Does Home Depot even have torx screw drivers? If I do this, I was just gonna stick a few magnets on my torx bit holder

I dropped the screw too but a good magnet pulls it right back out...took me 15 minutes because I had to find said magnet.

That glovebox latch is a pain in the ass . I bought a screwdriver and a magnetizer to remove the screw... pulling out the screw ever so gently, it fell . I had a powerful magnet and managed to suck out the screw. Removed the old latch and gently pulled out the lock cylinder... a little spring falls of and a locking tooth . Fixed the lock cylinder and installed it into the new latch. Installed the new latch on the glovebox, time for the screw from hell. First try...it fell, second...it fell, third...again . Then an epiphany ... super glue the damn screw to the screwdriver! . Super glued it, found the hole, tighten it, then pulled the screwdriver out hard . Done and it was worth it

You shut your dirty little mouth right now, mister. Or, post step-by-step DIY with pictures - that would be OK too maybe then I could figure a better way to get the MDI run to armrest console...

Hey Neo, I notice you did the RCD-510 swap. Hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions.

What HU did you have originally?

I don't have sirius active now but may consider getting it once I install the new HU. I know the RCD comes with built in sirius (correct me if i'm wrong) but I keep reading about needing a sirius antenna extension. I'm assuming you also had the sirius module under your passenger seat originally as well. Just trying to shed some light as that's really the only thing I'm still kind of regarding the whole swap.

Another question, the radio requires a CAN module of revision 'L' or newer. I read that 2008 and newer models have the correct module already installed. I just want to be sure our cars already do. You didn't need a new module or need to get yours updated, did you?

    Thanks in advance.

I had the non nav oem radio. Yeah, the sirius is built into the RCD. So since the current sirius module is under the passenger seat, you would need the extension that runs from under the seat back up to the headunit (bypassing the module).

Our cars all have the new module, so that shouldn't be a problem . And don't forget the AM/FM antenna adapter as well:

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I'll have to run some sirius wire.

Sounds like a pain in the ass from the DIY's I've seen.

Not a bad idea either. Truth be told, I've rented cars with sirius active in them and wasn't impressed by the selection all that much. Everything I want I can place on an IPOD, MP3 disc or in the RCD's case, an SD card. How much is sirius monthly anyway? I still have that 3 free months introductory offer and don't really even care enough to activate it. That and I can save the 35 bucks that I'd spend on the extension cable.

The RCD is a 6 CD (MP3?) changer as well right?

I ran it, was easy...the diy on golf/jetta said to use a coat hanger, I used an aileron hinge pin I had in the garage...but when I went to use it to push the cable, the carpet and padding separated, so I just use my hand to carve a tunnel, can't tell it ever came up.

Just I got the OEM+ cable, when I talked to them they said they still had 4 or 5, just it has an extra 10 ft it seems you gotta coil up on the floor, but it all fits.

Just I found out my car seems to have an extra torx under the dash vent...which I almost snapped off...being I didn't see it at first and was being rough with it.
