Block was prepped last night for some POR 15. Also dropped the crank off at the machine shop to be cleaned and polished up. Should have that today or tomorrow.

I also ordered a new timing chain kit from ECS. The car only has about 70k on it, but I figured why not. Plus the head spacer may have put a bit more strain on the chains. Low temp fan switch and t-stat should also be here soon.

Cant you get away fron the extra strain by shaving down the top guide between the VVT sprockets.

man, nothing is going smoothly with this build. I was going to start to assemble the motor last night down at IE when Pete noticed most of my oil squirters were missing. We are guessing they fell out when the block was getting hot tanked. I called the machine shop and they are going to look around for them.

similar thing happened to me. I had the machine shop assemble the short block and the little zip-lock bag with the squirters hid from the machinist and he forgot to put them in so I had to go in and take everything apart and put it back together myself.

you can get new ones from the dealer, they are dirt cheap

it seems that they are actually that expensive, $48 each from the dealership. the cheap ones are for other vr's maybe?? how many are you missing?? I think I might have some but will need to look for them. I can let you know tonight if I find them.

good luck man, did you poke through the ports to see if they are not pushed in a bit and hiding from you?

tell your machine shop to look around the area where they honed it too....

You can see all the way through the ports so they completely fell out.

So the machine shop couldn't find them until I sent them a picture of what they looked like and sure enough they were able to find them.

For sure his machine shop sounds like a bunch of morons. I would not trust them with anything after reading this thread. Good luck I hope it works out.

They are actually a really good machine shop. The squirter's must have fallen out in the hot tank when the block expanded a bit. They are used to 1.8T's which have bolt in squirter's that you must take out before honing the block.

O really? Nice, there is also one March 26th. That one would be cutting it a bit close. Who made the most power last time? Was it Hank's car?

yup, 520, his first pull was 440, he was tuning between runs. not bad considering the numbers put down by other cars, less then 300awhp for both rs4s, right at 300 for a stage 3+ b5s4 (most put down 400)

I could try for 600+, but I don't think my clutch can hang with that.

Went down to IE yesterday and started measuring all my clearances before installation. That crank is a PITA to measure. Luckily Pete has some pretty bad ass digital mic's. Ran out of time so will be finishing up tomorrow.

Got the short block built over the weekend... well almost. We broke a piston ring during install so I currently have a built VR5 while we wait for a new ring from JE.
