Thread: BFI - Newsouth Tiguan Boost Gauge/Vent Pod *Exclusive*

I just uninstalled your guage and change it for a Omori 45mm using the same +12, switched and negative points I used with your gauge and sneder, and guess what??? The Omori gauge works perfectly!. Besides, it's smaller, cheaper, matches the cluster nicely and you can install it on the right vent next to the radio for better viewing without any kind of modification required (compared to the NSP gauge which you have to do a lot of triming to get it in there; ask me how i know ).

For all other tiguan owners I would recommend just getting the vent pod alone and purchasing the Omori Gauge or any other 45mm gauge.

Please post a link to the gauge you used.

If there is something wrong with the gauge, we would be happy to take a look at it and refund you if defective. I was never trying to say you installed it wrong, just wanted to make sure that everything was wired and grounded correctly, as the gauges cycle only when they are hooked to power then removed from power and so on.

Unfortunately the TT/A3 vent is different, but there is a solution for it as well:

    I am looking at this.

Would someone who has it installed post a picture of it from the drivers view?

I am concerned about the angle it is sitting and if it will affect the view.

Also, anyone have this installed in an '09 with the blue gauge backlight on the dash? A picture would be great of that also.

OK, So no pictures from anyone.

Does anyone have the instruction sheet in electronic copy they could send me? I would like to see what I am getting into. I have not worked in the guts of my Tig yet.

The sweep across the the gauge is the servo motor checking itself for any discrepancies (BIT or Built In Test). This is not testing the sending unit. Try pulling the gauge out and pull off the side cover on the dash and check your wiring and if you have a multimeter, start the car and check to see if the sending unit is putting out voltage. Most likely a bad ground or bad crimps at your splices. Good luck!
I too installed the gauge, and I believe it is wired correctly (at least power and ground), since the gauge lights up when I turn on the lights. However, the needle has never moved. Could it be that my sender wires (yellow and purple) have an open circuit? 2011 Tiguan S.

i noticed that earlier in the thread you said the gauge shouldnt sweep every time the car is turned on. well mine does. but unlike the other guys not working mine reads boost every time. do you think there is still a problem?

    jcspad:

The gauge lighting and the sender (which sends signal to move the gauge) are two different circuits. As you suspect the problem is likely with the sender and not the gauge itself - the gauge wont move because it is getting no signal, though the gauge itself is getting power and working fine.

    96mk3gti91:

It sounds like you have the sender wired to a switched power source - thats why it is cycling every time you turn the car on. If you wire the sender to a constant source then it will not cycle. Technically there is nothing wrong with either way..

I'd love to see a detailed installation with pictures also (2012 Tiguan SEL), especially the removal of the existing vent hardware and where the penetration points from the engine compartment to the dashboard.

Sure, it would be "pricey" if they were selling massive quantities of them, but I'm sure the setup (non-recurring) charges were substantial.

If you do a Google search like I did, you can the trials and tribulations of other enthusiasts that have installed a similar gauge in their ventpod- bring your file, X-Acto knife, snippers, etc. and don't cut too much off.... all depends on your skill set and available time.

Just got this kit from ECS Tuning. I'm assuming it's the same kit, or at least the same gauge. I'll take some photos of where a GOOD ground can be found and how to route the wiring. Kit looks pretty good though!

Has anyone installed this on a 2013 S model? I really like the looks of this product and how clean the install looks. Nice factory look and still has vent functions!

It's the same install as any other model.

You can order a similar (same?) set up from ECS or NewSouth directly. The only thing I would recommend is adding an extra ground. I'll take a photo of my ground points tomorrow for you.

There are really two decent spots available and I recommend using BOTH to get the best possible ground (I had an issue using just the top one). Both of these spots are inside the little dummy door on the driver side of the dash panel. You will need to open this door to run the wiring from the gauge to the sender and the fuse box anyway.

Spot A: You can use the supplied Eyelet crimp connector and existing bolt but the ground is spotty due to the fact that even though your eyelet will be snug against a grounded metal part, the bolt actually threads into a speednut on a plastic panel.

Spot B: This is the best single ground option, but you will need to get an additional nut in order for it to work. You can also get away without using an additional nut, but you have to be very careful about holding the eyelet between the bracket and existing nut when tightening it down.

Spot A+B: This is best overall grounding option. You run the black (ground) wire from the gauge, the sender, and an additional ground wire (you can use the excess from the Sender) to one eyelet and run that additional ground wire to an additional eyelet. Use the three wire eyelet in spot A and the single additional ground eyelet in spot B.
