I think it's exactly that. And the creepy factor is a subtle homage to "the best laid plans of mice and men" meaning, the designers engineered in a more human-like emotional parameter, but in execution it is actually a failure because it is so odd.

The same theme will probably be part of the film. Man isn't quite to the capacity to muck about w/what they find, but out of curiosity, pride, greed, etc. a real problem explodes.

Since we're on the topic of "reference movies", here's a spin on that from the directorship point of view. If you haven't seen Blade Runner - watch it. Scott directed it and some of the android/human/playing god themes are played out exquisitely.

Disagree on the 3rd. IMO it is closer in spirit to the 1st than the 2nd which is closer to the 4th.

Agreed on that one. Alien 3 very dark and claustrophobic, just like the first one. It is also full of very well developed characters which we would get so used to expect from David Fincher in his later works.

I really need to re-watch this film as it's been a while.

What was that snake like flayed creature that strike that one dude. I don't understand why people would literally sit there and observe it at such a close distance. If I was observing it would be well over minimum 6-7 meters away not at less than a meter away common sense damn those horror movies where people are complete lack of common sense but than again it is a movie. Also what the hell was melting that guy top portion of his helmet acid of some sort?

this should be good... hopefully I can pick up the blu ray alien anthology set before the movie comes out. I've seen them all multiple times(well except for resurrection) but I don't own any of them!

    btw, aliens>predator

OH! I beg to differ. The Drak Knight beats them both by far as far as action, hell he'd even kick both there asses (alien & predator) now as far as John Mclain....I don't think anybody or anything wants to F with him.

well, I think it's being noticed that it's not gonna be like most of the superhero movies out...especially this summer. watching the trailers you would think it was a tragedy themed movie. very depressing to watch actually.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it but the musical score in those trailers is ****ing phenomenal.

Watched Alien again last night, it's just a superb film. Even if you've watched it a million times and the suspense is sort of done, you can still get lost in the attention to detail and craftsmanship.
You think I ain't worth a dollar, but I feel like a millionaire.

Sadly, it's not the score from the film. It's music from "Sarajevo"

I guess it's common (required?) for trailers to use mash-ups of other music.

Apart from the rating issue, I think the one thing the fanboys are worried about the most is the score -- I guess Mark Streitenfeld isn't a favorite of anybody. Peeps weren't reassured when a few weeks ago, Harry Gregson Williams indicated on his blog that he was writing additional music for the soundtrack...

Lols I don't watch too many movies- should I check out the Sarajevo soundtrack?

The music makes that trailer. Usually music does that for movies.
