IMO it will never pass. What people need to realize is until you come up with a REAL reason to eliminate the front plate it's not going anywhere.

If you want to get rid of the front plate you just need to get 250000 signatures and proof that eliminating the front plate is going to SAVE the State money, or save lives or lower crime, you know some thing easy like that.

It's an unusual vehicle and I think I confused the gal on the phone. . .hehe

I'll give you a call on Wednesday.
I really wish everyone would update their location in their profile!

No, it's still required, and it will probably be required until the WSP stops issuing tickets...

Selling our R32 tomorrow, we have custom plates on it and they are staying with us. What does the purchaser need so he can legally drive the car until he can get to the licensing office to get his temp plates? Would a trip permit work?

He needs a trip permit and insurance.

Also, when he goes to the DOL to register, they'll give him new plates (not temporary ones).

You will need to get a hold of the owner, the only thing that OR will accept on a Washington tilted car is a title...

fill out this form to find out the owners name and address

    http://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/224002.pdf

then send a letter explaining that you have lost the title and would they be willing to help you get a new title.

Ok, I have a few questions for this thread.

My Saab 900 is a 1987. It's now 2012. 2012 - 1987 = 25. I now qualify for collector car status, correct? Or is it "over" 25 years in the state of WA? Does it matter when it was built, or just the model year?

Second, the car is not currently registered. Someone told me before that the car had to be currently registered, then it could be "switched over" to collector status. Is this true? The whole reason that I want the collector status (besides not having to run a front plate) is that it doesn't pass emissions. (In its present state it actually doesn't even run, but we'll table that for the time being ) I'm sure you can see the catch-22 here.

    Help?

I think '87s are free and clear now (2012) as far as emissions go.

Car has got to be 30 years old to get collector plates, and then you can not use it except for collector purposes...

Commercial purposes or to carry a load.
Regular transportation in the manner of a fully licensed vehicle.

A friend of mine moved down here from ak a few years ago and needs to renew his license now. His jetta is currently registered in am and if he transfers the title to down here it's going to cost him $600 is there any way he can transfer it to aw title without paying the $600 I realize this is kinda shistey but $600 is over half of what the car is worth haha.

    Thanks

So here is a question, how many vehicles can you buy and sell in washington state, before the state want you to obtain a dealer or wholesalers license?

If you are buying vehicles with the intent of selling them, they want you to have a dealers license regardless of number, but generally they say 6 in a 12 month period.

Why is it so much? Is the car not in his name yet?
A passenger vehicles that has been registered in your name for more than 90 days in another state is exempt from sales/use tax and Tabs/Title on a passenger vehicle is about 95-105 plus RTA tax if you live within the RTA boundaries...

If you are active duty non resident military or student, you can license your vehicle in your home of record, but you are still subject to Washington sales/use tax if you are living in Washington.

I'd love to see it pass, similar to in other states.

If you are interested, the only thing I can think of to help is to send some support to the Senator and Representative that are sponsoring it. I did. Maybe it makes a difference...?

perhaps I should have phrased it as: the taxpayers save 1.2 million

You are correct. This subject is absolutely not about saving taxpayers money, it is about securing triple digit incomes for a multitude of individuals to decide a $10M footbridge is a good idea..

Ok, no more politics. Just frustrated.

Late fees are going up to $50 the first day and up to $125 max, so try to transfer your titles within 15 days!

xOphear, I've got a quick registration question for you. I'm active duty military stationed at JBLM and currently deployed to Afghanistan. I purchased a new GTI through a tax free military sales program. When I go to register the car in July, will I have to pay WA state sales tax? Thanks man.

Yes, regrettably you will have to pay sales tax when you first register it. The tax rate will be base on the address you use on the purchase price on your purchase order. If you IM me the info and your address I can run a price for you, so you won't be too shocked!

No, but you should still file a Seller Report!
