    Not a whole lot.

The extra features has commentary on some of the scenes with the "engineer" they woke up that explain some stuff. They also show the deleted opening scene with some commentary why it was deleted.

I still watched the movie thinking"these are some of the dumbest smart people" ever!

Like the scientist that keeps messing with the animal in an obvious defensive posture?

Or the map guy that can't read a goddamned map?

Or deciding to electrocute a dead alien's brain for absolutely no goddamned reason?

I have not seen it yet (did not read the thread as I did not want any spoilers) but I just saw a review on Attack of the Show where the critic (Chris Gore) said he left the theater hating the movie. It was not until it came out on DVD and watched the deleted scenes that he liked it because it explains the motivations of some of the characters.

My criticism of these critics regarding not only Prometheus but other movies as well, is that they like to have plot explanations and character motivations spoon-fed to them within the runtime of the film. I think that's why a lot of people came out of theaters saying "WTF did I just watch" or "It sucked because I didn't get anything". Understanding the whole picture (Alien universe) as well as using some imagination to explore the unstated possibilities of the plot background and direction is part of Prometheus' appeal and mystique for me at least.

may sound a bit bogus and patronizing, but hey, that's how I see it

Its funny, I watched my 7 year old boy play trucks with a bunch of neighborhood kids yesterday. As they played and their active imagination got going, they would just make stuff up as they went along. Several times they would get to a point during play and would just make something up to keep things moving along. At one point, my son’s dump truck fell off a cliff but wasn’t crushed. When another boy asked how could that happen, my son made up a great tail and explained the “why” and the “how” and they continued to play on. It sounded good and the other kids bought it. He made a dump truck falling off a cliff but surviving work.

I was one of those described as being a “hater” of the movie because I lacked imagination. Both of those statements are correct. It was almost like I was being told I couldn’t intellectually grasp the film because I thought it wasnt good. I see we basically have two camps for this movie. Those that hate it and those that think it was this very deep intellectual cinematic experience and love it. Those that hate it point out the numerous holes and issues with plot and characters. Those that love it, defend the film and the holes with far reaching but very imaginative explanations. When I look back at this post and the back and forth conversations contained within, I see a trend. Just like my son and his boys playing trucks, I am just not in a place where I want to make stuff up to make this film work or like it. To me, this film is a lot like dump truck falling off a cliff and I just don’t want to make the holes in the script survive like my son did his truck. No, I don’t want to see Transformers or any other dumb summer blow things up movie, but simply didn’t like the movie.

What this means, is that the people who defend the movie do so with the intellectual debate skills of a 7 year old.

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to speed around the city, keeping its speed over fifty, and if its speed dropped, the bus would explode! I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

Watched it the other night on demand.
Overall I thought it was pretty good. I thought the whole "mysterious black goo is responsible for everything" was a bit weak.

It's biological warfare. Much like how Weyland Corp. was always trying to get their grubby little hands on a specimen for military warfare back on earth. The engineers were doing the same thing with Alien xenomorph DNA. They were like giant alien space Nazis!

The xenomorphs were created through the use of the black goo. Not the other way around.

Then why the homage to them in the murals on the ceiling and the polished panel?

I assume that the Engineers had contact with the goo before and knew of it's dangers. They knew it was deadly as they were going to use it to wipe out life on earth and it clearly got loose and killed everyone not in cryoostasis on the ship, but I'm not convinced that the goo itself came from the xenomorphs. I could be wrong, but like I said, I thought the whole black goo thing was kind of a weak way to explain everything regardless of where it originated.

Yeah, I didn't mean that the goo came from the xenos either, just a bi-product of their research on them like how Weyland Corp was looking to do. Remember in Alien Resurrection all of the DNA blunders that Weyland made of Ripley. The engineers made a DNA bio weapon.

That is exactly why I hate this movie, why the eff do we have to watch deleted scenes on the dvd to see the explanations of the character's motives? Those are things that should just be in the film

How can you hate the movie just because you don't understand it ? I mean, it's like reading the book... if you didn't get it first time, just read it again and see if it makes more sense.

Same with this film, I watched it again a couple of days ago and everything seemed a lot more straight forward, compared to when I watched in the theatre.

I find it strange that someone equates others to being 7yo's when they clearly can't comprehend what they watch.
