I wanna see what you do in the front end for modifying the subframe pick-up points and control arms.
Well there will be two different versions of the front end. First one will have the stock pick up points with custom adjustable control arms. The arms will be adjustable for track width and castor. The ball joints on the mkIII knuckles will be moved out as far as possible to alter my scrub radius.

The second setup will be later down the road. It will include a tubular subframe and very similar control arms. It will also be adjustable for antidive.

Castor adjustment would change where the wheel sits in the well, if adjusted at the bottom, correct?

If you need dimensions for a tubular subframe, I believe USRT has drafts / plans for one. Another item I'd love to have made; even just to use OEM control arms in, would be very cool.

Correct. Adjusting it in the top also effects how it sits in the wheel well, its just alot less movement.

Ah I get it now, took a bit of mulling about in my head to picture it. Interesting for sure.

I can finally go and pick up my running gear (mk3 GL components). $200 for everything; not bad.

Post up a pic of that other beam you have that you say is wider and has an internal torsion bar. I'll compare it to what I get (and my own, also from an early base model) to see what the one you have is.

The parts im pointing to, bracing and sway bar, are the parts my beam does not have.

What are everyone's thoughts on these? I may make some.

    http://www.lellaautosport.com/vw_mk3..._bushings.html

Pair of Delrin Competition Bushings for the Rear Axle Beam.

These Delrin bushings are designed to eliminate the unwanted flexing inherent in the stock rubber bushings. Allowing less flexing and geometry changes, Delrin bushings will increase the stiffness and response of your cars handling, by maintaing your alignment settings during cornering.

These are ideal for someone looking to increase the response of their car but at a fraction of the cost of monoball bushings as well as for race cars where the class rules do not permit monoball bushings.

I want those for my rear beam; I also want them for the front control arm but nobody makes them for that position..

So I designed some rear beam bushings. I was not in love with the solid bushings. I think that due to the way the beam is designed the bushings will need some axial deflection built in, so this is what I came up with.

The outer portion is Delron, the mid portion is a very high durometer rubber, and the inner is a stainless sleeve.

The rubber is very stiff, approx the same stiffness as poly. The sleeve effectively increases the diameter so there is more surface area on the rubber. The more surface area the less likely it is to elongate the hole causing play in the bushing.

So I have no idea if these will work as good or better than anything else out there, but im going to give it a try.

Mmm, now that looks very interesting. The Delrin shouldn't deform at all (like poly would).

Made an aluminum NACA duct in an attempt to get some cool fresh air to the carbs and hopefully cut down on a little heat soak.

My plan: run the ducting along the underside of the hood. 3" brake duct from the fender vent to the carb intake area. This would keep the bay looking shaved, but allow for more fresh air. I do also plan to shave the hood vents (and am planning to raise the rear hood mounts 1/3" or so).
Also - that extra beam you have is Mk3. I'm skipping it, gonna brace my Mk2 beam a little more and run that. Will allow more room for wheel positioning (especially w/ your plates that have the 4 different hub mount options).

Oh if that last picture is unclear, I made a brass shifter weight. Its pretty damnable heavy and goes against my addiction to lightening everything, but hopefully it will make the tranny less notchy and more smooth.

Also got some super slick fully synthetic gear oil that should cut down on some drag in the tranny. I just hope it plays nice with the synchro's.

Shifter-wise, I plan to get the whole shebang from Missing Linkz. And yeah, having the weight there makes a huge (positive) difference.

    Intake manifold version 3.0

exhaust is finished. With 2 mufflers this time and a test pipe for the cat. Sounds nice.

and its back on the ground. Alternator is shot though. Bearing falure. Alt has about 200 miles on it. What a piece of junk. I guess thats what I get though for buying something meant for a ford.

and new drop plates version 4.0

Got rid of the rear wiper. Not sure what im going to do with the sprayer yet.

took a bicycle brake cable and made a choke cable with it. Sometimes cold starts would be a bitch. Not anymore.

New strut top design. This will allow castor adjustment also. I'm wanting to add some.

took it for a drive today and lost a rear bearing cap. What to do? Make some from aluminum of course.

carbon fiber mufflers caught on fire and the car went up in flames. Luckily I had an extinguisher and put the fire out relatively quick.

That would have been very disappointing had you not had a fire extinguisher on hand. how much damage?
