Grey Goose is disgusting and overpriced imo. Although saying this is cliche, this is THE smoothest vodka I've ever had:

Zubrowka with sugar free apple juice is the way to go!
Belvedere
Effen

Three Olives Chocolate with Three Olives Cherry is good as well.

My wife buys Pinnacle brand whipped cream flavored vodka that is delicious, though I'm sure it is frowned upon for actual vodka drinkers.
On another note, "NutLiquor" made me lol at my desk at work.![]()

my favorite brands of Vodka?
Kettle One & Tonic with a lime twist.
neat, simple, delicious.
as well as Stoli, one of the most underpriced, great tasting smooth vodkas
I do love my grey goose martinis as well as if im going to drink a drink neat.
extra dirty and extra olives please!

I LOVE that Pinnacle stuff. At first I thought, "wow .. whipped cream flavored vodka? Seriously?" Then I tasted it. Majorly yummy! It really doesn't taste like whipped cream to me. More just like very sweet vodka that covers up a lot of the unpleasant taste that lower end vodka typically has.
The chocolate one is decent too. But the whipped cream version is by far my favorite.

Used to really like Ketel, which I dont consider 'obscure.' Now I mainly stick to Effen.

I tend to think Vodka is yet another example of Russia's failings, but Chopin potato vodka is about as good as rubbing alcohol can get. I do like Gin though.

That stuff is excellent, I'm a huge wine and beer guy, and while I don't get into Vodka much, Boyd and Blair rocks. They're local to me and have only been open a few years, but apparently Spirit Journal ranked them as the #1 Vodka in the world and the 22nd best liquor.

When I'm making dirty martinis, I alternate between Stolichnaya and Chopin potato vodka. Chopin is from the same company that produces Belevedere. They have very different flavors.
I find that a lot of the ultra-premium vodka on the market is so over-filtered that it doesn't taste like anything. Grey Goose is the poster child for this. I can buy $7.00/1.75L plastic jug vodka and push it through a filter if I want vodka that doesn't taste like anything.
When I'm using vodka in mixed drinks, I tend to use mass market Smirnoff.

Thought I'd bump this thread.
I did a taste test the other day with Goose, Effen, Belvedre, and Ketel One.
I'm now done with my goose obsession
I bought the Black Cherry flavor and it was quite good. Very smooth. Little to no burn. I also liked Ketel 1 also. Belvedre wasn't bad. Not as good as Goose though.
Looking for Chopin and Tito's next.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone![]()

pinnacle is pretty good for the price, but if i had to recommend a certain vodka it would be kettle one or titos is amazing

Ketel One as the 'every day' always-have-it around vodka ..
but for nice stuff, a local distillery makes some really great straight and infused vodkas
http://www.hangarone.com/
Hangar One Vodka.
The Kaffir lime makes some really nice mixed drinks, and the special they had last year, a Chipoltle infusion, was brilliant over ice.
I even did a quick video on the iPhone when we toured the distillery a year or two back (they make a really good whiskey too .. )

Titos or Monopolowa.
Although, I'm not much of a Vodka person...I don't get the US's fascination with it.

i usually stick with svedka...but this is probably due to the fact that a local store sells 750ml bottles for $13 and im in college sooo yea.![]()

LIV, is a Long Island Vodka made with Long Island potatos. If your into the spud vodka check this one out. If your on LI check out the distillary for tours and tastings, fun times. breaks up the monotony of the wine tours!

The OYO distillery is near my house in downtown Cbus
I'm a huge pu$$y and can't drink vodka neat, but this stuff has a very smooth and unique flavor, unlike most other vodkas, and is very sippable

The OP specifically wanted "obscure" vodka. I would have to recommend 360 (http://www.vodka360.com) I had some at a bartender's suggestion in Kansas City, and found it in a local store recently. Their chocolate vodka is fun, too.
For the standards:
- Kirkland (Costco) brand is pretty much private-lable Grey Goose at a huge discount.
- Ketel One is my name-brand preference for martinis.
- I wouldn't dare use Absolut for a martini, but it's fine for mixed drinks.
- I've had Belvedere and Chopin, but it was a long time ago and don't remember enough to have an opinion.
- I dated an alcoholic who consumed VAST amounts of Stolichnaya, and claimed anything else gave her a headache
I have't touched Stoli since 1999 as a result.
