I'm pretty sure this has happened to at least a couple MkV owners.
You should also check with the MkIV R owners because I think it's happening to them as well.

Hey guys, am I the only one having issues with my VF motor mount and trans bushings? I installed all 3 mounts about 2 years ago and it seems I need to replace the top motor mount and trans mount bushings atleast once a year and the dog bone mount bushings almost every oil change. I have spent more money on bushings then the mounts themself are worth..
Am I the only one?or
These bushings have under 1000 miles on them I just changed them before the car went to CTS turbo.

I bought a used VF dogbone mount a year ago; it was 1 year old when i bought it and the bushings were shot so I had to replace them all.
I haven't pulled it to check yet; but considering how bad my car is shaking lately I 'm pretty sure the same bushings are shot again; you are making me want to go check it in the parking lot here...![]()

I am really not happy. I am thinking of taking all 3 mounts out because I have brand new bushings for the 2 upper mounts in my tool box and selling all 3 mounts in the Classifieds but the dog bone mount will still need new bushings from VF. I am thinking of trying another brand bushing so I can try a different stiffness bushing.
#5
Does this also happen to the stock mounts?
Is there an alternative that will last?![]()
#6
This does not happen with stock mounts.
I Just ordered a BSH dog bone mount so if all goes well with that over the first 1000 miles I will be ordering the upper 2 also and then stick my set of VF's for sale.
#7
Let us know? If you don't have the same issues with the BSH mounts I'll probably order all 3 myself.
#8
I use the upper left and right mounts from VF in my car and stock lower mount with HPA Core Interlock. Great combo and no issues to date.
#9
I bought a VW motorsports insert for the subframe that I never used and I thought about going back to the stock dog bone but I don't like how soft the bushing is where this VF bushing fails on the stock mount. I wonder if someone will be willing to make us just a bushing for the stock mount that we can press out and press a new one in. I took the stock bushing out and it came out rather easy with a press so it would prob be a very easy swap even with a much stiffer bushing.

This happened to my MKIV gti. And trying to find replacement bushings from them is a mission. You need to fill out a form and email it to them or fax them I forget. So i just ended up buying a used one in the classifieds.

Powerdubs in the Mk4 R32 forums raves about the DLI mounts. Crazy expensive but everyone who has them seems to absolutely love them.
We are talking $550 for the 2 mounts.

The BSH are 88durometer which is way better than the 70duromter from VF. Keep in mind the VF stuff is good, most people complain about stiff mounts so it's a good compromise.
Also, I think the BSH replacement inserts will work with the VF mounts.
I have all 3 VF and my lower insert took a crap, so I got BFI's insert replacement which is 90 durometer. They have have stages 1-3 for the right and left motor mounts that might be of an interest to you.

Without reading the thread, every thread I've ever read regarding VF mounts has mentions of their bushings failing very quickly.
Yeah, I'd probably steer clear. BSH seems like a better product but I'm sure there is someone who may disagree.

I'm in the same boat. I spoke to VF about this and they said out of all the cars that use these mounts we have the largest engines and they don't plan on reengineering special ones for us.
When they are new they are great. I'll just keep putting new bushings in. Tuesdays still the best mounts for our cars.![]()

I have replaced the dog bone mount twice the right motor mount once
After replacing the dog bone twice I installed the original dob bone with the hpa puck
Using this combination is actually stiffer than the vf
Vf dog bone does not last long at all with the weight of our motor it can't handle the torque
Curious to see your thoughts on the bsh

^^^ I'm running the same. No issues.
I went through 3 sets of the VF dogbone bushings before i went back to stock. VF's customer service sucks. They're shipping is ridiculous. If you're looking for replacement bushings go through a distributor of theirs so you don't get raped on shipping.

I will have my BSH lower dog bone on thursday, I feel confident in my talking to phil that his will not have this same issue. I will let you all know how it works out and report back.

Thanks, I didn't drive the car with it yet as I started swapping out the 550 injectors with 870's last night and soldering on the new injector clips so I can hurry up and get my retune. You can physically feel the material difference in the bushings between VF and BSH. I am confident this is the answer I have been looking for.

Let's us know after some hard miles how things are lasting in the long term. I'm trying to setup the car for Turbo once it's paid off and am addressing all the weak links (motor mounts, cooling water/oil, etc.) at this time.

anybody ever score the VW motorsoprt mounts or whatever those things were from a while back.
I dropped the ball with the emails across the pond.

I have one, didn't like what I saw when it got to me. It is sitting on the work bench at forcefed engineering right now I am having them cut me a 100% solid one on the cnc.
I could flex the bushing material in it by hand.

in the above picture, does anyone know if it is possible remove the entire subframe (the big piece of metal where the dog bone mounts to)? I have a feeling that the threaded mount (the top one) that bolt screws into is shot. or does anyone have any ideas on how to check it?
thanks.

Subframe comes out with about a dozen bolts.

I pulled mine out today and it's not difficult except that two of the bolts are TTY bolts that should not (and in my case could not) be reused. TTY bolts are designed to be torqued down (81ft-lbs in this case) and then turned an additional quarter turn to stretch them. The stretching puts them under tension but also makes them unusable a second time (one of mine snapped off).
I would advise replacing the two TTY bolts with the heavier bolts recommended in the "knocking sound" fix elsewhere on the Vortex. The new bolts are really hefty and will snug down nicely at 81ft-lbs. No need to add the quarter turn as they're not stretch bolts.
The other thing to watch out for is that the bolt threads are clean and in good condition before reinserting them - we had one bolt bung up the threads and had to run a tap to clean things up before it would go back in smoothly.
