Thread: how much oil for 1.8T

    1. 02-08-2011 01:57 PM #1
How much oil do I use for an oil & filter change on a 2003 1.8T? Jetta

My regular garage says 4.6 Liters and another VW specialist garage says 4 liters max!

The specialist says that oil should only be checked on a warm engine thats been sitting for at least 3 minutes. My regular garage just goes by the dipstick.

It depends on what size filter you use. I use the larger Passat filter and end up using close to 5 quarts.

Really?? Does it honestly matter this much? Fill it up, look at the dipstick, as long as some is on the stick, start it up, drive it around the block maybe, check it and add as needed.

      *sigh* kids.

      4 liters MAX.
      1 liter = 1.1 quarts
      4 liters = 4.4 quarts.

      Yay! Mystery solved!

As am I. Besides I'm way to much of a cheap bastard to let .2 quarts of oil go to waste.
