J-10s owning the map got old, suicide-C4 buggies got old, teamkilling for spots in chopper got old real fast...getting back to plain old first person shooter 3rd party add-ons such as the Project Reality Mod made it fun again. 32 vs. 32 man battle front, in an open field (Jalalabad), put a different spin on things, and made it interesting again, and put everyone on a level playing field.

Can't wait to get home and play the beta tonight. So far I'm really not feeling the graphics, the guns look so bland. There is no detail on them like on MW & COD (I'm not saying MW or COD is better just comparing the guns). I guess I'll have to wait and see for myself tonight. The gameplay looks pretty solid, but it also seems like a lot of running going on and it takes a while to find combat. Like I said I need to play the beta and see exaclty what this game plays and looks like.

Meh...I get more action in infantry only map as sniper, often taking point (and shooting while standing), especially with SVD/M24, and leading with kills at the end of the round. On vehicle maps, that would be harder to do vs. tanks/jets/APCs. Chopper kill with Barrett is always fun though.

first you need to install Origin (EA's Steam-like client)

after you register look for the BF3 Beta banner ad

Maybe its just me, but a game has to have some seriously terrible graphics in order for me to complain about them. This doesn't fall into that category, especially if you talk about the PC version.

FWIW, I tried installing the Origin client on my XP Pro box...didn't work as it was missing some .dll file. I'm not saying it won't work on XP, but word on the street is that it will require at least Vista, if that is a concern.

My biggest concern is my video card. It's only DirectX10, but it is a GTX285 2GB card.

Downloaded and played the XBOX demo this morning for a few rounds. Defend and Attack waves on Metro level.

Plays pretty much like BFBC2 with the addition of going fully proned.

    my views:
Graphically it runs at 30fps which is fine by me, that's what BFBC2 ran at. The map seemed pretty solid with the only noticeable glitches were when you were killed and the camera would venture below the map. The map looks great, there's really no time to nitpick the graphics while playing, I didn't notice any popup or strange textures etc...

Sound was great (again it was great in BC2).

There is a little bit wait in the respawn very tedious when you want to jump right back in and kill someone(seemed like it was more than BC2), I know the COD players are going to have complaints with that.

The lobby complaints I had with BC2 remain here, there is no way of leaving a lobby between matches short of exiting the game...I assume like the previous one you can leave one you are in the match ,which leads to the severely lopsided matches<---(haven't noticed that yet in BF3 but it just launched demo-wise...)

I wonder if the experience you gain in the demo transfers over to the game?

Roger that...I think I'm going to pick up that 570GTX, with the 2.5GB RAM, given the negligible increase in price over regular 570s ~1GB. On the more crowded maps, with all the nades going off , any frame rate under 60 always seemed too choppy "for me" with BF2.

I'll see how the GTX285 works first.

I have noticed that when people left on a team, it was usually filled back in pretty quickly. this could just be because there aren't a tone of servers online, but who knows.

and last I heard, I don't think the experience carries over unfortunately.

I haven't noticed it in this game, but the demo just came out so people are eager to play. It was bad in BC2, because when in the lobby it seemed like an even match, once the game started people would leave one side or the other and you'd end up with a 10 on 2 match.

    exactly
I can forgo the DX11 fanciness
I just want to have a strong DX10 experience.
I still play BF2 occasionally. Graphics aren't a driving force for me

just played a bunch of rounds on PC (my specs = 2600k + SLI 560Ti) and 2-3 on xbox...

PC version looks pretty good on max settings, not Crysis good but fine, ground textures suck. with vsync enabled frame rates were all over the place, at 60fps while nothing is going on but dropping below 10fps when outdoors during large battles, indoors in the subway tunnels it ran fairly smooth always above 30fps. if i really get into this game i see myself buying two 580s

the xbox version looks like ****, much worse than BFBC2, really hope these are beta graphics and will get much better. also, i noticed a creep/bias glitch were it would not stay put after walking/sprinting unless you pulled the stick back a bit, maybe my controller is fcked but i doubt it

sucks that my cheapass friends dont have decent PCs and will be likely playing on ecksbawks

origin had an update this morning... make sure youre updated

also you cannot use you email as your login name... i had an origin account for BFBC2 (PS3) but never before played any PC origin game, when i tried to launch the game it was giving me a server error.. so i logged in on the website with my email, immediately it asked me to create an origin ID/gamertag. after that it worked.

560 "SLI" and still dipping into the 10s? What resolution are you running?

yep, ridiculous, at one point it dropped to 7FPS

keep in mind it was running above "ultra" settings, with antialiasing, anisotropy, and everything else maxed which is completely unnecessary for 1900x1080, i just wanted to see how it did.

i think the bad frame rates are mostly due to insufficient VRAM, my GPUs only have 1GB

i read that the developers said something like "no current PC configuration can run BF3 fully maxed at high FPS"

Just got back from playing PC beta

Able to run it on ultra with good 30fps HOWEVER, the graphics....they look NOTHING like the videos. Sorry to say this but it looks MAYBE little better than Bad Company 2.

But the videos were a hoax

    Looks VERY plasticy to me.

As for gameplay, well I don't like Rush......and so far the game is full of run and gun.

Im really glad I got red orchestra 2

Has anyone had any issues with squads. A group of friends and I have been having issues in keeping our squad together when we join games. Also I've been having issues with it going to selective fire automatically. Anyone else having this issue on the 360?

Is this standard for Betas? I thought I remembered reading threads about game betas and most said the released game didn't change all that much from the Beta.

Basically what I'm asking is...is this beta causing a disproportionate amount of complaining compared to other betas...say Gears 3?

I guess I worry that this beta is worse off than others, and that if they only see the typical amount of improvement from beta --> production, it'll be disappointing.

Well you figure the maps in this beta are far larger than Gears of War 3. BF3's beta for xbox is a 1+GB file. Maybe size was an issue with the xbox beta version and they had to tone down the graphics.

most betas are to just find a few bugs and what not, but as this is only a 1 gig download, I can see how it might be toned down before final release. and there are quite a few graphical glitches in this beta. the gears beat was real clean.

It was also a developer that said the final will look much better, and not some random person.
