I think that it's myopic to assume how his life would have turned out if he hadn't died of cancer. And I don't know if I'd call him a womanizing anti-social dick. I think that's too harsh, but whatever floats your boat, I guess.

Anyway, I think that your criticism of my comparison is misplaced. I used PN as model merely because they were contemporaries with a similar love of racing. My comments were specifically in response to those who assume that because of his age, SM would be content to drive a bloated luxo-barge.

I wasn't making a comparison to their personal lives.
