I'm trying to replace the hose that goes between the water pump and metal coolant pipe, as well as the oil cooler. The problem is, my hoses and coolant pipe don't look like this:

Instead, my coolant pipe doesn't have that T where hose 4 in the picture connects to. It has a 3 way hose that connects the water pipe to the coolant pipe and T's off to the oil cooler. Does anyone know what part number the replacement 3 way hose is for this? Any idea why my coolant pipe is different?

I tried ordering a hose off an 84 Jetta GLI that looks like this:

It's close, but it's not quite right. It's a straight shot between the water pump and pipe and a little too long, whereas the right hose seems to need a slight bend in it. Is this the right hose, and I just can't figure it out??

    The car is a 1992 GTI 16v.

Thanks for any help, this is driving me nuts!

Never had a GTI, only had GLIs, but I thought they were almost the same. Send a photo, you do have hose #7 right?

Well, to further complicate things, I can't seem to find the original hose. The car's been a long term project, and it's been a few years (yes, I am embarrassed to admit that), so I'm not sure where I threw the damn thing.

To answer your question, there doesn't seem to be a hose 7 on my car.

Hose in the bottom pic, "from GAP", is for mk1 GTI, GLI & 84&up cabby. It may work for you but depends on the Diameter of your metal pipe as the mk1 used a smaller diameter.

037121058 is the hose you need, but expensive.

metal pipe was same diameter, the connection at the water pump IS NOT the same, mk2 got a bigger connection at the WP..

16V Should have a larger diameter Coolant Pipe than the 84 8V GLI.
'92 16V should also have the larger outlets on the WP housing.

it is indeed different, but larger in diameter? nope.. ive got a 16v block sitting close by, and it has that hose still attached.. its not any bigger than even the old 1977 diesel rabbit coolant pipe..

You are correct, the hose in the bottom pic is from a Mk1 GTI/GLI. You are also correct in that the diameter of the metal pipe in my Mk2 is indeed bigger than that hose intended for a Mk1. The water pump side seems to be the correct size.

Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll have to order it and just see if it's the right part!

Also, it is interesting that I looked up that part number at Impex World, and the pictured part is different from the Autohaus pic. Any idea about the discrepancy?

Just wanted to update real quick. The part that vwpieces linked to is the correct part. I ordered it from Autohaus AZ (very quick shipping) on Monday, received it today, and installed it today. Fits perfectly.

During my debacle, I searched the forums for information and found some threads with the same problem, with no resolution. I'm just updating in case anyone else happens to search for the same thing and needs an answer.

Thanks so much for the help, everyone, especially vwpieces.

    Welcome, glad to help out.

Recently built & installed a 2.0 16V in a mk1 Jetta. My metal pipe had the extra fitting so I was lucky to be able to use the $5 hose, pipe to cooler & the $5 hose, pump to pipe. However the larger diameter pipe requires a reducer to the heater hose, $25 for a 1.5in long piece of rubber (16V scirocco)...

I think the reason they are different is because of three reasons:
    1. model year differences by vin, i e part updates
    2. Whether or not the engine was equipped with a/c, as this determines whether or not you have a coolant to oil cooler or not...(you dont need that hose in one instance)
    3. and finally, any PO carquest parts used to get home etc...
I have a corrado g60, vr6, and three Mk 2s, including a synchro, and they all have slight variations on that hose you had problems with. Several times ive had that exact hose explode on me and had to repair it on the road.....Not a fun experience.... Good luck, Have fun and keep it at 4k!

You mean the crack pipe to oil cooler hose? I don't have the part number, but German Auto has them. What year? Looks like they made a change in mid 91.

Thanks for making this thread and updating it... I'm redoing my cooling system, and just ran into the same issue with that 3-way hose (pump-cooler-pipe). I couldnt find that part, and I was wondering wtf was wrong with my car ('91 16v GTI). Thanks
