For those of you that have done restoration on you rabbits and have chrome trim around the windows on your two door, where did you get the lower scraper seals with the groove that accomodated the chrome door trim? I can find the top ones just not the bottom ones.

Already checked mk1 autohaus, vintage rubber, bus depot, and all the other sites i found doin the vortex search.

Please let me know if you have a source for these! Thanks!

UPDATE: What I've learned from my own experience...

For those who want to know so they can search this topic and avoid all the stupid sh*t this thread dug up, here are the facts:

Rabbits came in two options, 1 had chrome trim around the windows and one did not. The seals for each trim model are different. For the door seals the seals have a special groove to accept the chrome trim around the windows.

For models with no chrome trim:

Swapping opposite inner scrapers to outers works just fine

For models with chrome trim, since the OE replacement outer scrapers are no longer available there are a couple options:

Cabriolet scrappers with the groove for chrome trim WILL work for 4-door rabbits with some trimming but are NOT long enough for 2-door rabbits

Vanagon seals with work with a little trimming and although hard to find still pop up no and again on vanagon specific sights. I was able to find a set on westcoastmetric.com.

Good luck and ignore all the useless sh*t in the rest of this thread

I have all sorts of **** for sale.. but I'm keeping the nut. I'm a pimp like that.

Window scrapers did not come with chrome trim at all that I have ever seen... The chrome trim is on the the window channel, but not the scraper itself.

Want to buy some carbs instead?

EDIT: duh... re-read it. I pulled mine from a 1990 cabriolet in the junk yard. they can be trimmed if need be.... pull the inners and put them outside on their opposing sides.....

    Wanna buy a megajolt setup?

Was excited to see the thread bumped, however upon opening realized that not a single comment was useful. Thanks guys, it was a serious question Also in this section and not the classifieds because i want people who have restored every inch of their rabbit to respond.

The outer scrapers have a special groove in it that allows it to seal flush to the chrome trim. If it didn't then i would swap the opposing inner scrapers to the outside, but this is not the case. They are NLA and the point of this thread is to see if anyone is hoarding some or had a lead on where i could find some

Just found some in case any one else is wondering

Westcoastmetric.com has them and they don't say out of stock. I'm ordering a set now so hopefully they have them. A Little pricey but they should last a while

I was talking about the original post... no, not for a four door, but irocZ girl is right, you can trim them.

trimming is a great way to ruin them. would prefer, as most an straight OEM replacement, if flipping four door scrapers works. then it shall be

FTW? Yeah, if you use a butter knife. Restoring a 78 rabbit with chrome trim currently. Vanagan scrapers are the same length as 2 door rabbit scrapers. I can't believe how unhelpful people are on this forum. "Chrome" trim isn't stainless....it's aluminum. If you still need help in finding the scrapers, let me know privately.

    lol...

flipping them works on all the mk1s, they are the same shape inside and out, and the inside ones are in better shape usually. I'm sure it'd be nice to not have to trim them, but a nice sharp set of tin snips will do, and you can reshape anything distorted and file a radius on the corner, no one will be able to tell if you use a bit of finesse.

I love all the arguing over what the trim is made of... I think dude is right, since mine were all oxidized white....like aluminum would be. The gutter trims are stainless, as are the wheel arches, and side trim.

Who gives a **** what you call it really? We all know what is meant... And SS contains chromium so neener neener.

wow...looks like i posted this in the mk3 forums
