Got my windshield replaced today, and just wanted to post up what a great job they did. Took the time & care that we all appreciate when someone it working on our cars.

Scottsdale Auto Glass is owned by Seth who's a fellow dubber/vortexer. My insurance doesn't allow for OEM replacement, but he made sure I got what was basically the same thing, just without the VW logo on it. Same manufacturer as the OEM windshield.

If you need a windshield I highly recommend dropping him a PM. B6TURBOWAGON.

It was a pleasure to work on such a clean car. Chicago's look awesome on a B6. Being a fellow Vortexer , I understand how important your car is to you. I treat every vehicle as if it's my own. Safe travels, enjoy WUSTE.

I gotta give them a call one of these days. I have a big crack in my A4's windshield that I've been ignoring for too long.

I replaced my window a while ago with a non-OEM glass (the company said the same thing, that it was as good as OEM) and the thing is complete sh*t. It cracks every time I get hit with the smallest rock. I did not have the same problem with the previous glass, so this is just a warning. I'll never get non-OEM glass again.

P.S. Why would the insurance NOT cover OEM glass replacement? Are they being cheap? What insurance company are you with?

FYI, B6 Passat's windshield was replaced with Sekurit St. Gobain, one of VW's OE suppliers, it is the same glass as the dealers without the VW logo. I don't know what brand your glass is, perhaps it's not Sekurit. I can assure you that there are varying levels of quality out there. Some shops talk up OEM quality products and it some cases that may be true, but not many. If I talk up OEM quality, it is because it is the same brand product as the original manufacturer.

If you car is greater than one year old, chances are your ins co will NOT pay for OEM dealer glass. And yes, it is because they are trying to save money/cheap. For example any new Lexus windshield is upwards of $1500 list from Lexus, aftermarket maybe $375, need I say more. Only a couple of ins co will allow OEM product, but of course, they cost much more.

Sorry that you had a negative experience with the glass shop you used.

PPG glass is an excellent OEM replacement if I can't find VW/Audi original glass. There are glass manufacturer that makes low cost glass to pass minimum DOT safety standard and those are the one's that you see with the wavy appearance in the inside and can be easily chipped with a grain of sand. How, much more for the sekurit vs. aftermarket?

As long as I can find it, it won't cost you anymore. Had to bring in B6 PASSAT's glass from out of town.

Also, PPG has 'reorganized" and are now PGW. They are using a chinese third party to manufacture most of their product.

I now prefer the Pilkington(owns Sekurit) and Guardian products to PGW. Guardian is also OE on cars like Lambo & Lotus, they offer a really nice euro line/euro spec product.

The '84 Scirocco windshield is available in Sigla, which is an awesome euro manufacturer. OEM for most Porsches. Call me if you would like me to order it.

My windshield cracked while I was in Flagstaff over the weekend and I immediately remembered reading this thread a few weeks earlier so I gave Seth a call. It's Monday afternoon and I've already got my new windshield installed!!!!

These guys do PHENOMENAL work and after talking with Seth during the course of the install, it's easy to see why. We live in a time where unfortunately customer service and quality of work is often missed. It's amazing to find people like Scottsdale Auto Glass who pride themselves on making sure things are done right the first time.

Thank you so much to both Seth and Mike for making this hands down the easiest glass repair experience I've ever had... and to all the Vortex members in The Valley you would be doing yourself and your car a huge disservice to not make them your first call when you need glass work.

Big Bump for a sweet GTI.

Thanks for the extremely high praise. It's my pleasure to take excellent care of your GTI. If I am not making this experience easier for you, then I'm not doing my job. I take the enthusiast very seriously, as I am one too.

I truly hope that I delivered the best of what you were expecting. Many safe journeys. Enjoy that ride.

Hmmm... how about Mk1 Scirocco (1975-1981) windshields? I have a couple of new ones squirreled away but there is always a demand for those. It was my understanding a few years back that they had to be made in batches of say, 50 or so in order to justify the run. Several members of the Scirocco forum have said that calling their local resources have not been able to find them.

I have five of them in my attic but wanted to see if I could throw some low-profit business your way.

Seth came out to replace the windshield on my avant yesterday, and the whole process was smooth and painless. I IM'd here on the vortex at 3:45 in the afternoon and he was at my office at 7:45 the next morning with his installer and a new windshield. He even got OEM glass for it when State Farm would only cover third-party glass. Thanks Seth!

Seth can you please look up the availability of a hatch glass for 94-98 Golf - listed as Canadian/Mexican with NO holes/spoiler...

I've completely had it with my normal glass guy and finally steering my business your direction - something I probably should have done a long time ago.. but my old guy was good to me for quite some time, I just cant ignore how bad he sucks these days.

Dirty freeways, good size rock hit the windshield and cracked it almost all the way across from the center.

Funny that this thread got revived. A few weeks ago I searched here for a recommendation and found this thread. Called SAG and they came over to my house and replaced the wind shield on the White .:R for $295. Excellent service.

It was cracked for over 4 years. Kept putting it off because I have the worst luck, but no chips or scratches in those 4 years. Now I'm certain the shiny new glass is a rolling rock magnet.

That fate is usually only secured by getting window tint or a parking pass affixed to it.

Bump for a job well done! Just got my windshield replaced, and Seth was able to find OE quality glass for way less than OE price. Now let's see how long until I have another rocky encounter...

  30. 06-01-2012 05:46 PM #30
They did great work on my Jetta last summer as well. Scottsdale Auto Glass = Highly Recommended

  31. 06-01-2012 08:02 PM #31
Yeah, Seth did the windshield in my cabby too! After contacting a shop referred through a local shop, they told me they would have to have one shipped from Germany for 8 bills! Are you kidding me?

Seth located me a good enough windshield in Tucson, without the gross band across the top, brand new - installed it in my garage - car wasn't drivable at the time. His installer took his time and man is it wonderful to look through glass that isn't 20 plus years old!

Reasonable in price, even better in customer service.

We just got both our MKV's replaced this month and as always Seth's customer service and communication is incomparable to other glass companies. Mike does a great job on the installs too!

I forgot to add to this thread that Scottsdale Auto Glass replaced the windshield in my 2011 Golf TDi a few months back with OEM glass. The process going through my insurance was painless and they came to my work address and there was absolutely no fuss to the whole thing.

The other big thing for me was that after having lots of windshields replaced by more generic companies before this experience I get tired of finding greasy fingerprints and windshield adhesive run-off on the car and on the A-pillar. The Golf was handled really well and the car's dash and white pillar covers were unscathed.
