I kept going through compressors on these Hella-brand air horn kits, probably went through 3 or 4 in total. Picked up the newest version from Griot's Garage and am hoping for the best - at least they offer a product guarantee.

The Hella horn kit needed a custom bracket that I attached to the factory horn bracket, and looked like chit. Very happy that this new version is much simpler and attaches nicely to the factory horn location.

Been a while... But like I said before, slooow progress!

The wife and I made a quick visit to our local dealer to pick up a new set of chrome VW badges to replace the smoked emblems we had been running for a while. (Anyone wanna buy 'em?) The "empty hole" look is now finally gone and we'll run this way until we can (eventually) go badgeless the right way...

We also made a stop at our local Discount Tire store to pick up a set of Bridgestone Blizzak LM60 tires since both our cars will see road time in snow this year. We then picked up a set of Hartmann Euromesh 4 wheels to wrap them around so we don't risk trashing our mint set of BBS RC wheels we've had laying around for it. It was also nice to know we were the first Volkswagen to run the 5x100 Euromesh 4. H&R DR-series 5mm and 15mm spacers were also added to get the fit just where I wanted it.

Will likely put the stock clear turns back in, but not until after that front bumper (which will have the markers shaved) is on. We will both just have to live with it for now.

Tackled two things on the "To Do" list these last couple of weeks so it's time for a small update.

    * cracked windshield replaced with another piece of fresh, OE glass and tinted 50%
    * sourced some bikes and rack accessories to put these bars to good use!

I'll try and get better pictures of the windshield (the tint is really subtle) on the Golf but you can click here to see what it looks like on our CC which was done at the same time. Very pleased with the results and difficult to "notice" unless you're staring at it for a while.

Brakes are next. We've been running the same OE rotors/pads since we bought this (in '05?) and now that we're due it's time to think about an upgrade. A 328mm ST40 StopTech BBK with black calipers is on the shelf ready to be installed. Will update you guys next when we're all done with that.

StopTech 328x28 ST40 BBK up front and matching OE-sized slotted StopTech "SportStop" rotors were just installed along with some stainless steel braided brake lines, swapping out to StopTech's STR600 fluid at the same time. Haven't had a chance to go out and drive it/bed-in the pads yet but I expect a world of difference from the factory set-up!

    Caliper clearance for days!

Bed-in the pads and felt how incredibly well these calipers clamped down on these discs, holy $#!T!! A true, night-and-day difference yet very OEM-like pedal feel, very smooth modulation. This is indeed a very well-balanced brake kit for the car, instilling confidence in braking ability. Gonna have to get a set for the CC next. Damn...

Appreciate the offer! I already have a front R bumper that's sitting, waiting to be installed. Now I'm thinking about selling it and getting a Euro-spec R bumper instead to go with the R-line rear.

Thanks, I hope so. I spent hours buffin' the paint the night before. (only to have to drive through mud at the show)

Yet another "maintenance" update. Gotta love VW "proprietary" parts...

Even with a hook-up, prices are a bit steap. On the bright side, it's getting a whole new PCV system so that's one less thing to worry about for a while...
