When I'm shifting the car into first or reverse (6MT) as I'm letting off the clutch and applying the accelerator I hear a weird rubbing metal noise, is this the release bearing in the clutch system???
I dont want to take it to the dealer because I know they won't here it...
Also I hear a knock from the back tire right after I hear the metal rubbing noise...
Any ideas fellow dubbers????![]()

try disengaging the auto hold and see if that helps.
also if you are at a stop and have engaged the emergency brake
button, if you are properly strapped in your seat belt, you can
drive off or reverse and the e-brake will disengage. when it does that
you will hear the e-brake release, it is a very noticeable metallic sound.

I remember when we got our 1st VW (MKV Jetta) I asked about a strange "not smooth" feeling when letting the clutch out to first get rolling. I don't remember exactly what the answer was but it had to do with the design of the pressure plates and was normal. Our CC is the exact same way.

I'm thinking you are hearing the Auto Hold release as well. If it's off and you still hear it, then I would take it in as that does not sound normal.
Good luck.

To the OP this exact thing happened to me. I took it to my dealer they said after several times of bringing it back in they said my flywheel and clutch was shot! I had to argue for my life letting them know that it was some defect my car had only 13k on it. After I pulled some connections they said they had a specialist who was coming into town and he would look at it. They determined that the flywheel may have been a defect but they wouldnt not cover the clutch. Im only 20 and obviously didnt look like a someone who was very credible so they made me pay for a new clutch at 13k and I dont launch my car cuz all it does is peel out! If your situation is the same as mine say it is 100% factory defect and both parts need to be covered! I hope you had better luck than I did.

Well I know it's not the auto hold or e brake, cos the e brake makes that transformer sound, like my car is about to turn into an auto bot... and I know its not the auto hold because its rare when I wear my seat belt, and auto hold wont engage with seat-belt not on. The reason I think its a clutch component issue is because from a complete stop I'm slowly coming off the clutch pedal and engaging the accelerator, from a complete stop, and until the clutch is fully disengaged the sound stop, same with reverse, every other gear sound good though. and Its only happening from a complete stop, but I have to do inspection and emissions at the end of the month so I guess Ill have the dealer check it out, hopefully I can get a free clutch system out of them![]()

Hmm, which is worse, not wearing a seat belt or having auto hold on, AT ALL !!!

OP, please check out the link below, it's more than likely your Throwout Bearing - get it fixed under warranty ASAP:

It definitely is the TOB, not because I took it to the dealer, but because my mechanic friend, as soon as he heard it, that's what he said it was, and then he drove it and then said he is 100% sure that's what it is, so, I get to take a trip to VW soon and get it fixed...Under Warranty Im hoping!!!!
Thanks for all your suggestions and help everyone!![]()

yeah mine started to do it as well and I'm only at 18k miles.

Damn TOBs!!!!I here that the part is fine, but annoying, and if your VW dealer/,mechanic that is going to do it under the warranty and see the slightest bit of abuse
(a little harder than everyday driving) they will charge you for dropping the trans and all that fun labor that doesn't even involve replacing the part....
So0o0o0o0o0o0o0o what I plan o do is, stock clutch kit comes for $700-$00, rather than put another stock clutch in there, I'm just going to go with southbends Stage II daily for an extra $150, and the guarantee that it will last with the chip set I'm going for.

Mine does the same thing. It only seem to happen when the car is cold though.
How the hell can you recreate this and convince the dealer to fix it?

took my car in for its 20k service and told them about this problem. they called me and said they could not duplicate the sound. I told them I want to drive with the tech so when I got there I took it for a spin in the parking lot and was able to duplicate it. then we got the shop foreman in the car and then he heard it. now its back in the air and they are taking apart the trans and calling VWOA to see if it will be covered under warranty. wish me luck.

Just brought my car in and there is a new TSB for this issue. It was just put out on 4/26. If I remember correctly they have to replace a spring assembly and something else. According to the dealership there are only 2 replacement parts in the US and I'm getting one of them.
I don't know what the TSB number is but will post it when I pick up my car tomorrow and get the invoice.
#21
Can this happen with an automatic as well? Sometimes when i backup in my car i hear a sound, it almost sounds as if the windsheild wiper was rubbing, like a rubber sound. I only hear it for a split second.

#23
Great thanks for that. Now I wonder what that sound is. Maybe it is the wiper rubbing somewhere.
#24
So the TSB is 2028783. The cause of the noise is the clutch hub spring. According to my invoice they removed and replaced the clutch assembly. So far the noise is gone and hopefully it stays that way.
