Senior Project Engineer for a company that does outsourced dictation / transcription for hospitals. I basically build them in our system, write interfaces, all set up, as we

We were initially a start up company back in 1996. I came on in 1998 as employee #6. We had about 1,000 employees last year when we sold to a much larger company. Now I'm one of hundreds of thousands. I liked the smaller company much better.

A friend of mine made an interesting point.

If all these states like NC, etc. are banning same-sex marriage, doesn't that indirectly imply (having an explicit ban) that in absence of the ban we *do* have that right?

Seems that in absence of an explicit ban, it's an implicit grant.

Unfortunately, Scalia votes based on how the Catholic Church tells him on matters like this, and Thomas is douchenozzle, so I don't think it's ready to go before SCOTUS.

As for this statement, it doesn't really do a lot, but it does paint a clear portrait of Obama against Romney. Romney, the man who is against gay marriage. Or civil unions. Or ENDA. And, if he became President, he'd probably support the "religious exemption" that tea partiers are pushing for on the local level to allow discrimination against LGBTs in housing.

Agreed. I can agree to disagree on many things, but not on something that is so important, significant, and integral to being an equal person in this country. I can no longer coddle "friends" along on stuff like this. Believing that I don't deserve the same rights you have is equivalent to telling me that I do not matter, I am not worthy, etc. Who would be friends with someone that felt I was not worthy of the same happiness and legal peace that they themselves enjoy?

On something this important/significant, a "friend" is going to have to pick a side and if they pick the other side, I will have to cut the friend cord.

As much as it pains me to disassociate myself from family, I don't want to involve myself with religious zealots who see me as unequal to themselves.

Same here. My father refused to come to our commitment ceremony, even though I supported him by being the best man at his wedding to the woman that he met and proposed to just two months after my mother died. She (his wife) was more on our side than his but she took the "I'm married to him and I have to support my husband's wishes" stance and I can respect that.

Never talked to him again (since 2006 now). I've talked to her a few times briefly (we ended up working at the same college for a while) but didn't go out of my way to talk to her either. She in my mind was a little more like "guilty by association only" and so I didn't really cut the cord from her directly.
