God damnit, i can't get this thing to fire. Harness is missing something. I intentionally didn't even cut this one down first, and i've got no ecu talking to me.

Fuel, crank, spark, and compression, no start. I'll get a whole harness at the junkyard tomorrow if i have to. So tired of this thing not running.....

Yea, i'm confused. I don't feel like it should be doing any combination, of throttle body adapting, priming, and sparking if the ecu isn't on. It's not even trying to kick though....

And no communication....gotta be something in the wires. Whatever. Grrrrrr.

    Still no communication.

    BUT.

    I've got injector pulse.

I've got spark before the cap, but not after.

    ...

    .....

    seriously?

The cap and rotor aren't brand new, but they look fine. I'll get new ones tomorrow and see what's up.

    vr's are easier....

Keep it going brother, you got lots o' rocco heads cheering for ya! With all this fuss about it not running, there had at least be a video when it does. Good luck!

I picked up new cap, rotor, and wires today. I'll give it a shot.

Edit: nope! My buddy that i got to check spark for me last night(while i was cranking) evidently wasn't telling me that the spark off the coil is really unconvincing. Looks like it's junkyard harness time. Something's amiss with this ecu wiring.

There will be lots of video!

Not sure if I mentioned that I have the NOS fogger kit from my Jetta for sale, bottle is nearly full. Lots of extra jets, custom hose, etc. I'll give you a fine deal.

PS your project is farther along than mine.

Hey Bruce! Thanks for the offer, but i've already got a zex smartbox wet kit that I picked up really cheaply awhile back.

This thing's been on hold for awhile. I basically decided that i need another harness, but i've had to really step up my working game to make ends meet here lately. I'm doing mechanical sidework all hours of the night on top of teaching elementary music now. The car's mechanically finished, and it's just killing me seeing the p.o.s. sit there.

At least you're working. Sucks teachers don't get paid enough to live on but we continue to expect more. Thankless job for sure.

Have you thought about picking up a new motorcycle fuse box and harness? I had a buddy recommend that to me after he was looking at the 45 year old rats nest in my car.

  20. 08-25-2011 11:01 AM #125
Well, since your sacrificing a Scirocco for this competition which I have always wanted to enter you have to win now.

Ghia project is moving at a snails pace. I've had to put the family first the last couple months. I will have the brakes finished this week and hope to have the motor in one piece in the next week or so. I'm still going to the Challenge whether it looks good or not.

    Update:

Not going to the challenge. I've got too much going on. I just started a new gig long term subbing in band/strings at 3 elementary schools for 20 weeks, i've got a full size gmc that i'm in the process of flipping, i'm lining up jazz gigs, and i just can't fathom being away for a weekend right now. I'm not even going to h2o, and that's in my state.

I'll be getting to the car sometime soon, i still want to finish this thing. There will be some numbers out of it this year for sure, but yea.

The usual letdown grm thread :/

Sorry guys. The car's still going to be meaner than hell.

I'm facing this inevitable conclusion as well. Perhaps VWGuyBruce, Root Beer, and kingbeann will make an appearance for 2012

I'd hoped that the challenge would be easy to hit on the way to making this thing a quick little hot rod. Had to put other shop oriented priorities first though. Sucks, it doesn't need much. Soon enough though.

I'm not going to run this car next year. I'll be doing a few more things to it i image. It'll probably get a 298 cam at some point, probably a real diff and a non-stock clutch.

So, i think i'm just putting my haltech platinum 1000 on this car now. I'm thinking about parting my 12v stuff and keeping the mk3 chassis and drivetrain. It's just not cost effective to go the route i wanted to go with that motor. Trying to find the best way to restructure and revive my car life.

So yea, it's going about $1500 over budget right there.

Soooo, plans are shifting to put my GTI trans together in a 4cyl o2a case that i already have, and just running that. I don't want to buy anything at all, but this route could get me a stout little drivetrain after just buying a flywheel. I was hating the idea of having to buy performance o2o parts.

    The Gti's setup is:
    Quaife
    Long ccm 1-2, 1.36 3rd, 1.036 4th, 3.94 final, and i have a bunch of spare parts/gears/final drives
    Modified syncros
Competition Stg 3 Clutch and reinforced fork
Good Master and Slave cylinders and stainless line
    o2j shifter setup

I'm currently looking at some different hydro clutch options. I won't be doing this with a cable.

  34. 09-30-2011 03:06 PM #139
    Step1: Remove drivetrain from GTI.
    Step2: Put drivetrain in Scirocco.
Step3: Put sawzall to work lightening.
Step4: Get kicked off track for no cage/ET
    Step5: ....
    Step6: PROFIT?

    Exactly that.

I could still see myself keeping an o2o. I'm having a tough time deciding. I feel weird buying performance parts for a trans that i basically hate.

    -o2o is lighter
-o2o clutches are silly stupid and i don't have a line on a reliable(drag reliable) one

-o2a is heavy(but will the front need weight at the track anyway?)
    -o2a clutch is great
-my o2a shifts like few others do
-I've already got all the junk

    SO MUCH THINKNIG!

I'm getting my Nitrous crap back from a buddy tonight.

I have a little over a month if i want to try to get into the 11.50 index class at World Cup Finals at MIR at the beginning of november....
