Will do. I dig the community around here as well so I'll be around for a while.

The first couple of days I didn't know what direction I wanted to go in with it but now I have a plan and idea of what I want it to look like and the mods I want to make. Now it's just a matter of saving up the money. lol.

Your engine bay is CLEAN. Nice work. I'll make sure to get some pics of the blacked out engine bay once I get the coil caps and tubing in.

The R got tinted today. Looks so much better imo.

Wifey took a couple pics with her cam before it died.

Then took some quick shots with her camera phone.

Went to an air cooled meet a couple of weeks ago with the R. Figured you guys may be interested in seeing what was out there. Some pretty sweet rides.

    First, the R:

    And the rest:

The grill was actually housed in an old VW chassis. lol.

Get in touch with Rdurty2. He's letting one go for a pretty reasonable price.

Received and installed my AfE Stage 2 Pro 5 R intake today. Total install time took about 1 - 1/2 hour with a friend of mine.

Sound - I can't get over how much better the car sounds. Both during standstill revving and during acceleration. I drove home with the radio off, windows up and got wood every time I gave it some gas (@ 3k rpm/70 MPH). I can't compare this intake's sound with that of other intakes considering it's the only intake I've ever had installed in this car aside from the stock one but the "baritone", deep growls coming from the engine are amazing. Revving the engine, the car/intake seem to be digging deep and taking it some serious amounts of air. My brother in law - who helped me pick out the car and works for VW was very much impressed with the sound and even moreso the appearance of the intake.

Performance - Right off the bat, throttle response, much quicker. The R is no slouch, even stock but there's just something different now. From a stop, at a redlight, barely touching the gas gets me moving. I don't feel like I lost any of the car's low end torque either. My buddy who helped me install it, and also has driven the car on two occasions (a lot harder than I do mind you lol), says the performance gain is noticeable. I agree. Nothing drastic but like I said, there feels to be more power or pickup readily available.

Appearance - I'm a fan of AfE's setup. The powder coated heat shield. The air filter tucked away and out of sight. Not everyone is a huge fan of the way AfE's intake would look in their engine bay and I can understand that. I prefer substance over style when it comes to performance.

As of right now, I'm thoroughly satisfied and impressed with the AfE's intake. The 2-3 people who have seen and heard it are also impressed. It makes the R that much more enjoyable to drive (and listen to). Installation was fairly easy and for the most part self explanatory. Aside from us not having a 5 star security torx bit to remove the maf sensor and me dropping a hose clamp , the install was a breeze.

I'd highly recommend this intake to anyone searching for one. However, don't spend 400 bucks on it as it's listed on afe's website, afepower.com

I was able to find mine, new on amazon for 250 (which is right around the price range of the evom's v-flow and other MK 5 R32 intakes.

Here's a really bad quality video of the intake right after installation lol. Video does the intake no justice though imo. But here it is nonetheless.

Went up to Tampa/St. Pete this weekend for the wife and I's 1 year anniversary. Coincidentally, there was a car show @ The Pier in St. Pete. Snapped some shots that you guys may (or may not ) find cool.

Didn't drive the R up. We actually rented a dodge caliber. As soon as we got home, I hugged the R. Driving the uncomfortable caliber made me realize just how comfortable and fun the R is in comparison.

I'm starting to contemplate exhausts. At the top of my list are Borla & Neuspeed cat back systems. Anyone have experience with either and/or other systems. I looked at capristo and kreissieg exhausts but those are way out of my price range.

I had a Dodge Caliber as a rental in Kansas. I originally had a Chevy Aveo and made them upgrade me for free since the Aveo was a complete piece of crap, especially in the snow. Compared to the R, it's hands down crap. Compared to the Aveo, the Caliber is amazing.

Maybe save up for some of these high end ones? Lol. If you do everything at once, you wont have anything to look forward to in the years to come.

Considered doing the Tampavw magnaflow resonator mod? Couple that with the rdirty2 switch mod and it's a pretty nice setup.

Aveo. Caliber wasn't that bad I suppose. Just really uncomfortable and felt like a cow. The blind spots in that car are HORRIBLE too.

Those high end ones (capristo, kreissieg) are up in the 3k-4k range. I just can't see myself paying that much for an exhaust. They sound great, undeniable. They probably increase performance significantly more than the ~800$ Borla/Neuspeeds but again, that's just way more than I can see myself spending on an exhaust.

I've actually heard of the TampaVW mod in a thread or two somewhere but couldn't find any threads regarding it. Rdirty switch? You mean the flapper mod? In all honesty though, I haven't considered that. I REALLY like what I've seen (and heard) in videos showcasing the neuspeed and borla exhausts.

    Thanks bud.

That's hilarious that you noticed the same on the Caliber. I was very cautious while driving it. I double checked for blind spots every time I switched lanes. Such a horrible interior/window design. American car designs as of late really leave me

As promised, pictures of the aFe Stage 2 Intake.

The intake (air filter) sits inside the powder coating heat shield encasement.

And the H&R's that I brought home just hours ago.

Nope, they are there. You just gotta dig a little farther

Look at the bottom of the left side; you'll see pics of the black anodized cap. At the bottom there is a drop down to select your finish, just pick black in there to order it instead of brushed.

And they look like this once you get them in:

"Honey? I bent a wheel on the .:R today, need to order a replacement. They are $179 + shipping, probably be around $190-$200 or so... I know I just got the coilovers, but this is more of a repair issue, not an upgrade?"

"Did you get that new wheel yet?"

"Yeah, take a look! you can't even tell, it matches perfectly with the other three, isn't it nice?"
