k, so here it goes, 2003 24v, almost 100k. I've noticed when the car is at idle, there is a sound that almost seems like there's a rock stuck within the motor that's bouncing around. Carr runs good, no lights, no codes, just noise. Another noise which sounds like ticking which may be the evap based on other threads.

I can not figure out what the noise is, can't hear it when revving, but the ticking noise seems to speed up.

    Not super specific, sorry.

in addition, wrong forum, but the transmission seems to make a sort of grinding noise. not the typical noise you hear when someone misses a gear or something, it's very quiet and only audible when the car is in first or reverse between 1-2k after moving from a stand still.

Ticking is Evap completely normal.. it will quite down once its warm and almost sound like a bad lifter... its not..

The trans noise, It could be a few things.. Original clutch? could be time for a Slave Cylinder... another thing to consider is some fresh gear oil... this will be the easiest thing to do, cause if you need a slave the trans has to come out and @ that point put a new clutch in..

this other noise you speak of, any chance to get a sound clip of some sort???

you could as well check your pulleys and accessories over on the passenger side to see if some of them are making noise.. I had a weird ticking/knocking sound.. thought it was my tensioner turns out my PS pump is making an odd noise... So time to replace that..
you can take a long handled screw driver and put it up to each component and put your ear on the handle, that will magnify the sound...

    hope this helps...

If he noise is rattling like marbles, it is you intake shifter rod "bearings". They wear out and get loose.

could be a marble like sound..it'd be like putting a rock or marble in a soda can, covering the top with your hand, and shaking the can a little, i can only hear it at idle. any good way to check this?

I tried the screwdriver trick, nifty, but i couldn't actually manage to magnify the sound. but it seems that is coming from the passenger side, but i can hear it in the cabin with the hood down.

I know there's a diy on gruven for the 12v. Does the 24v differ?

For replacing the intake manifold shifter bushings it is EXACTLY the same 12V or 24V.

pretty sure that's your sway bar bushings.
