Looks like Kotick was DENIED access to BF3!
CVG Home / News Posted on Thursday 9-Jun-2011 11:36 AM E3 2011: Bobby Kotick wanted to play Battlefield 3 at E3. EA said No.
Activision boss asked for a cheeky gander. True story.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick wanted to play Battlefield 3 at E3 2011 yesterday. Only one problem: he had to get past EA.
A senior informant has told CVG of how they witnessed Kotick's PA discuss Bobby's chances of a hands-on trial of the military FPS with EA reps on the door of the publisher's non-public presentation.
Our deepthroat tells us that the female assistant hopped to the front of the EA queue on Wednesday morning (08/06/11). The DICE-developed military title is only being shown behind closed doors in Los Angeles - and not on console.
Her request was reportedly stewed over for a minute in private, until an EA rep re-emerged on the public show floor. He then explained that senior management had been consulted about the Activision chief's request, but that "it would not be possible".
Kotick's company is showing off BF3 competitor Modern Warfare 3 at E3 - a presentation which is also invite-only.
We're told by our witness that Kotick's PA put up a small conversational fight before walking away. She did not look in a good mood. Our observer asked an EA rep on the door for clarification of what he thought he'd seen immediately afterwards, and the events were corroborated.
Seriously, though. Beyond amazing.
EA's Battlefield 3 will be released on 360, PS3 and PC on October 25 in the US and three days later in Europe.
Activision's Modern Warfare 3 will hit the same formats on November 8 worldwide.

Any confirmation on whether or not the UAV will come back?
#219
This I know, but I always found it weird how they chose the weapon that isn't actually used by the US Military instead of the M107 or the M82.
Maybe it'd be too easy to snipe, but in real life you can't hold scope targets with that weapon anyway so they could do it like America's Army and just force you out of the scope after you shoot.
Attention! I shoot basketball from the front row. I spend hundreds of dollars for expensive tickets. I smuggle in long, expensive cameras and lenses, and security doesn't even bat an eye. That's right. I'm special. All because I want to sell you a 50mm 1.8 lens so you can be just as cool. Have a good day.

Yes, sliding and the UAV are in the game. (UAV is scouts only)

Here is the issue I have always had with the Battlefield series (and I'm not saying COD is perfect either, so bear with me):
Destructible environments are fine, if they would actually serve a purpose. For example (and we've all been there), I'll be lighting up a building or something with someone inside, just to see that person go running away from the rubble unharmed. Or the building/structure will destruct down to everything except that one 2X4 you are hiding behind that is invulnerable to tank fire or weapons fire for some reason, etc.
Scale - I love having a huge map to play on, but it's also a hinderance. It's frustrating as hell to get killed, not have a team member to spawn next to (because they are all dead too), and then not even have an ATV or other motorized vehicle to close the distance from point A to B. So I spend the next 15 or 20 minutes chasing down people and the action from across the map - it just always got old.
Sniping - this goes in with the scale issue. There's nothing like being able to sit on a mountaintop 3 miles away and sniping at people spawning from their base.
Splash damage - you can put this up there with the destructible environments. I'm sitting there emptying tank fire at someone who is just tip toeing through it or jumping around Halo style without taking any damage. Or they are standing next to a building and while I'm leveling the building to the ground, the person I'm aiming at walks away scot free. I guess tank shells can't go through anything......
Vehicular homicide - while the last one was a bit better, I lost track of how many times I ran over someone with a tank or other large vehicle and did not damage to them.
While this new game looks beautiful, I haven't heard of anything being done to address these issues. This is only reason why I always end up back with COD because it's a more up close and personal game. Battlefield *should* be better because of what it offeres, but I've always found it too frustrating to keep playing it. I'm sure if I actually had a group of friends that I could play a closed match with, I may think differently, but I don't have such a group. So I'm always stuck playing public matches and we all know how that goes.

Looks like this game will be butchered up and served a few different ways depending on where you buy the game. Different weapons for different stores. Lame.

As long as the guns are all mediocre in that they aren't necessarily better than similar guns that are in the game, I couldn't care less. I'll still download this game from Steam no matter what DLC I do or don't get.
If you want game companies to stop doing this crap, just stop pre-ordering your games. With Best Buy's being pretty much everywhere, there is zero need to pre-order anything other than a new console on its release day these days.

I just hope that by 10/25/2011 doctors have figured out how to cure blown minds. BFBC2 was amazing, and this will be the same. I mean there are jets for gods sake. JETS!!! Do you know how well an rcxd would fair against a JET!!!
Recap: JETS!!!

The problem is that different stores are going to have different weapons packs. Some might be more powerful weapons than others and that's the rub. It's only going to get more complicated and expensive.

Have you played any BF game? This is just a unlock so you don't have to rank up. These are not things that will be unavailable unless you pre-order. This just gives you some unlockable crap without having to rank up for it. Nothing to worry about, you will have the same weapons/ammo/upgrades with rank.

Did you never play BF2?
I'm going to echo what MeineFolks'wagen said because I've said it before and I've said it in this very thread. What he wrote are the main things they need to fix.
I'd also love to figure out how to get an entire team of snipers to move forward so that you don't immediately lose the match while they all sit on a hill. Quite often, I just quit out of matches like that.

having two sick snipers on a team always helps though, especially on panama canal. snipers with tracer darts though...well that's just a old wives tale![]()
#234
No doubt. Having a couple solid shooters distracting the other team and putting them on the defensive is always handy. An entire team of motionless stumps isn't helping anybody.![]()

Physical Warfare Pack available to all Battlefield 3 players later this year
A point of clarification for all of our Battlefield fans. We will unlock the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack to all Battlefield 3 players later this year – for free. Read on for more details on this and Back to Karkand.
So maybe this is stating the obvious, but all of us at DICE are here because of our passion for games and the passion to bring you the games we too love to play. I always knew our pre-order offers for Battlefield 3 would be open to misunderstandings. This post is an attempt by me to answer any questions you have.
I would like to start by clarifying that the Physical Warfare Pack is a time-based exclusive. If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3 at a retailer carrying the Physical Warfare Pack, don’t worry. We will unlock the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack for free to all Battlefield 3 players later this year.
The Physical Warfare Pack will be available as a pre-order bonus all over the globe. Right now, the UK is the only country where it has been announced, but stay tuned to get constant updates on where you can pick this up in your country. And remember, if you do not pre-order, you will still get access to this content at a later date, free of charge. If you do pre-order, you will get access to it from day one.
For Battlefield: Bad Company 2, many in the Battlefield community were very vocal about wanting additional, new maps to expand the multiplayer experience. With Battlefield 3, we want to make sure we can increase your library of maps quicker than we did for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. We also want to give you something special for pre-ordering, as pre-ordering is basically your way of saying you believe in DICE and Battlefield 3. When we announced that everybody who pre-orders Battlefield 3 would get an entire future expansion pack at no extra charge, I knew we had created a very generous pre-order offer.
Back to Karkand is a massive, themed expansion pack available a period of time after the base game, developed by a separate team here at DICE -- the same team that brought you Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. If you played Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, you have a pretty good idea about the scope and ambition of our expansion packs. This is so much more than just four remixed maps.
If you pre-order Battlefield 3, you will be able to play Back to Karkand at no extra charge as soon as it is released, but it is not day one DLC and it is not on the base game disc. We think it’s a sweet deal, and it’s available to everyone everywhere. If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3, you can still buy Back to Karkand separately and play it as soon as it is released, the very same date as anyone who pre-ordered. In other words, there is no segmentation of the community when we launch the base game.
There are more pre-order offers for Battlefield 3 out there, and in order to try and avoid any confusion we will return within the next couple of weeks to detail all of them as well.
As always, post any questions you have here, in our forums, on Facebook, or Twitter. We are listening and value your opinion.
Cheers,

They could avoid confusion by not having a million different pre-order offers. Just say, pre-order the game and you get these things along with it. Buy it after launch and these things will be available free while these things will be available via paid download.
