    Piece of **** factory speakers

Remove fiber molding and handle bracket.

U will see screws remove them

    drill those rivets on speakers.

solder 10" wire to new speaker terminals

cut off harnes on speaker or find the way to do it. and solder to new speaker wire that u already soldered .(watch that positive and negative line)

NOTE: dont purchase any speaker more than 50watt. your stereo is not that powerfull and u wont get strong bass . all speakers size are 6.5" . I hope it helps

Thanks alot for the tutorial, I've been waiting for someone to find the speaker sizes so I can replace mine.
Are the front door and A pillars easy as well, and what are those sizes?

Do you remember/know what type of mounting depth the doors allow.
Also how much room is between the speaker and the door speaker grille.
I'm about to order some 2 ways & 3/4 tweeters with crossovers.

On topic question...what are the openings beside the door handles on the back doors?
There's no speakers in the opening inside, it's just open.

I edited a few minutes after so yeah I know, but the rear looks like speaker grilles and that's the return air.
But yeah I would like to know the mounting depth of these so when I order they will fit.

Thanks for the info, My MB Quarts have a 2 3/4 mounting depth so that's a no go...more searching now!

Is there room in the opening at the top of the door (beside the door handle) for a 3/4" tweeter?
If so a 6 1/2" component setup would be nice, if the crossover will fit inside the door.

did the same thing you did with those tweeters. unfortuantly on the left rear the door panel fell down and ripped out the wires from the tweeter. luckily i bought two sets lol.
    sounds good!

i installed a single din (with pocket) Kenwood KDC-HD942U that i got for cheap off of my brother. has full DSP processing, usb, aux, hd radio, bluetooth, don't know what else i would need tbh

  17. 02-24-2012 11:47 AM #17
I just think that the double would look nice I'm just timid to go out and drop money without doin a lil research. I wanna be sure that I can do it myself. I don't imagine it's all just plug and play. And I can't seem to find any tutorials on stereo upgrades in the mk6's

^^^that, and also if you can afford it, get a double DIN! You're right, it looks way better, but for $200 for the headunit, Connects2, dash kit, and wiring.. i just couldn't pass it up

  21. 02-24-2012 11:46 PM #21
Yea I ordered the dash kit and have been looking at a few kenwoods. Other than the dash kit what else does it take to install one?

  22. 02-29-2012 08:16 AM #22
Ok so I have the dash kit the wire harness and the antenna adapter but what up with all this stuff I'm reading about the can bus. I need to buy something to convert to 12v or w.e? Anyone have info on this?

you can buy the converter if you want but i didn't run the switched power wire on your harness to the positive side of the 12 volt outlet. its switched power.

Thank you for your input. Very clever. Is it hard to run the wire down to the outlet? If I could avoid having to buy a converter Im pretty muh ready for install.

I had my buddy who owns an audio shop install the stereo for me but really all you gotta do is get a splice and tap into the cig lighter and run a wire up i mean the distance is very minimal so i can't see it beig too difficult.

if you want to maintain steering wheel controls, illumination/backlight settings, and other stuff like that you will need to get the canbus interface dongle thing. it's kind of expensive, but in the end i think it's worth it to do the installation properly!

I installed the double din last night in about 45 mins all I needed was the dash, antenna adapter and the harness. I wired it to the outlet like recommended and grounded the parking break wire so I have VIM (video in motion). The unit itself is very nice and I love the touchscreen. It was 100 times easier than I thought it was gonna be. Thank you everyone who gave me info

just some info for those installing different speakers in front doors; vw now uses pressure sensors for airbag crash sensors. if the new speaker is not sealed, your side air bags may not go off in a side collision. thats why the new doors are so perfectly sealed. also might cause water leaks if the speaker is not sealed.

also for sound quality i recommend sealing them. used dum dum and they sealed up perfect. i think it holds better than the rivets lol

This definitely explains why my front door speaker installation resulted in an airbag light. What do you guys recommend to remedy this?

How would a simple seal be noticed?

lol it wont cause your airbag light to come on. when a car t-bones you, the sensor will measure the pressure change in the door cavity.

did you unplug any airbag components when doing the install with the key on? that will cause your light to stay on.

I read through this thread, watched the video and I was all gung-ho to get some nice speakers and install them. Until I got to the bottom where there was mentions of the side airbags not working if the door isn't replaced/sealed properly... What is needed to be done exactly to make sure my airbags will still work? Its not worth sacrificing my safety for a bit better audio.

It seems they stopped manufacturing dum dum putty, so what alternatives do you guys recommend?

Also for installing an aftermarket stereo, what is the antenna adapter you need and wiring harness? All the ones on amazon say they don't fit my vehicle, but I'm guessing thats just lieing. Planning on going for a x940bt.
