Let's not get too cocky since the Indians are off to a good start. Having a good record in May means nothing, it's in September that it counts.

Well that was a frustrating game. Roy is being Cole Hamels'd this year, along with Cliff.

yea... Indians traded him away... and that fat pitcher the yankees have now... Only team to have ever traded Cy Young winners in back to back years....

and rabbit, no i was just coming in for fun, didn't know that hitting the bees nest at the top was going to cause them to fly out in rabid form

so in my opinion, the phillies have been underachieving and it seems like every game I watch in the past couple weeks, Cole, Doc, and Cliff have lost. yet, they still lead the NL and in most of the rankings, most sites still have them #1.

again, the sputtering offense is to blame here, as I've been very happy with the pitching. But the bigger surprise is the stability of the bullpen, and for the first time in a long time, I am actually not opposed of keeping Madsen in the closer role (even with Lidge/Contreras coming back). Especially thinking about next year, Lidge will be gone, and Contreras will be 58, so why not give Madsen the extra looks this year so that he can possibly be the full time closer.

also, I like the bench players that they have this year. Mayberry, Orr, Valdez, and the back-up catchers have all played their roles well, and may have won a couple games for the Phillies. Aside from a Cody Ransom walk-off HR last year, all I can remember from the past 2 years of bench production is Eric Bruntlett helping out on a triple play and Gregg Dobbs taking a dump.

If Domonic Brown can come up to help out and a healthy Chase Utley can join the starting lineup (and perhaps one of the left or right outfield starters can start producing), perhaps the offense will start rolling, and we'll see the 162-0 team that we envisioned...

Agree with everything you said. It's hard seeing them blow so many winnable games already because of the inconsistent offense. Doc has only pitched one bad game so far this year and he has three losses to show for it. Same thing with Cliff. Chase will be the key to that coming around, Dom will just be a nice bonus.

Funny thing is that everyone is in sort of a panic mode, and they're still playing above .600 winning percentage ball. We've gotten spoiled, but I'm going to enjoy every last second of it - I'm dreading the day that it all falls apart and we have a mid-late 90's doldrums again. Hopefully that's a few years off.

speaking of mid-late 90's doldrums... this little tidbit from thefightins.com got me chuckling:

    The following things are true:

    1) The Phillies have the best record in the National League.

    2) Number one is true despite prominent playing time being given to people named Pete Orr, Wilson Valdez, Brian Schneider, and Ben Francisco.

    3) Chase Utley, Brad Lidge, and top prospect Dom “Aw Man” Brown have not played an inning yet. (Note: Even though he’s periodically infuriating, having Lidge back at closer creates a domino effect that pushes Madson back the 8th, and Bastardo/Romero/Contreras back to the 7th and blah blah blah less Kyle Kendrick in meaningful spots. This is a good thing.)

    4) Our rotation is twelve kinds of awesome with a ten-gallon hat on.

Seriously, next time you want to whine like a toddler, go back and read that list. Can you imagine how much other fanbases despise your complaining in the face of those four facts? Hell, just imagine how much your 2001 self would hate yourself now. A short trip in the Wayback Machine shows that the Phillies’ rotation that year consisted of Robert Person, Omar Daal, Randy Wolf, Dave Coggin, Bruce Chen, and something called an “Amaury Telemaco.” Yeesh. You know that guy who complains about the sound system in his brand new Porsche? You know how much you hate that guy? Because you’ve become him. Congratulations, you’re an a-hole.

That's funny - I just opened up thefightins and saw that huge rant that dangerguererro went on. Couldn't agree more. I love that site, but so many people have been whining up a storm over this stuff...one dude had the balls to say that Doc blew that game yesterday.

Um, no. SCORE SOME DAMN RUNS FOR THE GUY.

Seriously, man - I thought you were one of the normal ones over in TCL land...but you're definitely showing your colors right now. Go back to your indians thread, I'm not crashing in on that snoozefest, am I?

so, there can be no fun in these threads? all the smileys should tell you I am just having fun...

p.s. yes your phillies are the team to beat... You have the BEST starting pitcher lineup in the league... You have some of the best hitters in the league...

If i really wanted to crash any sort of thread, it would be a Mariners thread and I would post,

'Seattle, I would like to thank you for these players:
Ezequiel Carrera, Shin-Soo Choo, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Omar Vizquel

    Sincerely
    Cleveland Indians'

but honestly man, just remember I am just having fun... it's not serious enough for me to be serious yet... In october however when we meet in the WS

Utley makes a HUGE difference being back in the lineup. 10 runs, 14 hits. Of course he's the only starter without a hit.

Yup. Like I said over on thefightins - I don't care if he goes o - for - whatever. As long as he gets the rest of the guys to freaking hit the ball like they should at their career averages, he's doing his job.

dude I'm a scumbag, it was poker night and we went to see a midnight showing of the hangover after. Obviously I made the wrong choice.
And I passed up a ticket because it wasn't offered to me until 6:45, I want to kill myself.
