Start with some quality coilovers, hpa is a good supplier in the Vancouver area. Then some wheels (can't go wrong with bbs!). Then if you're into going fast you're gonna want to look into a vr6 or 1.8t motor swap.
I'm just out here visiting or I'd recommend some good shops but I don't know the area.

Welcome, he has some ideas but thats the "scene" thats on right now. Depends what look you want. I work a little bit on my friends Mark III so I might be able to help, just PM me. I'd go to the mark III fourm, you can get the look you want.

Personaly if I were you I would go thru the car with a fine toth comb and find any and all th elilttle things that might be wearing down and have them replaced or brought up to snuff. Then I would look at some Ecode headlamps. Im my opinion th eonly thing that sucks on the MKIII is the Golf oem headlamps. Then I would look at a good set of coilovers. Now a days I would go with a set of ST (Suspension Techniques). These are actually KW V1's only they are rebranded under their sister company ST. By far the very best bang for buck. Otherwise go with the KW or H&R... I find that eitherone is a personal preferance as to preformance and comfort. But like I said when you are getting the KW for much less in the ST brand I dont really know why people purchase the KW or H&R....

After that I would look at gettis a killer set of wheels... Someting that is era correct or something OEM+. BBS as stated above is rare that it goes wrong on a VW... There are a few that just dont work but you'll know them when you see them. I love the BORBET wheels on the MKIII. Also dont go tooo big... I would try and stay to a 16" or 17" at most.

Sorry.... Backing up a bit once you have all the little mechanical things taken care of Give Terrance at Glossworks a shout and have him do a complete detail of your ride. I PROMISE you it will literaly look and feel like new. Seriously I have NEVER known any detailer to be able to work magic like him.

ONce those things are done you can look at preformance if thats your cup of tea... If you choose to keep the engine just get a Magnaflow SS cat back system and have a Magnaflow Cat added as well and but in a Cold air intake. I like K&N but the oil has been know to screw up the MAF sensors so if you are worried about that then go dry with INGEN.

Upon that I would do the little things like go badgeless... A euro textrued bumpers and flair kit just makes the MKIII's sexy as hell... Oh and forsure replace teh tail lights with crystal smoked tails.... will make a big improvement. Same with the side indicators.

Once all that is finnished I would focus on the interior... It try and replace the seats with a MKIV set of GTI/GLI Recars front and rear.... Or go for a MKIII GLX Leather interior.... If you replace the steering wheel the MKIV GIT wheel is a great match on that interior...

Most of all just enjoy the car.... I miss my MKIII's... Every one was just fantastic.... Everytime I sold one I wanted another within a day.... Im now running a A6 Avant and a Eurovan for the family but someday Ill have another one.

As far as shops go in VAn area I highly recomend Synergy Auto Group. They are in Richmond and Chris is just an awesome guy. HONEST and friendly. He will give it to you straight no BS. He does great work and stands behind it!

Other wise I have used a few nothing bad but nothing great... For tires go to NTW (NAtional Tire Wholesale) on River road in delta.... Hands down the best place and prices anywhere....

If you ever want to upgrade your brakes look for a used Brembo set up off craigs list.... For Disc contact ADAM's ROTORS just google him. Awesome stuff and great prices. Or go Brembo or Stop Tech.

I'm looking to get and install some H&R sport springs for my mk6 Jetta sportline in the coming weeks.

I've been on the hunt for shops in the past month and have come across several shops in Vancouver that seemed pretty good and who specialize in VW/Audi.
Still choosing which one to go to:
Blitzkrieg, RPI, Shift Autosport, PG Performance and CTS Turbo.
Checked out The Speed Syndicate too.
I might have to check out Synergy as well then.

Hello Left Coasters
I'm looking for a key cutter for a newly bladed key fob - any tips appreciated. The STEALERSHIP wanted over $300 for the cut key and programming = SCAM
Bought the fob with blank blade on EBay for $40, now just need a cutter as the programming is a snap.
FYI: you must match up the key # exactly - it's in fine print on the fob under the key bed.

Unfortunately i sold my golf when i got back and picked up something a lil bit more upscale...a 1999 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro. Its a 1.9 TDI 130pd 4motion. Its the only 4motion passat wagon in ireland as they were never on sale there. I had to import it from the UK. I love it to bits!

So.... I just did my coilovers!
I am loving the ride, it's nice and stiff.. very similar to stock suspension.
Roughly a little over 3" drop all around.

Hi guys,

Thought I would let this note. I found a good VW Jetta mechanic in the Vancouver area. It's Jakob's Auto Repair, in North Van, 604-987-5112. Just google it.

There lead VW mechanic has wrecked VW's for about 10 years and has a tonne of experience on them. It's actually a Porche repair shop, but they do VW / Jetta's as well. I came with a strange electrical problem, he fixed it, but completely eyeballed that my fanbelt/pully system as I had problems tensioning it, was using completely the wrong parts, from a different year'ed Jetta. He collected a bunch of parts in his shop, ordered in some cheap bolts and set me up perfectly. Anyways, he has a tonne of experience and does all my "hard" Jetta repairs. Cost is $100/hr, but that is no different compared to any other professional shop, as they are fast. They were originally recommend to me by another repair shop that didn't want to play with my Jetta electrical problem.

Hard to find good Jetta shops.
