The quick version,
The 2 ex heads of Infinity Ward (West and Zampella, are suing Activision because They are owed $$ for meeting certain goals with Modern Warfare 2, additionally they want the rights to any future Call of Duty game set in the modern era.
Activision is suing them because they claim the 2 heads breached their contract by meeting with Activision's competition (EA), they want money from the 2 as well.
Ex(and current) employees of Infinity Ward are also suing Activision for royalties promised them.
These Lawsuits are all set to start May 23rd.

it's so funny how protective people are when they only play 1 game all the time
i have a big-time love hate with nintendo, i love how people think i am on their tip because of my name. save that stuff for Caddy.
if you really think treyarch is a better dev then nintendo![]()

not bored, i really am puzzled how people can play this crap, i really REALLY am
"i'm gonna go prone, wait here, damn i got killed"
"gonna go back to that spot, ok waiting.... got a kill, another, got killed"
"ok, lets try that again"
"woah, unlocked these perks and guns"
"max level, might as well prestige and start the whole thing over..."
it's so way too god damned repetitive, i honestly do not understand the mental connection wanting to keep doing that. i think anybody will play a game if it says +5 after every kill. anyone can reach max level since it's just a grind.
no one ever gives a legitimate response, it's all a bunch of hateful banter that has nothing to do with my valid points. the games i end up retrying over and over at least give me something to show for it when i'm done.
help me understand on a gameplay and mechanic standpoint what the draw is. there are just too many awesome games to soak into then play the same game every day for an entire year until the next game comes along.

What do your beloved games give you when you finish? No games give you anything to show for when you are done. When you turn the console off all you did was waste a bunch of time.
Do you not understand why people play Counter-Strike? I grew up playing that game sine version 4.something up until the most current update (probably going to play a bit of CS:S when i finish this post). There is absolutely nothing to the game. Run around, kill terrorists, rescue hostages, defuse bombs OR kill counter terrorists, hold hostages and plant bombs. There are no perks, no kill-streaks, no power-ups, no nothing and yet it is still one of the most popular online games ever created. People play multiplayer FPS games because it is fun and challenging, probably the same reason you spend hours getting flawless playthroughs on super tough sidescrollers, etc.
We get it Quin, you don't get into FPS games.

alright, we get it.
people don't play the CoD series, or any online game for that matter, because it makes them feel accomplished. people play it because it's an online game with a huge following, and it's fun with friends. that's the main point, it's just stupid fun with friends. it doesn't need to be more complicated than that, and i don't think you understand that.
i think i have six games, and regularly play about every one of them. when i get frustrated or tired of one, i switch it out. and if i get tired of that, i turn of the xbox and take a break for a couple days.
what else did you have in mind? what other games should we be playing?

but when i hear of people playing it, never sounds like they are having any fun whatsoever. it's just complaining about people camping, etc, or saying curse words over and over while they wait for a care package.
you paid good money for your console, try new games! it's a great form of media, it's not like you watch the same great movie every day, or read the same book over and over.
and people wonder why the industry is suffering
when people play this and nothing else, they don't have the right to complain about pricing, DLC, or the lack of quality, since they are contributing to it 100%.
i guess it's a generation thing. i grew up with gameplay oriented games, nes, snes, etc.
now it's focused on talking to your friends while droning until the end of time

You know my history, I've owned just about every console released since Atari 2600, ( in fact it would be easier to name those i didn't have: Neo Geo, Intellivision, Colecovision, Jaguar, 3DO, Turbographx 16)
I've played a bunch of games in a bunch of genres. I'll give you my take on it.
I've never claimed Call of Duty to be the best game out there. I don't even think its the best FPS out there. The original title of this thread was Modern Warfare 3? mainly because there is a big lawsuit soon which may impede the release of this game. It has since been change to the Official MW3 thread (not by me).
The reason I play the game is that the bulk of my co workers and friends play the game. There is trash talking amongst ourselves, there is BS-ing the following day at work, and its fun.
On the gameplay side the draw of it for my friends (versus other FPS) is that it typically takes less bullets to kill someone, the (generally)smaller size of maps and the speed of the matches, respawns and for that matter the interface...
for example when you kill someone or defend something etc...in CoD you get a quick prompt with a sound effect which is prominently displayed on the screen.
In BFBC2 the same notification is displayed less prominently with no accompanying sound effect
Small differences but they turned the tide (in our case) in favor of one series over the other.

Oh sweet Jesus, I just came. Excuse me while I change my boxer's.
How am I suppose to decide between this and BF3![]()

Im so confused. COD as a series is on the decline. MW2 was ok, I *hated* Black Ops, the lead studio is fragmented and this game is being gang banged by three different teams. By all accounts this should be a total train wreck....
But I want it?![]()

I think the game looks phenomenal. I'll probably pick it up because I'm a sucker for these things at this point.

Didn't WOW me... but it looks like the old MP5 from MW is making a comeback![]()

My Buddy Alex said the same thing. Is there going to be destructable enivornments in the MP? He thought so.
MW MP was incredible. I would def. throw in CoD4. Some of the best guns ever. Set killstreaks. And fantastic maps. Honestly I don't ever remember complaining about something in CoD4.

from what i've been reading, the game has a new engine and a destructible environment.
of course, we'll definitely know more in a few weeks at E3.
i've honestly never played MW either. but like i've said multiple times, this is the first CoD game i've owned. i played a little bit of world at war at a friends place, but that's it.

Trailer certainly looks action packed, they all have though...Let's see what else they show, if they bring new features (aforementioned destructible environments, vehicles in multiplayer etc...) If they fix some of the problems (lag). The peeps at work have seen the trailer and they are intrigued.
AS for me I'm definitely getting BF3, lets just see if this is also purchased.
Which was your first MW2 or Black Ops?

From what i'm seeing, it looks like they again built upon the original COD4 engine, just like BLOPS, MW2, and WOW. The character models look identical. I highly doubt they will add destructible environments. At most i think it will have some destructibility, maybe deterioration is a better word, of certain set-peices, but not the widespread destruction capable in the BFBC series. There is just no way they could build an engine and game in 2 years time capable of all those features. Not that they have been worried about making quality games since cod4...

imo Black Ops was a massive nose dive for the series. i still enjoy playing it but not nearly as much as I love playing MW2 or MW.
This is mostly due to my developer preference for the MW games. MW3 is sure to be a heavyweight contender for the 2011 Game of the Year title. BF3 is shaping up to be a more realistic style of large area battle, while COD has always had strong control over map size and more or an arcade feel. I find it hard to place either of them into the same category unless the category was fps/shooter. Both are fantastic games and i plan to get both
I am also staying away from the major leaks as i want the storyline and such to still be a surprise.

There is always a lead team that fronts all the development. A game of this caliber must have needed more development groups in order to complete the project in time for release. Therefore, it is logical that there be:
Infinity Ward - most likely graphic, and story design
Hammer - more graphics and some sort of specialization like the explosions or weapons
Activision - big pockets and more than willing to take credit
Granted that this might not be completely right, but that main point is that there will be a lead developer that needed some assists along the way. Game looks great![]()

Typically with the CoD games, Activision has 2 studios working on the properties so they can have yearly releases. The simple estimate is that each team has 2 years from completion of their prior game to create their next one.
ie Infinity Wards releases were 2 years apart from each other:
CoD 03
CoD2 05
CoD4:MW 07
CoD(6):MW2 09
likewise with Treyarch's games:
CoD3 06
CoD(5):WaW 08
CoD(7):BlOps 10
With the MW3 game, guesstimate that the full, original Infinity Ward team had maybe half a year to work on the new property before a good chunk of them left. Former heads West and Zampella were fired on Mar 1 2010, with 46 IW members leaving by May of 2010, 38 of those re-joining West and Zampella @ Respawn Studios, MW2 was released Nov of 2009.
The main concern is an unknown developer Sledgehammer Games has their hands in it (with Raven Soft rumored to be handling the multiplayer) whereas the 2 previous MW games were completely handled by Infinity Ward. Obviously there are extraordinary circumstances this time around.
It looks great, but so does every game that uses engine. Black Ops is apparently Treyarchs best game in the series, it looks great, and uses a version of the IW engine, but its a still a little off from Infinity Wards best. I just wonder how this group will fare with this one.
