you literally posted my favorite games of this generation. So I pretty much hate RPG games, as I don't like grinding, even for a little bit. However, I love action games that are difficult, but fair. Some of my favorite games are the Devil May Cry series, Bayonetta, Vanquish, etc. Based on that criteria, would I like this game?
dark souls is much more methodical, but you can sort of be a royal guard guy if you wanted, or an action hero. it's not a flip-trick style game like the games you mentioned though
this is an action game that happens to have a ton of rpg elements.

Decided to reclass. I'm now a level 10 pyromancer with 3 humanity (technically 6, since I have 3 in my inventory). I'm near the gargoyles at about ~1hour in. Managed to do the boar and tower night with no flasks. I'm getting used to the game and it's fairly fun now.
I even have a zweilhander. that I got through a suicide mission in the cemetery.![]()

How does multiplayer work? can you join friends?

If you want to join your friend; in the words of Namco, "Good Luck"
Unless they fixed it.
#41
the only way you could join your friends is if you were in an Xbox party or something, or were able to coordinate where exactly you are leaving your summon stones
this isn't a game you play with your buddies really. you can't send invites or drop-in drop-out. it's nothing like that
the place i got to last night...
the fact that this game is essentially one entirely huge area is a completely remarkable achievement. the wrap around design is peerless.

i played through demon souls twice so i know how the mp worked in that game. I didn't know if they made an effort to allow party-play or co-op. Sounds like it didn't change much.

They made it worse, Mr. Wilder.
1/25 console restarts MAY (MAY) get you to your friends server.

I now have 3 characters in the ~20 range. All are very different. I like my pure strength build the most. 25 strength is enough to wield the Zweihander and do more damage than the dragon sword.
I do need to put more points into endurance so I can swing more than once though.![]()
#45
i am about halfway through the game now, and thats about 40 hours.
this is way beyond anything i've seen in a long long time. ****ing wow
#46
I'm jumping around quite a bit. Just exploring. Right now, I'm just killing things and upping my endurance and strength.
Quite sad that the Black Knight Greatsword requires skills I don't want to even put points into... oh well.

i hate using epic too, but really, this game defines it
every time i go through an area and start feeling the need for a break, you open some sort of switch or elevator that takes you back to somewhere familiar and "safe" feeling
#49
This game is waaaay too easy at the moment. I beat the Darkroot butterfly boss with 5 hits.Died once because I couldn't gauge the magic dart looking attack properly.
#50
that is probably the easiest boss in the game, but the music!
i got to an enemy tonight that took over ecco the dolphin for my most "creepy and undeniably terrifying and horrifyingly scary" boss i have ever seen. the visuals and music are just powerful
#51
So, I decided to kill the guy that sells miracles at the firelink shrine.... he said something that pissed me off.
"What the... What did I do wrong!?"
YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID!
I'm also almost tempted to kill Lautrec but, I want his armor.
Also, Killed Pinwheel of the catacombs... fell off the map when traversing the darkness.![]()

I'm in Blightown, dodging boulders. Finally picked up new gear: crimson robes, mask of the sealer and a new catalyst. Looks pretty sick![]()

Just picked this up last night. Played for about 30 minutes...
Cant wait to play it a little more tonight!!!!

It's not bad, you just can't get all the benefits of raising your flasks level. You get the ladies soul from him later. It's just a minor annoyance in the early/mid game.
Yurt... He met the edge of the tower fairly quickly in my game. I never wore his silly helm.
#57
there are a few other people who can raise the estus flask level, i just got to +4 last night. i lost my initial fire too
lets keep bosses and areas sort of non spoiled, try not to be specific.

that is a GREAT spot to do some soul gathering. there is a group of enemies you can kill for about 9000 souls a pop, takes about 2 minutes once you get your strategy. i used it to level and power up my pyro hand
and the boss that you will get to...![]()

I wanted to join for the covenant.... but guess what happened to me? Glitch killed an npc (walked off cliff.) Covenant broken..
I went to the boss, wasn't sure if I was going to break the covenant so I decided to let him kill me. fairly easy fight though. Does look beautiful and artful.

Well, went to the depths, got the boss, killed the tail (died shortly after due to trying to figure out how the hell to stop the soul arrow shooting jackass) But the death was soooo worth it... the weapon is AWESOME! works well with my strength build. (currently at 36)
I'm also noticing an input delay sometimes... like I was in the depths and was being attack, I blocked, tried to counter and got nothing until 4 seconds (yes, 4 seconds) after and started getting hit again because they had time to recover. Thankfully it's a non-issue most of the time because 1 hit will either knock 'em on their arse or kill them.
Hmm.. I thought for sure Lautrec would've killed the firekeeper since I entered the depths. It appears (since I came back to the firelink shrine) she's still alive. So, yeah, I can finally go into the depths without worry.

I'm stuck in Blighttown still. Tried entering from the Drake Valley area, no go. Tried the original route from the Depths, no go. I can only put in 2 hours or so a night and it usually takes me a good 30 minutes to figure out where the hell I'm going.![]()
#63
that input lag issue is a known glitch
there are some other things like invulnerability problems with a spell, and some terrain tracking problems with i'm sure we have already all dealt with![]()
#64
So, I thought you were supposed to get humanity when you kill a black phantom? I got nothing but a small bunch of souls..![]()
#65
i think you take the humanity they have, so maybe they didn't have any?
the rats in the depths give humanity, with the snake ring i got about 30 humanities in an hour or so.
#66
after facing 8 taurus demons and 100000 billion capra demons.. I got beat by a damn worm.![]()
But I have the Demon Greatsword and Demon Axe.
And then I get stuck in blight town because I don't have the key to the lift shortcut in the valley of the drakes.WHERE IS THE KEY!!!?!?!?!?

#67
i don't get it, you got to the demon ruins but are stuck in blight town?
that worm destroyed my weapon a few times getting to that boss
you can take the elevator from the daughter of chaos, that goes right down to the ruins.
#68
I don't have the key to the new londo ruins (gate to the lift from valley of drakes) So I would then have to go on the cliff route pass the ancient dragon and somehow beat the one drake blocking the whole path. I ended up dying trying to pass him.
I have to say, those worms are 10x harder than any of the demons down there. Very small window of attack (if you're melee like me) and they hit HARD (full stamina bar for me).
so I ventured into the Great Hollows and get 1 shot by the big mushroom dudes.![]()
#69
Blightown f'ed up my game for awhile too. I'm too far into maneuverability and ranged play to deal with those narrow platforms 100 feet in the air.![]()
#70
That's why I pretty much skipped blight town entirely... I just took the shortcut to the boss and haven't really explored any of it except the bottom level.
