My brother-in-law's 2001 silver s4 with black leather interior was just stolen tonight at menlo park mall in New Jersey. The vehicle is stock and has automatic transmission. The license plate # is ZNX77J. If you have seen this vehicle, please call 911 and/or send me a pm here to state where have you seen this vehicle. This is a long shot but it will be a miracle to find this vehicle not in pieces. Here is a picture of what it looks like....

Thanks for all those who can help!

My buddy had a nearly identical S4 stolen from a Barnes and Noble VW meet just a few miles down Route 1. Best of luck to you, and I hope its just a group of punks looking for a joy ride.

I can't be of much help down here in NC, but a free bump for you nonetheless. Keep us posted as things transpire.

Maybe they stole it to paint the bumper grille inserts black?

IIRC this gen S4 didn't have an immobilizer.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but 9.999999 times out of 10 they won't find your car. I had my Passat stolen while I was at work on a Monday... I saw two police officers at a cafe, and they told me theres a very slim chance of finding it and just call the insurance company. They didn't even bother looking for it, or sending out a notice to fellow officers.

Sorry man, but keep in mind there are others in your shoes too..at least you can look forward to a new car now.

      Cheers and GL!

Bump for your brother. My old B5S4 had it's fair share of headlights stolen and drivers door poked with a chisel.

Isn't Waterfest in a few weeks? Would the thief be dumb enough to drive it there? Or the car will be there in parts?

Doesn't this stuff happen all the time in NJ? I heard guys go around with tow trucks pretending to tow cars and then they just haul them away to ship them to Russia. I heard Audi's are popular in Russia

That sucks though, hope everything turns out well for you

You may think you're joking, but that does happen in NJ. More so with the Honda crowd than anything else, though.

Had the same thought.. totally lost it when I read this.

Car will most likely be found abandoned with no headlights and destroyed engine mounts as well as needing the drivers door to be repaired. I have no clue why but almost every theft recovery S4 I ever worked on had both engine mounts ripped to shreds. I knew people who drag raced every week, street raced, tracked their cars and never once had a torn engine mount, car would get stolen and boom engine mounts shot.

Those older model S4's must be super easy to steal, because every-single-person I know who has/had one, has either had it stolen, or almost stolen.

A friend of mine (i think his username is beachbumdave), had his mk4 jetta broken into. they stole his wallet and im pretty sure they destroyed his dash trying to get his radio out. A couple weeks later, another friend of mine (vwchef2), had his '01 S4 stolen right out of his driveway. 3 weeks later, the cops found the S4...and get this- beachbumdave's wallet that was stolen weeks earlier, was in the S4. These guys live about a good 40-50 miles apart. Crazy...

they are easier to steal than most cars, yes.

If you have no clue what you are doing you can have one in under 20 seconds.

Most factory alarms can be disabled by turning the key in the door so that you can shut it off without the remote, all it does is flip a switch when the lock cylinder is turned. Slam a screwdriver in next to the door handle and you can flip that same switch which also activates the power locks and you can open up the door. The mk4s were similar you just put the screwdriver in the top of hte trim that holds the lock cylinder then smack with your hand, cylinder and trim would go flying out, stick screwdriver into hole activate power locks/disable alarm.

Back in the day when those cars were new many S4 owners in the tr-state area would bring their ecu with them whenever they parked the car. Sure they would come back to a car with a smashed door and ignition (plus some damage from a pissed off thief) but at least the car was there when they got back.

We need a subforum for all of the people that whine about being a victim of theft.Sorry about your loss, but use your regional forums.

We are not the police, we are not interpol, we are not the A-Team. You got jacked and you will never see your **** again and if you do you will wish you hadn't.

      Buying and not building?

My car is 11 years old I haven't had a car payment in 5 years. I buy cheap cars and build them the way I want. Do you think I am some sort of trust fund baby or something?

Woodbridge (right up the street) used to have one of the highest theft rates in the state according to my dad. They would just tow cars out back in the 70s not even bother breaking in. Made them create the law in NJ that tow trucks have to turn their yellow lights on when entering a private parking lot so security could easily track them.

Menlo was pretty bad in the early days of the S4.
