lol... the thing about the aluminum is the welding...

aluminum is WAY cheaper, lighter and it dissipates heat easier... but it is way harder to weld.

so i dont know what to choose... right now i'm looking for a place that does mandrel bending locally.

Love what I'm seeing. I left for a few weeks while stuff got busy, then I come back and see all this.

Already can't wait for SoWo next year to see it all!

well, a little update on what i have been doing..

i have already done a LOT of miles since the LSD install... ~2000 miles...

on monday i did the scheduled oil change... i need to keep my MPGs UP!

on friday (yesterday) i did a transmission fluid change. Its a standard procedure after the LSD install, so that any metal that gets loosed over the first 1000-2000 miles are flushed out.

Motul synthetic as recomended by wavetrac

today i drove 30 miles with the new fluid... WOW... it feels so much better.

    might do some videos later...

i tried... i tried to launch 8 different times.
failure isnt a proper way to describe it... lol.

i tried 2k, 3k, 3500 and 4k RPMS and if i didnt floor it too much i was pushing it too little.

anyways, torque measured a 0-60 in ~7 secs and a 1/4 in 18 secs.. lol.

the good thing: i was spinning BOTH front tires.

FYI, Saw you were looking into 17 inch lightweight wheels. I have 17x8 and 17x9 RPF1s and they are 15.5 and 15.9 lbs respectively. FN01-RCs are also close to same weight. That is if you like the way they look.

I think that by the end of the month I'll buy the following:
    -intercooler
    -coolant bottle delete
-oil lines, fittings and gaskets for turbo.

The only remaining things for the turbo will be the silicone couplers, injectors and pipes.

lol, i just have to wait till the end of the month to see how the bank ends up.

deleting the bottle should be ~60.. and it will look cleaner. The mod is COMPLETELY reversible... and i'll just keep a water bottle on the trunk.

how are you going to route the wastegate?
    open dump or recirculate?

I was thinking about that earlier. I'll leave it open for a couple weeks top.

I mean, ill do the basic piping as simple as possible... So it will be open dump.

Then when the whole thing Os done, and the car is running with the turbo, ill go to The exhaust shop and have them recirculate it.

It actually isn't very bad at all. I'll show pics once I mount it up on the car, in a about a month.

I will mount it and the fmic, and ill take a bunch of pics. From the mounting i will measure for the distances of the oil feed and drain lines.

The downpipe will be fairly easy.. Way easier than the one on the c2 mani which requires crazy bends. Its sort of a 90 degree angle from the turbo and then im there on the "hole"

Like i said, i might keave the wastegate with a short pipe to atmosphere, and then weld it to circulation.

Most of the pipes will be done by next month's pay check... And the rest of the turbo soon aftwr that.

    DIY turbo kit.

The way i look at it, its a total of $2898 and then you have to add the pipes and the software (900 for new customers)

the way i think of it as of now: budget 1k for pipes (should have a decent ammount left), and then the total for the whole kit would have been: $4800 or 3900 without software. Not bad seeing the current options, and considering that all is being bought new.

For my kit, specifically since i have gotten some good prices here and there, the total cost has been $2548, i'm looking at a total kit cost of: $4450 with software and assuming 1k in pipes.

will update once i do them... ~2 months from today

    -------------
before i do the turbo pipes, i need to move some wires... so more relocation soon.

just for fun i might delete the coolant bottle.

i THOUGHT i was 7 weeks away from being turbo-ed... it will be a little longer... i forgot to account for the price of software!

i think its going to get pushed a bit. hoping to have it done by mid december (post finals) or early january.

current pre-turbo plans: remove coolant bottle, relocate some wires, relocate fuel line and remove the SAI pump.

and some time (before sowo '14) i'll do my beloved exhaust..! and i'll remove the spare tire...

No one ever said that the project had to be done in a matter of months. i think of it as a lifetime project.

    just some turbo pics...

    turbo oil feed

on the turbine, "hot side", here is where the downpipe will connect to.

Compressor, "cold side". The big thing on the middle is where the intake goes/is.

signal for wastegate, it can be capped if un used

compressor out. Here is where the charge piping begins.

    oil return
