The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is actually much more than just a two day weekend of car shows and races. It's a 10 day motorsports festival that is unlike any other vintage car event in the world. This year Porsche will be marque of the year and the Allegheny Region of the Porsche Club of America has lots in store. This is THE Porsche gathering of 2011. Spotlight this year will be on The Cars of Caroll Shelby. As usuall, Three Rivers Volkswagen Club is handling the VW display and we are always looking for more cars. So bring your driver or your show VW out for a weekend of fun at the races. Best of show trophies awarded for both air and water cooled VWs.

Since 1983, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix has raised over $2 million dollars for charity. The event is free to the public to attend. All proceeds from the races, car shows, merchandise sales, and donations are all to the benefit of the Allegheny Calley School and the Autism Society of Pittsburgh. Unlike like many vintage races which are held on closed tracks, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is held on city streets in the beautiful Schenley Park. Through out the Schenley Park Golf Course you will find the International Car Show. Vehciles from every corner of the globe are represented over the course of the 10 day festival.

If you have never attended the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, I highly suggest adding it to your calendar. You won't be disappointed.

Here's the full schedule for 2011.

Calling all cars! Calling all cars! We're on the lookout for some cool VWs (both air and water cooled, stock and custom) for the 2011 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. Any one know of any cars that are able to be in Pittsburgh the weekend of July 23rd and 24th?

it wont be pretty yet, but it should/will be together. i'm going to to run it a while unfinished incase i need to move brackets and reweld anything, change designs. So aside form the necessary rust work, it will be the original paint etc on everything.

then i will tear it back do for finish work, and repaint it.

I would like to check this out. Is there any place to sit whit our cars an see the race. Also I know pets are not allowed, but is there a chance I could bring a small dog? One other thing, is there any fun laps offered to spectators an thier cars. Thanks Mike

They don't park the cars right up next to the road where the races are. The VW display usually has a nice spot that overlooks one of the turns. The track itself is public streets and the car show is held on a golf course that is in Schenley Park, so the only place to get a view of the full track is to be a bird or by helicopter. There are a few people that bring dogs, they have to be on a leash though and it is a car show with cars moving about all day, plus the noise of the race cars so the dog might get scared.

As for the fun laps. There are usually parade laps for the Marque of the Year and spotlight cars on Sunday and the patron parking folks ($500+ donations) are also allowed to take a parade lap on Sunday prior to the races getting underway. That being said. The "track" is open to the public 361 days a year, it's just not advisable to drive it at race car speeds.

Sunday was the Kickoff Rallye. 94 entries and the cut off was supposed to be 90. Here's some pics. This Saturday and Sunday are the Historics at BeaveRun and the German Car Corral (open to all cars) held at BeaveRun Raceway in Wampum PA.

Completely original and unrestored, even the tires are vintage.

And here's some shots from this past weekend's Historics at BeaveRun. This is a fairly new addition to the PVGP lineup. It allowed for us to expand the list of cars eligible for competition that were too powerful (Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros, etc) to run at speed on the city street track in Schenley Park.

This was a picture intensive weekend and post, I know. Here's the link to the rest

Thanks for uploading these pics! I thought I had charged my battery on my camera but forgot to so I only took cell pics

For how much it rained yesterday, I'd have to say I am very impressed with the turnout from yesterday. The cars yesterday were absolutely stunning and I am pumped to see some more awesome cars today, and this weekend

P.s, I can see my car in the very last picture It's a silver a4 in the very middle of the picture chilling on that side street.
