Thread: Calling NorCal .:R Owners, Time to Rep!

  1. 07-16-2011 11:38 PM #141
Thanks for the pics, Aaron. Really nice day for a GTG

Thanks to the organizers! Nice to see some familiar faces and meet some of the newer R32 owners, too.

Amazing turnout everyone. We started with 15 .:R's then later joined by Scott running 30 mins behind the pack in his UG MK5 R!

Was looking gloomy with overcast on way to GTG spot but the road gods opened up the skies to the NorCal R's.

Was my first time out on Mines rd and it was beyond what I expected. Windows rolled down all the way, radio off, nothing but .:Rumble in the air. Thanks Aaron for leading the pack and giving us all words of caution. Pit stop at Mt Hamilton observatory was awesome. Roads coming out of the observatory could be better but I wish I had a copilot snapping picks of our train snaking down those hairpins, what a site to see!

We look forward to the next GTG, toss up some ideas to Matt and I. We blurted out earlier gokarting/vag-com day, trackday at t-hill or infineon, another drive. Lets keep this going!

Props to all that drove long distances to make this happen. See you all at the next one! To be continued.....

Grouping up at base of Mines Road, Matt was sweep vehicle, good job looking out for the pack.

Looking down from Mt. Hamilton Observatory overlooking San Jose.

seeing as i'll be over there shortly, can any of you guys recommend a good shop to do a suspension install? unless anyone is around monterey area and is willing to give a hand, i'll be looking to do an install within the next few months.

    thanks

i think all the traveling with the roof rack loaded and the wheelchair in the back has been taking a toll on the OEM suspension, sounds to me like i'm scraping something on those nice dips. as soon as everythings on and good to go, wife and i are looking forward to joining in the cruises

Hi Mat, you mentioned that I should "subscribe" to this post so that it appears on the Mark V forum, how do I do that? I'm going to make a run next weekend from Mountain View Mini up 17 to Bear Creek to 9 and try to pop out at Pine Crest on Hwy 1. I'll then head north to Gazos Creek Road in Pescadero, down Cloverdale Road to Pescadero Road east. It will be a toss up wether I go up Alpine Road, lots of bikes on the week end, or go Hwy 84 east to Hwy 35. I'll head south on Hwy 35 to Old Page mill road east to 280 south to 85 and then north on El Camino and back to starting point. If you haven't been on Old Page Mill Road well lets say it's mind altering.

It was cool to meet up with new people with the same luv for these cars. Big ups to Todd and Matt for making this event happen!

Thanks to Aaron for leading the pack. You kinda freak'd us out with those stories of people going off the cliff but we all made it out safely!

Drew, thanks for taking some great shots!

We definitely need to do this again. Just a thought maybe we can do this quarterly so we have something to look forward to each time. Fastivus is great but we don't but we don't do enough .:R events in the year.

  13. 07-18-2011 12:11 AM #153
GREAT TURN OUT!! Those of you who signed up but ended up not coming are missing out! Good times and I had a blast running twisties with my fellow .:R owners

Another BIG thanks going out to Matt and Todd Your time and effort in organizing the GTG are appreciated

Drew – Glad to hear that you made it home safe rolling with the donut. Rolling on that thing doesn’t inspire much confidence (don’t ask me how I know ) let alone traveling down the hill!

Anyway, here is my photo contribution

Sorry we missed you Ryan, I'll be certain we notify you for the next one.

For the others that were not able to attend, no worries, this is only the beginning. Matt and I will coordinate more GTG's/Drives very soon. After seeing the turnout last Saturday, we would of been happy with 5-7 R's but 16 showed. This is a very good sign that the NorCal .:R32 scene is alive.

i need new coils. My vmaxx coils are just to soft, and the rear setup sucks.

Trying to figure out which set to buy.

As of right now i am thinking about FK Silverline / Koni / PSS / H&R

i dont wan't it to be bone jarring, but i do want it to feel firm. Any of you guys can help me out and give me some insight?

    Thanks guys

What about the KW v3's? If cost is an issue the HPA SHS kit with the launch kit rear (same as the V3) is a good compromise. Both have great ride, adjustment, and can handle both street and track.

If you're sticking to that list, go with the Koni's. I've had mine for 5 years . If you want to deviate from that list and are open to other options, I would have to agree with Bruce on the KW3's.

If you recommend koni, then is it the best of both worlds to get the fk silverlines due to the fact that they use the same koni shocks, while getting good adjust ability with ride height with the FK series?

I haven't heard much about the HPA SHS kit, so unsure bout adding that to the list unless someone can chime in how how they are. All i have read about them is that they are 0-30mm of adjustable height, which kinda sucks if your rolling on 17's

I'm taking off the PSS off my list also because if I'm spending the money again, then i want something that can be tuned.

So as of right now id say
    1.FK silverline X +
    2.Koni
    3. h&r streets.

Wow, this is what I get for going a few months without logging into Vortex! I love the idea of a monthly or quarterly GTG for the NorCal R32 community. I definitely plan on making the next one
