Software is done, we are in development for the proprietary wireless hardware right now. Apple has a lot of rules when it comes to this sort of stuff so we have to unfortunately play by their games for some of it.

    We are shooting for Christmas.

All you have to do is make a fart app, that also just so happens to be able to communicate to the the ECU in VWs. That'll make it past their rules in no time

I'll speak with engineering and see if we can halt development and start over on the other platform.

BTW, the plan is to support even ipod touch devices. You can get those for cheap w/o a phone contract. You can also buy them used for way cheaper.

Does android have a solution like that?

Honestly, we understand...whatever the most demand is for needs to be developed first...so I guess that is Apple

As for Android, not totally sure if they do...I will see if I can do a bit of research or perhaps others will chime in!

    Indeed they do.

Expect to see another version come out in a few months.

Then there are a bunch of Android tablets (tabs/pads/etc) out there as well that compete with the iPad.

What about Android...Surely there are WAY less rules there. Especially if you use some sort of microusb cable port. Or even the headphone jack (square up uses it to swype credit cards, and there is a company redeye (i think) uses it to send IR signals to your TVs like a universal remote)

(adding from the other thread since it seems to be dead)

This is probably the greatest/hardest thing to achieve. Communication to the car. Will it be backwards compatible with current Flashed Cars? Will we need to re-flash to get an update? Will you be selling a Headphone-jack to ODB/CAN port cable that will be required to use with this app?

Lots of questions that need to be looked at. If you need some help with development please pm me, I am an Electrical Engineer and very willing to help out in any way i can. Especially since i am a huge phone/gadget nerd ( xda-developer forum member since 2007, modifying my phone like you guys modify your cars (custom ROMS, Kernels, Apps, Rooting, etc), and love my APR Stage 1 Fully loaded ECU 2011 GTI

We chose the iDevices because they are currently the most supported devices out there that we could think of. Almost everyone we know has an iphone, or an ipad, or an ipod touch, or wants one, or can get one used for cheap even if it's only used for this app.

I'm not saying apple is better than android. I don't want to compare sales figures (not from you, just saying so others don't jump in here and go nuts like people do on every tech blog in the world ). This is just the direction we are taking first.

For hardware we are developing our own and are exploring all options.

For compatibility we are exploring all options and making sure the connection to the car and ECU is secure.

I wonder if Siri (on the iPhone 4S) will be able to switch programs for you?

I can see it right now...

User: "Siri, please activate stock mode."

Siri: "Ah, you must be going to the stealership."

    User: "Yes."

Siri: "I will switch that for you, would you like to clear codes?"

    User: "Why yes, thanks Siri."

Siri: "You smell beautiful today and, if I am not mistaken, your stance has even improved!"

    User: (walks off with smile)

I'm extremely interested in this. There are a few bt/obd2 adapters on the market already that work with ios apps, surely an interface that passes apple standard can't be terribly difficult?

    Anyway, looking forward to this!

To the best of my knowledge the app is done and the hold up currently is finding/producing an interface which is reliable, fast enough, and cost effective.

I don't know a whole lot about it but from my understanding wifi is the ideal choice but not cheap, and was told it was just recently they started allowing data transfer/changes via blue tooth. Other Im sure know more about this then i do, but i guess previously an idevice was not allowed to do what it needed to do to run this app over bluetooth

    Hopefully shouldn't be much longer

Cool. I just saw this in the MFT Tuning (German APR Distributor) 2012 catalog...

I really don't need this, but the cool factor is definitely there.

Now if Ross Tech would get on board!

Wifi 802.11 would be best for universal compatibility, but would be very pricey. I think Bluetooth 2.0/4.0 support would be best in the end. Bt4.0 would allow for a seamless experience on the iPhone. The device can automatically connect, and even allow for some rudimentary security features since bt4.0 allows for low powered basic networking...

Anyway, I'm sure y'all know this
