nice work, keep it up

Forgot to mention all the custom motor mount fabrication etc for the actual engine! I'm sure I have some pictures up somewhere, I'll find them and post them up tomorrow.

Finally got the exterior almost semi-done! I realized I'm not going to be able to use the sideskirts though (wheels stick out too much so I had to shave the fender arches a bit) , so I don't really know what to do with the cabby bumper nowProbably cut the bumper a bit? Any suggestions?
Took her out for a drive without a windshieldEverything works very smooth. Tried giving it a little more boost and the intercooler hoses popped right off! Gotta fix that. Rokkor coilovers not as stiff as I imagined either. Audi 100 and another Jetta in the back
Hopefully I can finish up the interior and more little bits soon. I'll be sure to update![]()

nice work dude, did you water test the rear window? I think with some of the seals your supposed to set the seal in first, like wrap the window frame, then drop the glass in the rubber gasket. There is 2 or 3 types of windows they used with mk1's go figure.
if its broken, fix it. then break it again.

you need to get wheels that fit or smaller tires so you can pull off that look. offset is all wrong.
interested in seeing the clipper kit on the jetta so make it happen!

Hi everyone!
Updates are coming:
Yes I've kind of finished it. Still has lots of little things to be done though. I'll post up some more less artsy pictures later.
I've driven around 15,000 miles so far on the motor, and not a single thing has gone wrong. (It's been my daily driver for some quite time now ) Driving up and down I-95 from Charlottesville, VA to Philly.
I went to THE MAN, Jeff at Rocketchip. I put in some larger injectors (way too big for stock turbo) and he set me up with an RC3 tune. Putting down around 150 hp, 300 ft/lb's of torque. Later had to get my fuel pump rotated to spec with VAG-COM and he did it for free, super great guy.
Some small issues:
1. Rubbing. My god what was I thinking with the wheels sticking out like that
2. Suspension. The Rokkors are terrible. Absolutely terrible, I have nothing nice to say about them other than that they work and they've held up pretty well so far for 15,000 miles. They are way too stiff and bouncy for a daily driver. Looking for some lowering springs and Bilstein Sports/Koni Yellows. Also need a front sway bar.
3. A little too much overfueling with the injectors I went with for the TDI. I believe I have the PP764's. On the stock turbo they smoke a little too much, and the fuel economy has been MEH because of that. (Ok 42mpg still isn't bad, but I want more) Thinking of getting smaller injectors or even going back to stock ones.
4. Sparco's with 4 pt seatbelts not the most comfortable things in the world. Picked up some Mark 2 Jetta GLI Recaros to be put in along with normal seatbelts.
Mechanically though, SURPRISINGLY, everything has been PEREFCT. I'm really happy the Jetta turned out exactly how I wanted it to haha.
Changes to come:
Euro bumpers
Wheel Flares
New Rims with lower offset. (Anyone wanna trade their high offset phonedials for my low offset ones?)
Suspension
Finish interior.
DYNAMAT DYNAMAT DYNAMAT. Wanna keep it nice and quiet in the cabin.
New Grill and Headlights
New Seats
Maybe put on a muffler, straight pipe right now, teensy bit too loud.
Holes on the hood are because the intercooler wouldn't fit in front of the AC condenser and I had no where else to put it. Those who saw it at H2O got the explanation already hehe. Surprisingly the intercooler up top with the holes in the hood manages to cancel heat soak, and works really goodI promise I'll put up more pictures of how I finished the car a little later on.

Rather than some lower offset wheels, why don't you get smaller tires? Those things are huge and you hacked off the fender lips to run them...
#52
Is that power level possible on a stock turbo? Those nozzles are way larger than I see most people running... how much is a "little" smoke? I smoke a little at full throttle running Sprint 520s and a tune on my 1Z.
Either way, great job. I especially like the fact that you retained the AC.

it seems like those phone dials are 16x7... if you run a 195/40/16 that will greatly help your problem
i hope they are also the ET65 ones... the ET52.3 aren't as friendly with adaptors
looks great so far
post some more pics![]()

I'd get smaller tires but then I wouldn't get any traction :/ That and I'm scared driving around at higher speed on stretched and really low-pro tires. I feel like they can pop at any second haha. I really like taking turns fast and appreciating the performance of the car so I always thought 45's would be better. I probably could have went with 40's though.
The PP764's weren't my first choice, but they were having a sale on Kerma, so I just went ahead and bought them. Jeff @ Rocketchip said he would be able to tune the nozzles down to run at the same flow as the 520's, but there's still a lot of smoke haha. I smoke a little basically even on partial throttle, and at WOT it's a biblical cloud of black smoke when I look in the rear-view mirror.
The phone dials are the early offset 15x7 ET23.3
The smallest adapters for 5x130 to 4x100 I found at the time were 20 mm, so the offset of the wheels currently is 3.3 all around haha. Wasn't the brightest thing to do.
Pics are coming, stay tuned.

With the little tweaks you are going to do, this should be real nice.![]()

Here's the intercooler setup that I went with. With the radiator and AC Condenser in, it was impossible to fit the intercooler in front of them. So the only other way to go was top mount. I honestly think it came out pretty cool, and it fits perfectly. As you can see in the previous photos with the small holes in the hood, the air goes through them from the outside and through the intercooler during driving. So far temperatures and down and everythings working as it should. Created a little bar to mount and rested the intercooler on top of it. (Intercooler and piping is from eBay)
Another angle.
Fitting the Mark 3 dash onto the swapped firewall, and everything matches up like it should. You can see where we cut the dash on the right to make it fit inside the chassis. I still haven't come up with an idea on what to do about the battlescar where it was cut. I was thinking of recovering the whole dash, but I'm worried it'll start coming off eventually and look like ass. Any suggestions?
Wiring for audio and other things being finalized.
Fitting the door cards.
Fit the Sparco R100's in, and attached harness's to rollbar. Finalized interior. (swapping the sparco's out for Recaro trophy's)
Trunk area is still naked, don't know how to cover everything in there yet.
Next step in stripping the whole interior again, and dynamatting the **** out of everything to cut down on noise.
If I find any more pictures, I'll post them up.

curious what you did to make the ac compressor fit in the mk1 chassis. Any pictures?
#60
I had to carve out a piece of the chassis to fit the compressor, sorry it took so long for a reply.
Decided to make some few updates to the car before waterfest. Pics will be uploaded soon.

I actually completely redid the car since I posted in this thread haha. I may be able to find some pictures of the transformation.
Some reverse rake with the Eibach Sportline springs sadly, doesn't look too bad though.
I've got more somewhere, these were from waterfest.
I did away with the Sparcos, and put in some nice redone mk2 gli recaros. Stock seatbelts too.

How much did you have to cut out of the dash? could you put a dimple dash in from a cabrio, from what i understand its a bit narrower. Love your wheels!
#65
Yup its a dimple dash in from a cabrio already inside there. It was about 4 inches I had to cut out. Still don't really know what to do with where I glued the two pieces though haha. Maybe some kind of trim or fabric.

Nice job on the wheels and stock style grille. Holy headlights!

I'm planning to put a mk3 dash in my caddy as well. Could you go into more detail on the fitting and cutting process? How much to cut, where, etc.
