I found the problem. It was the bearing cap on no. 1 cylinder and the intermediate shaft that runs the oil pump

    Old engine out (ATW)

    New engine ( AEB )

    Prepping it up for installation

Install all new bolts and nuts, aligning the transmission and engine to the frame is a huge pain in the asset lol

    wire covered

    New belts and such

Start it without pump and spark plugs off, build oil pressure. builds up 12 psi, good.
Install plugs and pump relay, crank it up, run for 10 seconds, shut it off. Ran like Sh**
Second start, run for 20 seconds, shut off, still bad, but oil pressure build up to 80 psi on idle.
Third start, let run for 5 minutes, engine quiets down alot, misfire like hell, leaks coolant, shut off
Repair leaks and found out two coils were bad, went to the store and got two new ones, they are the new style coil overs, bought clamps and install.
Crank it up again and let it sit on idle until operating temp, runs beautifully. Rev it up to 2000 rpm for 5 minutes, runs smooth. shut it off, check leaks. Cool it down some, install bumper, lights etc.

Ran it very lightly for first 3 days, no shifts after 2500 rpm, check oil and fluids religiously, noticed my a/c idler pulley is making a grind noise.... took it off, wait 5 days for new part to come in XD. installed it after it came, now she sounds like a cadillac on idle OMG

I run it so far for a week, the engine runs soooo perfect (knock on wood) I couldn't believe it. I also notice.... I havent installed my emission system back on due to AEB SAI delete head...and the check engine light never came on..... Great

I am very very happy with it

    Oil change
AEB intake manifold ( will be polished/painted)
Grills, trimmed and place back on for stock look

Lol thanks, and yeah I noticed alot of people have pixel-murdered MFAs, scares me.....

Hahahaha I received two cars from my father, in turn I repair both myself with money I made from airplane business.

    Updates:
New intake manifold, port matched with my bigger AEB head, painted, polished ( seriously saw difference of power from my old small port ATW mani XD seriously pulls up to 5k EASY and wants to go even more but backed off since im breaking it in some more)

New chipped ECU by GIAC, set up for KO4 plus FMIC and injectors ( unfortunately, the ECU is designed for the AEB electrical system and I have the later ATW electrical system) bummer

Forge motorsport DV ( installing it tommorow )

K/N drop in fatory style filter ( removed my old cone filter, put stock box in with new k/n drop in) got some gain out of it since it isn't heat lagging anymore.

green top injectors ( used with ECU but again, cannot use

If anyone would like a nice chipped ECU for AEB quattros by GIAC, tuned for ko4 with FMIC and larger injectors plus green top injectors, I would let go for 450 shipped or any trades that will interest my audi and myself lol lemme know

That is an awsome idea with the streamer, I might have to steal that... It's ok though I'll get a remove before flight one.

When I had my old engine ( atw code ) i have replaced the lifters, variable chain cam tensioner, flush the oil system, and replaced the oil pump. The engine still ticked. So I tore the engine apart and found the rod bearing on no. 1 cylinder was loose, and the intermediate shaft that drove the oil pump ( the bearing was shot). I went ahead and got a very low milage AEB engine, and rebuild it to new standards still silent to this day, amd much, much more powerful to add.

AEB and ATW codes are the same engine except the atw has the sai port and it is a small ported head versus the big ported head, sai deleted aeb. The blocks are clearly indentical

improving. I would like it better without the eurotrash plate and I <3 haters sticker that every 17 year old has and the random grille ornament.. surprised you don't have a stuffed animal dragging off the rear tow hook I like the headlights except how the corners aren't painted

    Update:
    Fresh Mobil1 oil change
magnaflow unresonated exhaust is on, sounds great

The lights, yeah....I am getting the s4 clear corner type since these are fading/cracking

The ornament stays Represent my uniqueness since no one else around my area has one or have the ability to have access to the airport

The sticker....yeah I am abit too grown for that, I will remove it and put something more "audi" appropriate.

The "Eurotrash" plate, hahahahaha I get so many remarks and weird looks that I am going to agree ( by force :/ ) that it isn't such a good idea.... but another europlate will take its place since I have no filler plate

    New K04 BNIB IN

    DONE

Magflow exhaust on as well, sounds beautiful

Car runs very, very well, boost up to 10 lbs on a stock ecu. The GIAC chip is next to support the Ko4. Also fixed little leak bugs and Im very happy with it

Very aggressive sound it makes, plus it isn't a chinese bull**** turbo. It is manufactured in the usa by Emotor USA. The parts and quality is muuucchh better than the chinese b.s. since the turbo from the ko3 is identical as far as hardware. The inlet and outlet are larger of course.

So far got 80 miles on turbo, runs like a champ with no leaks, running on fresh G12 coolant and mobil 1 5w-40 oil

well, something happened to my baby

Two weeks of driving, my k04 died.......

Blew blue smoke everywhere and oil was slightly spitting out of the turbo-to-downpipe housing

But im not SO worried because not only the seals were defective, I kinda did my part wrong by not "properly" warm up the turbo and not cleaning my turbo drain hose sooo I kinda rushed it and it cause me this.

It spools VERY nicely and all, but just blow smoke soooo I went ahead, got me ANOTHER k04 turbo by Godspeed with warranty, plus the more hefty amount of parts to prevent the turbo from dying again.

OEM thermostat, gasket since my engine temps stay at "C" all the time.....big issue
    New G12 coolant again
New turbo related gaskets ( exhaust, oil, coolant)
oil pressure switch( to stop my damn oil light from beeping when reaches operating temp)
New 5w-40 mobil 1 full synthetic oil and K/N filter
    Catless downpipe
Brand new timing belt ( awared the belt was not changed, but did change the tensioner and pulleys)
GIAC J31 k04 file tuning ( will be done AFTER it is all squared away since I will drive to get it done )

All parts will be inspected slowly, cleaned, and possibly replaced using aviation grade hardware from my school since they are generous enough to help out

All screws and bolts will be replaced, and up a notch with safety wire so it wont bounce out on me again.

Also, LUCKILY my beautiful B4 passat lives and being my DD while my audi gets a surgery

    stay tuned

  32. 11-09-2011 04:17 PM #67
why does it look like you were able to simply reach down that space and remove the turbo with little problems?

should've just clear cornered the lights. they even looked fine before with the amber corners.

Well the timing belt needed to be done, plus I have more room to do all this since I got all the fluids and parts to do it.

The lights I know, I will get them replaced as well.

Don't replace them if it's what you like. I just personally think you ruined a good set of lights. It's YOUR build so my opinions invalid here anyways.
