What key chain works well with the keyfobs of the mk6? The ring on the keychain the dealer gave me is way too big.

You don't need a new windshield to get an auto-dimming mirror. Here is one of many DIY instructions from the interwebs: http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12787

I have a valentine one radar detector that I recently purchased and I’m trying to find the best place to hard wire it into the car. I know I saw some threads in the mk5 section as to how to get the wiring to the fuse block. Now I can’t remember what search term I used to get there.

Please help? Can I wire it to the map lights as I don’t have a moon roof?

This is gonna sound like a re-tard question but. Would an S3 intercooler bought for a MK5 tsi have any issues fitting to my mk6?

I searched and saw a thread on this, but it was left fairly unanswered. Can you add VW cruise control to a MKVI Jetta S and, if so, how big of a PITA is it?

  10. 03-25-2011 12:47 PM #115
I have to believe this has been asked before, but a search turned up nothing.

On my RCD-510, is there a way that I can have both AM and FM station presets together on the same screen?

Ultimately what I'd like to be able to do is to flip through preset FM stations and preset AM stations using the MFSW < and > buttons.

Obviously this works flawlessly if/when all of the presets are on the same band.

Seems about right. I don't remember if the triple square is 14 though. About 90% sure it is.

Here's a truly stupid question for ya:

How do you pronounce the "Vag" in Vag-Com?

Is it Vag like vagina...like 'vaj' ?

Or Vag like "bag" "rag" or "lag" is pronounced?

Told you it was a stupid question.

    in on stupid.

so i have that smart key for my '11 gti. i can not figure out for the life of me how to lock the car without using the keyfob. the unlock is good, works perfectly... but not the lock feature. i put my hand on the handle, walk away and it doesn't lock.

my car also doesn't lock automatically after the key is out of range for 15 minutes. we hooked it up to vagcom and there is no setting in there that we could see.... what am i doing wrong? it's so annoying to have to take my key out for that.

    thanks!

On Friday I had to call my VW service dept to figure out how to get the black lug covers off of my stock Detroit wheels for the first time (after having tried a bunch of hex sockets and screwdrivers to no avail).

It turns out there's a special puller tool in the spare tire kit just for this. Or you can fashion one yourself by bending a little hook at the end of some medium grade wire (like a coathanger).

Insert tool, hook on cover, pull.

Thought I'd save somebody else the embarrassment of that phonecall.

    Yes first VW.

I've done just about everything imaginable to my former WRX, from timing belt change to turboback exhaust to brakes, springs, electrical stuff, short shifter etc. I had that car apart and back together more times than I can count.

Needless to say, having to ask how to remove wheels was more than a tad humbling.

  25. 04-12-2011 03:10 PM #130
As long as I'm entertaining folks, here's another potentially massively boneheaded one.

Once the stupid plastic thingies are off, you...
    1) break the bolts with the car on the ground (so the wheels don't spin)
    2) jack the car with the bolts still on, but loosened
    3) remove the bolts once the car is elevated

I *almost* did 3) before 2). That would have been a disaster -- wheel could have popped off under weight, and the bumper and/or rotor could have crashed to the ground.

With the Subie you could do it in either order, didn't matter, because the hubs had studs and nuts, not bolts.

How about forgetting to tighten a valve cover down and starting the engine on a show car with a freshly detailed bay the day before H20.

    *facepalm

OK this may be extremely stupid but I am going to ask it.

Why did VW do away with the VR6 and why? Did the MKV have an option for the VR6? I thought it was a pretty popular option with VW community.

The VR is a horribly archaic and extremely un-efficient engine by todays standards (as much as I feel it's leagues superior than any TSI engine out today).

174-200hp out of a 2.8 V6 (or 240 out of a 3.2) is laughable when it all boils down to it. It stopped being used in MK4's and is still kept around for R32s.

Fun fact though as I'm sure not too many newbies in this forum know; the VR was initially designed to be a TDI engine before they decided to make it NA. That's why it's pretty much bulletproof and can handle up to 500whp on stock internals.

There is an indent on the face of the drivers door handle. When you get out of the car and close the doors, just touch your finger there, and it will lock the car, as long as the key is not in the car. I always use two fingers, and give a little swipe across from back to front, seems to work better. It will not lock itself if you just walk away. On the MkVI Jetta SEL only, you can hold your fingers there also and roll up the widows and close the sunroof. But this only works on the Jetta.

Joey- thanks for the info and makes complete sense. I wonder if they will redesign it and make bigger numbers and offer again one of these days. Its never good when an American v6 3.7 ltr is making 305 (Mustang) and a Japanese V6 3.5 ltr. is making 270 (Altima). I would love to see them bring it back one day.

Me too man. It's my favorite engine next to the 90's 5.0 Mustang engine. Can't beat the torque/hp equation and well, especially the sound at full throttle. Pure sex =)

The newer 4 cylinders VW has are just so weak and wimpy sounding =\

I personally hate mustangs but I have to agree you can't beat the sound of a mustang! I totally agree my mkIV sounded better stock than my mkVI does stock. Maybe that will change when I start doin some things in the future.

Oh, no doubt. I was actually quite surprised to see the Passat getting the 3.6 VR6, and not an option for the 2.0T. Weird in these times of fuel economy and green intentions....
