I've been actively seeking out a 2011 4dr w/autobahn and have this awful feeling (after mico told me the car was NOT marked as sold) that my dealer is screwing me. Therefore, I've been looking at getting one w/sunroof and nav and was wondering if the dynaudio is really worth it? I don't mind at all about the kessy and I can live without the leather seats. Please chime in

I have a 2010 w/Autobahn, Dynaudio etc. I think it is a great package and worth it but I could have done without some of it. Xenons and Nav are the only 2 things I really wouldn't have done without.

Honestly I only considered the GTI after I saw the autobahn package. I have had leather seats in my cars for the past 20 years (aside for a short stint in an STI 8 years ago). I have had keyless entry on my last three cars (its one of those options you don't care about until you experience it, then it becomes a must have). The Dynaudio is one of the best oe sound systems I have experienced…better than the logic 7 upgrade of BMW that I traded in. The Nav is decent and I like the stock integrated look over an add on. Moonroof isn't a deal breaker for me one way or the other...

When I say keyless I mean the Kessy system where the key stays in your pocket, all GTI's have keyless entry

Kessy is annoying. Not so much for guys because we tend to just have the key in our pocket, but my wife has it in her car and it's annoying because i can't open the passenger door until she get to the car and opens her door. I like being able to open the car as I'm walking towards it... and with vagcom, being able to open the windows before i get there too.
And what's with putting the start button on the steering column??? So lame. At least put a proper red start button on the dash or center console.

Also, i hear the leather is not the best? I dunno. But i love the look of those tartan seats.

Extremely happy with the Autobahn package. I really love the kessy. It's the one thing I probably would have skipped if I could have, but having used it for 6 or 7 months now I find it to be super convenient. Re button on column vs. dash -- friend just got a new Ford Focus -- button is on the dash, but there's a ridiculous blank on the column that just looks silly. So it could be worse...

Seats, Xenon & Dynaudio are great. Nav is probably the weak point, but it is good to have it built in. Never been a big sunroof user, but also nice to have.

All in all, I would def do Autobahn again, no regrets.

      Good question?

I cannot live with leather/pleather as it is much too warm here, it is also a bit substandard in quality in my opinion compared with others I have experienced and totally do not care about a push button start system at all.

That leaves Dynaudio. I have been in GTI's equipped with both and though I would have paid for Dynaudio no problem had it been available on this trim level, I most certainly can live without it. The system is slightly clearer and is more powerful with higher volume capabilities which is to be expected form an amplified system. I personally find it a bit bright and lacking in bass for a premium sound system but still overall very, very good. I also find the premium VIII paired to the RNS-315 to be more than adequate.

Do you know what you can still take the key out of your pocket and push the "unlock" twice?

To be honest, I've never sat in an autobahn and listened to the stereo quality, so just putting this as a disclaimer before I recommend anything.

I have the Sunroof/Navi package and before I bought it, was feeling the same as you - Xenon's/Sunroof/Navi were a must, but I could live without the upgraded stereo and leather seats.

I'm VERY happy with the stock stereo system after it breaks in and really can't imagine the dynaudio being THAT much better? I've heard there is a practically unnoticeable difference between the two unless you're some kind of audiophile.

Anyways, good luck with your purchase!

If you don't really want the leather seats or kessy, you shouldn't spend $2025 extra for a stereo. I got the Autobahn package because I don't like the interlagos seats, but to each their own. The Dynaudio stereo sounds much better than a Bose system I had in a previous vehicle, but that really isn't a good comparison because Bose speakers are crap.

It'd be an extra $1620 for the autobahn and I already have it ordered and sold to me, so autobahn it is. I had a MKV autobahn and the upgraded stereo was crap, so hopefully this dynaudio will be a big improvement. Glad to hear all the feedback! Thanks guys

I would buy the autobahn package again and will in the future. Kesey is one of those items you say you don't need untilmyou use it. Kessy is convenient as hell and I love it and you'll never lock your keys in the car as it's impossible.

The leather is anything but substandard. I find it better than most leather seats I've ever had . They look and feel excellent quality to me. The nav is weak but functional and intuitive. Sirius is all I need for Howard.

Shrug, probably not, but to each his own. I'm surprised nobody has done a poll like this before!

I think it is a good strategy from VW and expands the appeal of the GTI - I can't think Audi thinks the same of the Autobahn package, as I think it would/does cannibalize A3 (non quattro) sales..

I love my autobahn. I came from a BMW then a TSX and chose the Autobahn to keep the lux comparable to them. The nav I think is great, the touch screen is so nice. The bigger bolster seats hold me nice and tight. After some use I do find the leather on the bolsters to seem a bit... rubbery.. compared to my BMW or TSX... I can't live without the sunroof or xenon's... and the dynaudio I think is a great system... I wish it would have came with some sort of stock sub though, it lacks there. Overall I love the car and kessy is a big + to me as I hate taking my key off my belt clip.

Another way to look at it is this...

Is Sex worth it? You certainly don't need it but it's great to have.

I didn't get the autobahn because they only thing I NEEDED were xenons. I ended up with xenons and a sunroof so it's all good.

The only annoying thing with the autobahn is that your back could get sweaty on the leather seats on warmer days... otherwise hell yes it's worth it

Yea, I've come to know and accept this with all black leather seats in the summer, oh well!

Is autobahn leather only? My girl and I were at a dealer and I made a comment of pleather in the new jettas and the sales guy said it was more of a going green thing. I say it was a money thing. He said 2012 only vw with leather option will be the sports.limited 50k toureg.

Since xenons is the one mandatory along with dynaudio im curious.of anyones opted for.stock and upgraded to xenons and put in an aftermarket stereo that kills the dynaudio. As this.would be my first brand new car id like to not do anything to it for a while.

I just don't see the need for push button start; a key works just fine. And I am not one of those sound-ophiles that needs to have noise playing every waking second of my life. Just the song is fine with me, I don't need anything other than the ability to play the music. With that said the other features seem worthwhile and last I checked nav systems retain value on resale if that matters to you. I plan on keeping my next car (Golf R) until it dies so resale matters little to me at this point...

Since xenons is the one mandatory along with dynaudio im curious.of anyones opted for.stock and upgraded to xenons and put in an aftermarket stereo that kills the dynaudio. As this.would be my first brand new car id like to not do anything to it for a while.
Autobahn is leather, keyless entry/pushbutton start and dynaudio stereo.

      Yea, and no ESP button

I'm glad I'm getting one of the leftover 2011's, I was really interested in getting the 2012 GLI until I found out that there was no ESP button... sigh.
