People who think it's a choice are often going to fall back on their religion which will back up their beliefs while you, as a homo and a sinner, are not an authority to say otherwise. So you have to go with a different angle, one that conservatives usually understand- such as freedom. I also see the gay rights struggle as part of a greater struggle for general sexual liberation, freedom of choice (to have sex outside of marriage for example) and freedom from oppression around the world.
Sorry, but the way I see it, it's education. For instance, you say that as a homo and a sinner, I'm no authority on religion. Not true. Many "Christians" would think that, however, I'm a gay Christian. Have gone to Church my whole life. Very active in the Church, and even went to an INCREDIBLY strict private Christian college. I don't see the two as being mutually exclusive.

For those who feel it's a choice, unless someone shows them the error of their ways, they will always feel that way. It doesn't take much to teach people that it's not. Granted, I'm not going to make everyone realize, but I will do what I can to educate people.

      Somewhat on topic (rant ahead):

I just found out my cousin un-friended me on FB. She moved to Texas a few years back, and last year got really involved in church and devoting her life to the lord (her words). She even sent everyone a huge letter around Christmas stating how fortunate she was to know God and how he's changed her life. In spite of my own feelings about religion, I was happy for her. It's just sad to me what some religious groups preach, and that someone would choose to cut out family members because of something as simple as sexuality. Makes me want to hurl.

As much as it totally sucks..... it's HER loss.

and this is proof that religon is just stupid. how can you "unfriend" a family member you've loved and been with just because you find out they are gay?!?!?! I mean really!?!?!?

sadly, she's lost and will never get to know you or anyone you have in your life.

Sorry to hear that. Her loss, I know it sounds cliche but it's true. Her love at this point is conditional, something she will one day see. I know for a fact. My own brother and sister in-law were like this after my partner and I visited them for the first time. Within the first 15 minutes of us arriving at their place my sis in-law satme down and gave me the whole "we love you" but... speach. You can do this while you are here, you cant sleep in the same room etc.

We cut our trip short by a week and stayed two days just to see my mother. They would not even give us a ride to the airport! Anyoo...told them when your love stops being conditional give me a call. Did not speak to my brother for a year but one day I guess they had a momment to reflect and called to appologize for acting the way they did.

Yeah, a little cheap shot about how it's clear that she's really internalized the message of unconditional love and compassion would be called for in this case.

Much like you can have sassy gay friends, you'll be our "Straight-laced straight friend." If we get too queeny or b!thcy, you can, I don't know, give us a noogie or a purple nurple (or whatever you straight guys homo-erotically do to one another) to straighten us out. Think: the opposite of Carson Kressly from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."

      Turbio,

your book and packet is in the mail. It's purple, since ours are pink, and Lord knows we don't want you getting the two mixed up at the annual meetings. You do know that as a honorary gay, you will automaticlly know ALL gays, since all straights think we all know each other. Is there a secret handshake that I missed?

      Your book will include:
      1) How to dress more fab
      2) How to be a better wingman
      3) Cooking
      4) Fine dining 101
      5) Gay shopping etiquette

      it WON'T INCLUDE
      gay sex tech
      how to kiss a dude
      lubes and lotions
      sex toys

BUT you do get to motorboats all the t!tties you want, and stare at asses all you want, while saying "It's ok, I'm with my gay friend."

      AM I MISSING ANYTHING GUYS?

Within the first 15 minutes of us arriving at their place my sis in-law satme down and gave me the whole "we love you" but... speach. You can do this while you are here, you cant sleep in the same room etc.

We cut our trip short by a week and stayed two days just to see my mother. They would not even give us a ride to the airport! Anyoo...told them when your love stops being conditional give me a call. Did not speak to my brother for a year but one day I guess they had a momment to reflect and called to appologize for acting the way they did.
Wow religion is so screwed up it amazes me. To go out your way to delete someone on fb bc of their orientation is the most retarded thing I ever heard of in my life. Especially when it's a family member . Well like it was said already, oh well her loss.
