I could pull a Chad and walk or ride my bike to this GTG.
Or pull a Dave and fall asleep on the couch.

I will be out there tonight.. glad I saw this post just a minute ago. Been bored as hell today!

EDIT:: plus it will give me a chance to show off my new toy since my Bug decided that she only needs 3 pistons instead of 4. She's a damn overachiever.

It was a good time, but the boy-racer stuff needs to stop . The police presence as I was leaving is attention we don't want or need, plus I don't want to wear out our welcome at In n Out, an otherwise nice place to frequent . Cortaro there usually has a pretty strong MPD presence.

this is why I believe that only the Starbucks meet is the continuously ongoing meet for euro's in Tucson. generally a bit more mature crowd that can handle not getting stupid. plus who wants to drive to Cortaro and I-10 for a meet on Sunday night

When some of us live 5-10 minutes from there it's not so bad. Now who in the world would want to drive to any of the GTGs on the east side?

if Grant and Swan is the eastside than Tucson instantly shrunk overnight. maybe if there were a GTG at I-10 and Kolb it might be an equal comparison

Now imagine living 2nd to last exit as your leaving tucson and about 6 miles off the freeway.... and driving to grant and swan... its darn near 45 minutes... hence why I don't show up often...

Anyways, we will not condone, or be apart of the shinanigans that took place this past Sunday. If it happens again, I will ask you to leave.

It was a reference to how a number of air-cooled folks have GTGs at points east of Grant/Swan, which I do consider mid-town.

I tried getting the aircooled meets to take place @ Alvernon and Broadway which is almost dead center Tucson. We still meet there on Saturdays but cruise to a place to eat afterwards.

exactly why we regulate at the Grant/Swan GTG.
that stuff doesnt happen with us.
This stuff does happen with clubs as clubs typically attract a younger, something to prove crowd.

A Mkv and a S4 left the gtg and were driving at speeds in excess of the posted limit.

We're trying to set a good name for car clubs with the law enforcement. Especially european cars. we don't meet to do that.

    incorrect.
i have personally asked people to not come back to the GTG on multiple occasions.
    They havent come back.

as for other clubs, there are almost always douches trying to prove something and doing burnouts or bumpin loud stereos.
that crap is lame and follows clubs. Be careful not to get caught up in that.

It follows car groups in general.. just depends on the group and how they respond...

maybe I missed something but so far we have had 2 meets and in those 2 meets there has been NO burnouts, NO stereo bumping, NO s*** talking, no one has been disruptive or disrespectful. There has been NO police coming and questioning us or watching us, In & Out hasn't come out to question us or kick us out. There has been no littering.

What I saw was a pretty chill gtg of moderate size and everyone seemed to be getting along and having a decent time.

There was 2 people who left to race but that happened away from the gtg. Miles away. Obviously we can't be responsible for what people do on their own time away from the gtg.

Perhaps the stuff listed above does follow some clubs but it doesn't mean it will follow ours. Until it does everything is just speculation.

Id like to keep our thread about what our gtg IS and not about what it isn't.

    Thanks

I dont know Dave to lie about things so Im guess you missed the boy racer stuff somehow. Again, im not saying not to do the meet, im just cautioning in what I have personally dealt with here in tucson, in Vegas and in NY.
Ive been into cars and going to GTGs since most of you were sitting home watching spongebob in your underoos. . I know how this all goes and you need to set some pretty strict rules to keep the idiots from ruining what could be a very fun event.

I respect where you are coming from. And thank you for your insight. As far as the boy racer stuff goes. It was not much different than a benz going for a "quick test drive" and rides being given in the quicker cars at the starbucks... if they hadn't said anything... we wouldn't have been the wiser.... no matter the maturity of the group, we all have quick cars. And love driving them... that is what we are, that is what we believe, that is our passion.

I'm not saying Dave lied because a race DID happen but it happened away from our gtg by 2 people that were friends and work together. They met up at the gtg but it would have happened even if the gtg had not taken place so the blame can't be on the gtg. If it wasn't for them returning and talking about it no one would have even known it happened.

The gtg didn't attract any police (that I saw and I was one of the last to leave). There were no burnouts and no shenanigans in the vincinity of the gtg.

Jeremy, I know you have been around for awhile and seen your fair share of failed gtg's, clubs and douchbagery. I appreciate your help and giving up tips to keep problems to a minimum.

I do think its a little early to say the gtg is full of kids with something to prove when actually it was pretty quiet and laid back. The main members of the club all went to Wuste and on the return trip I remember us all doing 65 in a 75 (the entire way) letting people pass US while we all stayed a group and had fun. Thats a big difference than a bunch of stereo bumping, disrespectful, street racing kids.

I won't be able to go unfortunately. Too short notice.

We should have another MK3 out this Sun - Cody got his car back up and running now to get Kenny's Mk2 going again.

I look forward to coming out on Sunday with my MkV R32. I have been to the Grant and Swan GTG a few times and had a good time with a good group of people. Look forward to meeting a new group and checking out some cars.

Dave was just over here and I asked him about the incident. He said the green S4 and another car hauled ass out of the parking lot and down cortaro to the highway.

Chirping an all wheel drive car leaving a crowded area = grounds for a pistol whipping. And while local law enforcement may not have been there or been called, who knows how many people saw it or heard it.

It's over and done with now, but as an "old timer" who can recall being shoed away by police from our Speedway/Craycroft GTG spot (pre-Starbucks) when we were paying customers, eating in the restaurant because of people driving import cars of other nationalities + sport bikes I'm not a fan of a couple ruining it for the many. So those of you who know these two, tell them to stop, if they haven't heard it loud and clear already.

To the rest of the GTG and people there, it was a pretty relaxing way to spend a Sunday evening. I think I'll be out this Sunday sporting some new kicks.

I really don't understand the problem? I am the "other car" that was involved in your so-called incident. No tires were smoked leaving the parking lot, no loud stereos, just two cars with exhausts that aren't quiet. I get the impression you are talking down about racing which doesn't really make sense to me either. Aren't you the one with a large front mount? What's the point of go fast parts if you don't use them. Again, there was no disrespecting anyone when we left the parking lot. We drove the posted speed limit all the way down the frontage road until Orange Grove, where we made sure there were no cops or other cars/people. I recently added software and wanted to see what the car was capable of.

Of all the people that were at this gtg, only 1 person seems to have a problem with what took place b/c, quite frankly, the only reason anyone is talking about our race is b/c we talked about it when we got back. From what I remember, the loudest, most obnoxious car there was that civic that kept driving by and doing mini burnouts. Don't group me with him for one second.

If anyone had an issue with what I did, no one seemed to make it known at the time. I wouldn't have minded you coming up to me that night and making your concerns known. But to wait until you're on the internet makes no sense. The point of this entire thread was to promote a new gtg spot for some people on the NW side of Tucson and find some other car enthusiasts. You're making it sound like the night was a complete loss. I meant no disrespect to anyone and have never been that person that ruins it for everyone. But we were having a little fun, and didn't cause any problems. No cops, no upset In&Out employees or customers, no smoking tires...
