I just bought her today.
1979 1.5L 71hp
4 door red on red
91k orig miles!
super clean on the inside, the exterior needs a good buffing.. runs like a champ, did the 2+ hour drive home like it was nothing. meanwhile, i started making a list of things i need to fix...
one headlight out
turn signals not working
fan knob sticks in 'full blast' position
radio needs to go back to stock
side mirrors falling off a little
shift boot is ripped in two..
could use a shifter rebushing
thats all i've found for now!
I'll have more pictures tomorrow once i go out and clean her up.![]()

I remember seeing that CL ad seems like at least six or seven months ago & was wondering when someone would scoop it up. Looks real nice. Are those hoodpins though? Interior pics please...I'm always up for some lipstick red "porn".

Saw this car when it first popped up. Good luck, hope there's not a bunch of problems
#5
made some progress on first day of ownership.. started off with a bath...
then drove up the canyon for a quick photo shoot
Under the ugly covers hid some beautifully clean seats!
thats right, 92k orig miles
time to take it back to stock....
took out some mounting unit for satellite radio, found an ashtray in the hatch...
it seems that i'm missing a piece.
got the orig. radio back in, not hooked up yet, the wires were all spliced to feed the aftermarket head unit.
ran into this later on,
More to come, lots of work to be done.

The hatch strut was not working, and kept falling down on me while i was digging through my toolbox..
so i replaced the strut, happy day
the door handle seals were a bit worn, so i started replacing them, got one side of the car done..

That canyon drive looks like Big Thompson Canyon. Are you in FoCo? I moved out of Loveland 2 years ago and know that area like the back of my hand!
Nice Rabbit! Mine is actually still in Northern Colorado in a storage unit. I should be rescuing it within the next 4-5 months.

stupid jealous of that interior.
i'm thinking about breaking the red up with some tan leather... maybe not though, possibly some mk1 GTI red seats? (i'm not too stoked on non-bolstered seats)

No real updates to speak of, besides the road trip.
did almost 3500 miles over 10 days or so, and the car did awesome. didn't lose a drop of oil or coolant. ran out of gas once, but it was our fault..
from boulder, took 90 to seattle, took a trip to portland, and came back through yellowstone. a lot of driving.
took a couple of pics along the way
stopped at a junkyard in spokane and picked up a pair of smoked tails, a washer fluid res., oem black drivers mirror. pics to come

no real updates, took her up to Rock Mountain Natl Park yesterday, climbed longs peak. saw this church on the way home, took a shot.
Just taking trips all over the place, having so much fun, running so good!
