This is a typical day in Tokyo where I was fortunate enough to have my camera on me!

Losing the convenience of a garage was a condition of moving here, but I work with what I have. Our car is parked in a quasi-vending machine, so I can’t work on it there.

    Note turntable at garage entrance.

So the next best option is to park on a quiet bridge in front of our apartment and have at it. Today I endured the harassment of pigeons as I performed a tire rotation.

I then decided to shakedown the car as I ran some errands downtown. Here are some poorly photographed shots of what you will see in downtown Tokyo on a lazy Sunday.

F40 LM(?) taken after leaving the grocery store. It sounded like it had straight-cut gears. Sorry for the crap picture, I caught it at the last minute.

    Exactly four minutes later:

The Conti GTC’s are not uncommon, but the British Racing Green color was particularly eye-catching. I think I snapped this as I was shifting from 1st to 2nd and steering with my knees.

Stopped for a quick pic from the middle of the road in front of….

…the greatest 24 hour sushi joint in the world. You always leave because you have run out of money, not because you have had your fill.

Headed back towards home, I run across a freshly washed Maybach 62.

And then this little gem. 1 of 60 ever made. It’s a Crown GT-Z aka supercharged, 5-speed taxi.

Shakedown and grocery run complete, I arrive home:

That fella fishing in the second picture didn’t seem to be having any luck. If he is fishing for keeps, he is a braver man than I.

    There is a saying:
“An oyster from Tokyo bay won’t kill you….it’ll take at least two.“

    Hope you enjoy!

Also does this song play every time you get your car out of those parking garages?

As much as the movie overall is cheesy. I love the scene where they take the car out of the parking.

for having cool cars! For parking/living in a place I really wish to live!

Thanks for the pics! Post more!

What I noticed right away is that your car is smaller then the USA scion-XA? Which is a tiny ass car in my opinion but the fact that the parking garage is make specifically for tiny cars only? I noted the side rails inside the doors that hold the car in place? Do those things curb the rim or is it rubber material of some sort?

Anyway I can't wait to visit tokyo one day. Imma rent a tiny ass car like yours and blast this music in the background while I drive around like a typical american tourist.

Thanks for the heads up Mr. Obvious. But must we google every tid bit of information before we post? ... ok fine

scion xA = 154.1 inches or 3914 mm.
scion iQ = 117.5 inches or 2985 mm.

Let me whip out that calculator.... Yes you're correct IQ < xA. I'm glad we cleared this up.

(I live in the USA where we dont have the iQ so yes it's the first I've heard of it)

No, you're a TCLer. Of course you're going to like the obscure car that isn't available in the US more than a road-legal supercar that is amongst the greatest cars of all time.

The face of the f40 just looks so mellow to me. It's awesome. I want one. NOW. It's definitely in my top 5 list of supercars.

    Are you mocking me?

I wouldn't be able to drive the F40 at its limit anyway. I'd die the first time I went full throttle.

Also it's hideous with the lights up.

Not unless you stayed at WOT for a few seconds. Turbo lag out the ass in those things.

You call me Mr. Obvious because you did'nt know about a car and compared it to a car that had nothing to do with it? Sad that you don't know something that by your own words is..........OBVIOUS.

True. In GT5 it's like a NA Mk2 Diesel then VTEC kicks in and the space time continuum rips open.

This is really fascinating... and I understanding that a few of this type of parking facility are installed in the United States as well. I've heard there are a few in New York City.

    But how does it work?

You pull in, the turntable faces you towards the "slot"? You then get some sort of receipt from the "vending machine"? How does the car get pulled into the slot - is there something that slides out to pull the car in? You get out of the car before it gets pulled into the slot?

Thanks - and tell us more!

If you go back to the invention of urban parking garages in the 1920s, the "automobile vending machine" concept came before the modern drive-up garage. Drive-up garages were a later innovation chosen for their convenience and because America ended up growing around the scale of the automobile from then on.

Tire rotation on a public bridge is ballsier than my old habits of working on cars in parking lots. Bravo.

maybe its just me, but the best sushi place should be one that lets you leave with a full stomach and a semi full wallet, not an empty stomach & wallet

east of Japan would be... the middle of the ocean?

Tokyo is an international city, you can eat anything you want there. They have world class Italian, French, etc. restaurants.

But avoiding Japanese food because you assume it's nothing but raw squirming octopus or something is doing yourself a disservice. Try some katsu curry, hit up a ramen shop, hell get a beef bowl at yoshinoya.

I could eat ramen on a daily basis Don't forget other dishes like sukyaki (a hearty hotpot dish usually with beef, tofu, veggies, noodles etc.), tempura, goza(dumplings) etc.

Heck, you don't have to do the seafood thing at sushi places. Just ask for futomaki. It's basically sushi without the fish. It's usually various pickles and omelet. The only exotic thing about it is the seaweed.

BTW, are the places you parked your iQ legal parking spots? I figure parking in Tokyo is like Manhattan or worse.

Ok, Maybe I should rephrase myself.

On the quick, on a regular daily basis, stoping for quick bite, will I find anything besides fish? I dont like fish and I plan on not liking it for a while sooooo.......

I'm pretty sure japan has "world class" international food. Just like any 5 stars Hotel in the world will have food from around the world. What I'm asking is without going to a "exclusive" place, can I get a quick bite? Hamburger? Pizza? Spagethi? etc etc etc.

Also, By Eastern I mean Eastern WORLD. Not east of Japan, sheez....
