Hey guys. After suffering through a 97 a4, an 88 vw fox and an 86 jetta, I finally have a decent b5. Drove 660 miles through the Rockies to get this. I'm so glad I played it safe and paid to have it trailered back. Theres no way it would have made it over 4 summit passes the way it is.

    The bad
    -Massive coolant leak
    -Abs module is fried
    -Airbag light is on
    -Tear in drivers seat
    -Windshield is busted
    -Needs detailed really bad
    -Tiptronic..

    The Good
    -Mint Cactus green avant body
    -1.8t
    -99.5? Lots of facelift stuff
    -Paid $800!

an 87 suburban scottsdale pulled it over all this

    Ride height?

Looked into it and my leak seems to be coming from a coolant flange on the back side of the block. It's an aeb motor, common part to fail? Looks like I just have to get a few things out of the way to remove it.

After a good hour or so of struggling to get it out, I'm pretty sure the flange on the back isn't even leaking

From the looks of it..it was this little o-ring. hahaha

    the fix

Replaced all the o-rings in the head coolant flange, filled it up with coolant, put some air in the tires lol, and IT LIVES!! I forgot how much fun quattro is in the snow. Knee deep snow doesn't have isht on me.

Just clear cornered the headlights, tossed on my europlate, and ghetto fixed my torn up seat.

I'll probably have to fix my abs module and airbag light to pass emissions/state inspections. Timing belt up after that. Nonsport suspension makes it sit so high. Coilovers probably won't happen until spring sigh

It'd be great if someone in the Colorado area had a full terracotta avant to part out. In my dreams I guess.

I think I'm going to suede everything from the windows up, and probably my torn armrest too. Anyone have a suggestion for good quality/decent priced suede?? Not really sure what type of stretch I want for it either. Avant headliner is gonna be exspensive. That thing is huge!

    That^ to..

    This!

Nothing big. My only complaint is that my facelift lock core wouldn't swap into the preface lid so I don't have a key to it, oh well. The tint needs to go. Might have to do a rear wiper delete along with the other little projects I have going on.

I stopped by a body shop next to my work and they hooked me up.. re-bent the hinge and alligned it. I put on the the new trunk a few hours later and I'm having a hard time getting it all to line up right. Not sure what the deal is.

I picked up an extra set of hinges with the new lid and discovered you just have to drop the headliner to unbolt the hinges to remove them.

Anyone get a good technique down for shaving the exhaust cutout?

Yeah it's my valence for sure. It snagged part of the trailer unloading the car. I need to buy a heat gun.

    Photobucket

It threw up in my front yard today.

Got my timing belt kit from FcpGroton for like $165 shipped and did it with thee bare minimum tools. I ended up pedaling my bike to the autoparts store 3 times because I didn't have some things. I've never changed a belt on a car, or even taken a bumper off for that matter. Got it done between 10-5. That includes cleaning things up and multiple breaks.
$1100? Yeah, suck a dick dealership.

Went out and drove for a half hour no problem..and then a I got a non flashing cel. Probably forgot to plug something back in. Not too concerned about it since I already have an airbag, abs, and brake light on hahaha

Yeah i understand where the dealership comes in on that price. I had a similar quote at the dealership around my house. But you have to think too because dealer oe parts are way more expensive plus the time it takes to get the job done. Its easily a 5-6 hour job and theres only 1 tech working on the car, i know because my friend used to work at Audi. And after you add it all up thats about right. They also dont charge per hour either, thats the cost of a job, so if a tech takes extra long do it because something breaks or whatever, they dont get paid more, not to mention all the parts and labor are warrantied. It wouldnt be so bad if you could bring them your own parts because that would save you at least a couple hundred bucks.

And for people that don't have time/skill to do it that's totally understandable. Your average joe shhmo isn't going to try it.

On another note, I've got a funny rattle that sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine. Bring the rpms up the slightest bit and it goes away. Sounds like a diesel. Weeeeird. Scanning the car tmrw to figure out what all these lights on my dash are about

Been doing way to much of this http://vimeo.com/23239968 to work on the car. My worn out bumper clips piss me off.. my torn ass seats piss me off.. my suspension pisses me off. However! Things are poppin, I've finally met some car gurus that know what they are doing. I've got some things planned. But, I probably won't have any pictures up until the car is sitting proper.

Hope everyone elses show season is going well!

I hate how these bumpers mount. I wish there was an easy way to mod the bumper to bolt on the sides instead of clipping in. Ever since I done the FrankenTurbo upgrade on my A4, I havent put the bumper back on due to the mounting and trimming of the fmic.

Well, my thread sucks still. Picked up a set of ml320 wheels w/tires for cheap the other night and went "mehhh...maybe I'll run these sometime" Next day I found a set of a8 pie plates for $65 on craigslist...too say the least the old timer had no idea what he had. I love craigslist. Happy Thanksgiving to me.

There was so much road grime on them. Could use a good polish for sure.

Studded snow tires and wheel gap like a mother****er

Had a little run in with a few chickens in the middle of nowhere kansas a few months ago and broke my grill/windshield/center bumper grill.

In the process of making bumper grills from allroad mesh. Probably should invest in some bumper clips and redo my lamin-x'ed headlights while I'm at it.

Edit...I need coilovers. So so bad.
