And what would you suggest for brands to look at? After all, don't want anyone to laugh in my face....

A word of warning. When I fitted an LED DRL in my right hand side headlight assembly, it turns out that there is a right way and a wrong way to insert the DRL holder.

While I can now turn the DRL holder about 90 degrees I cannot now remove it (The LED needs replacing) - the DRL holder is stuck fast and won't come out (and before you ask, it did up very smoothly when I put it in the LED previously - no extra pressure or anything like that).

I've had a VW mechanic look at it and he couldn't remove it either and no one wants to exert so much pressure that it snaps the holder assembly.

So the next step unfortunately will be to remove the headlight to try and get at the DRL holder unit properly instead of the crazy finger-tip routine that VW designed on these headlights - which apparently means removing the bumper.

Not happy - a cheap DRL is turning into an expensive exercise to fix.

It's all good, thanks for the recommendation. I'll poke around the net for some better bulbs out there and let you all know whet I end up finding!

      Thanks again!

Installed some LED DRLs and no codes so far. Tight fit, glad that I don't have sausage fingers.

I want to thank JB and all the others on this thread. I am a noob so I read every post, all 16 pages worth, and my LED install went smooth with no issues (except for the scrapes and bruises on my hand from the DRL install). Here is what I installed:

      http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-T10-194-168...ht_7962wt_1270

With these I installed the front Map Lights, Glove Box Light, License Plate Lights, and the City Lights. No errors or dashboard warning lights!

      http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2x-1156-Ba15s...ht_7902wt_1270

With these I installed the DRL (kind of a pain in the A but not too bad...took me about 10 minutes)

Everything worked great and in all it took me about an hour or so. the Vision Technology seller on ebay was great! They are located in CA, I live in TX and it took less than a week to arrive.

So here is my only other question...I saw it asked on this thread but never answered! Is there any way to change the blinker lights on the side view mirrors to LED? If so, what are they, where can I get them (a link is best), and how do I get to the lights?????

Once again THANK YOU all, especially those who contributed the most time and effort like JB, this was a great thread! I will be installing the HID 5000k that I have on order from DDM and I will soon be ordering the rear map lights and the trunk! And hopefully the side view mirror blinkers!

Here is a link to the pics I just took...not the best quality pics but I will get better ones soon...but for now:

      www.photobucket.com/jettaledupgrade

The pic of the LED is the 194 5SMD that I used for the majority of the lights I installed, Sorry I didnt take a pic of the 1156 68SMD that I used for the DRL.

Going through eBay for the BA15s rear lights I came across this:

2x 18 SMD 1156 382 BA15s P21W CANBUS LED Tail or Brake bulbs Red error free

Anyone seen or used these before? From the looks of the picture it seems they are 2.5cm deep, so about an inch, is that enough room in the stock housing?

I have not seen those but as long as the bulb has the same dimensions as the stock bulbs it will have no problem fitting in. The only bulb you need to be aware of the most is the BA15s which is a small bulb in which you need a small led bulb as well. If you end up giving it a chance let me know. I have not had any luck in changing any of the rears to LEDs besides the back up lights.

shut the car off and lock the doors. walk to the rear and look at the taillights. if the reverse bulbs are still lit (dimly) you have a power leak. i've gone through many sets tryin to get mine right. i noticed on the ones i received that the bulbs were a tad to long to fit into the housing properly. if you do not have a power leak where did you get the bulbs?

Hmm did not know this. I havent really noticed but at the same time I havent paid much attention to that. I'll check on my lunch break, I got them from ddmtuning clearance section when I bought my hid kits. I have some other 1156 LED bulbs I mite throw in the reverse lights because the ones I got from ddm have a bad connection on one of the top LEDs, needs to be solder but nearly impossible because of how tiny it is, so sometimes they work completely and most of the time the 3 LEDs on top of the bulb dont work lol.

Has anyone successfully able to have both the DRL and signal light on at the same time?

Just got a 2012 GLI and i am hating the original interior lights so iam looking to replace them with the white LED's. I'm just wondering if these numbers will work with my GLI.

      Reading lamps/Glove box: 194 (X3)
      Vanity lights/Rear seats: 39mm (x4)
      Trunk Light: 44mm (x1)

I've been trying to find a kit online to order, but none come with the right bulbs it seems. Maybe if someone could correct me if im looking for the wrong bulbs or help me with a link that would be much appreciated.
